A 61-year-old man fell into out-of hospital cardiopulmonary arrest due to rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm, and was resuscitated onsite. On arrival at the emergency room, a fusiform type abdominal aortic aneurysm and massive hematoma in the retro-peritoneal space were detected by ultrasonography. Quickly, an aortic occlusion balloon catheter was placed at the proximal site of abdominal aorta through the left brachial artery, and then graft replacement of the aneurysm was carried out. The inferior mesenteric artery was occluded, and was not reconstructed. Five hours after the operation, left hemi-colectomy was carried out for ischemic necrosis of the descending to sigmoid colon. Although he was complicated by multiple organ failure; renal failure, liver dysfunction, severe infection, and brain infarction, he survived without a fatal disability. A rare case with ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm who fell into cardiopulmonary arrest outside the hospital but survived after bowel necrosis and multiple organ failure is reported.

Cordyceps militaris has been known to produce an anticancer agent, cordycepin. Investigation on optimum culture condition for C. militaris had been performed. In the research program for discovering a novel function in the culture of C. militaris, the culture media was applied to a proliferation assays using various cell lines. The media showed significant anti-proliferative activities against al cell lines, especially to human leukemia cell line HL-60. The activity-guided purification of active ingredient was performed to obtain uracil. To the best of our knowledge, uracil has not been reported to possess anti-proliferative activity. However, the uracil obtained from the culture media was subjected to ICP-MS analysis to reveal that sodium, potassium and magnesium were found to co-exist with uracil, which might show anti-proliferative activity. Further study on the mechanism of the expression of the activity is now underway.

Case reports are studies that document the detailed progression of a single case, representing the most accessible research style for clinicians. Even a single case can provide insights that may hint at directions for future research and clinical practice, and enhancing the quality of case reports can strengthen the scientific foundation of acupuncture. Therefore, it is advisable for acupuncturists to actively pursue case reporting based on their daily clinical experiences. However, to make case reports meaningful, they must be correctly "evaluated." Evaluation in acupuncture practice is broadly divided into assessment of the condition and the outcomes of treatment. The assessment of the condition involves understanding the patient's current state through consultation and physical examination, while outcome evaluation assesses changes in the patient following treatment. Here, "evaluation" refers to the latter-observing changes in patient outcomes. We discussed how patient outcomes are assessed in daily practice, how these assessments are utilized, and how they can lead to presentations at academic conferences, aiming to help with those who are one step away from making such conference presentations.
