Cancer Research and Clinic 2012;24(8):521-523
Objective To discuss the diagnosis value of DNA imaging cytometry (DNA-ICM) analysis in fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC).Methods Conventional cytopathology and DNA-ICM were used to detect 95 fine needle aspiration patients with breast masses. The results were analyzed according to the histopathological diagnosis. Results There was not significant difference between conventional cytopathology and DNA-ICM [88.4 %(84/95) vs.94.7 %(90/95)] (x2 =2.457,P =0.117).Two false positive cases had been found in conventional cytopathologic diagnosis, but not in DNA-ICM.There was a positive correlation between the nucleus area and its DNA content (r =0.744,P =0.000).By DNA-ICM,the detectable rate of abnormal DNA content in the infiltrating ductal carcinoma was higher than that in the infiltrating lobular carcinoma [90.3 %(65/72) vs.50.0 %(4/8)] (P =0.011).Conclusion The detection of DNA-ICM can reduce the false positive rate of FNAC,but it has limitations in diploid tumors.

BACKGROUND: Biomechanical mechanisms are complex, and previous studiers focus on the stress conduction in the carpus. However, the stress distribution and characteristics of trabecula in the carpus are rarely reported.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the stress distribution and deformation characteristics of the normal lunate through a two-dimensional sagittal finite element model.METHODS: A normal cadaveric lunate sample was scanned with Micro-CT and the central sagittal image was chosen for further finite element analysis (FEA). The chosen image was processed and imported into the finite element analysis software (Ansys 14.0). A two-dimensional sagittal finite element model of the lunate bone was established. Axial pressure was applied to the model with the wrist held in different positions, and nine regions of interests (ROIs) were identified, for which stress and displacement nephograms were created. These included the first principal stress (S1, the maximum stress in a principal plane), the third principal stress (S3, the minimal stress in a principal plane), shear stress (SXY, the component of stress coplanar with a material cross section), von Mises stress (SEQV, yielding begins when the elastic energy of distortion reaches a critical value)and displacement of each ROI (UY, displacement on the vertical plane of the lunate) which were calculated and compared.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) The stresses on ROIs located in the proximal and volar cortices of the lunate bone were much higher than those in the distal and dorsal cortices. At the proximal lunate, S1 was less than S3; however at the distal lunate, S1 was greater than S3. The ROIs of the distal and proximal ends of the lunate bone received much higher stress than the ROIs of the middle part. As for axial trabecular displacement, both distal and proximal ROIs were compressed by axial pressure. However, the dorsal and the volar parts of the proximal lunate moved in different directions at different wrist postures. Besides, the stress values and magnitudes of displacement were elevated in wrist flexion and extension compared to neutral position.Furthermore, the stress concentration zones (the proximal volar ROI, the proximal dorsal ROI, the distal volar ROI, and the distal dorsal ROI) had different directions of shear stress and displacement in different wrist postures. (2) These results suggest that when stress is loaded on a normal lunate model, four stress concentration zones, the proximal volar ROI, the proximal dorsal ROI, the distal volar ROI, and the distal dorsal ROI are found. The wrist postures can significantly affect the value and distribution of axial stress on the sagittal lunate.

Objective: To compare the early and long-term outcomes between on-pump and off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in elder female patients.
Methods: A total of 763 female patients elder than 65 years of age received isolated CABG in our hospital from 1999-01 to 2008-12 were retrospectively studied. The patients were divided into 2 groups according to operational method: On-pump group,n=331 and Off-pump group,n=432. The mortality at 30 days post-operation, in-hospital clinical indexes and long term mortality with MACCE as all cause death, myocardial infarction (MI), stroke and repeated revascularization were compared between 2 groups.
Results: Compared with On-pump group, the patients in Off-pump group had the elder age (P<0.01), with the higher rate of cerebral vascular accident (P=0.023); less family history of coronary artery disease (P=0.012), angina (P<0.001) and emergent operation (P=0.015), less venous distal anastomoses (P<0.001) ; while higher incomplete revascularization (P<0.001). Logistic regression model comparison indicated that Off-pump group had the lower mortality at 30 days post-operation (P=0.038), less application of blood products (P<0.001), lower rate of >24h mechanical ventilation (P<0.001), less renal failure (P=0.022), pulmonary complications (P<0.001) and re-exploration for bleeding (P=0.021). The morbidity of all post-operative complications were similar between 2 groups (P=0.110). Cox regression model comparison showed that long-term all cause mortality (P=0.477) and occurrence of MACCE (P=0.265) were similar between the two groups.
Conclusion: Off-pump CABG would reduce the mortality at 30 days post-operation, have less application of blood products, shorter post-operative mechanical ventilation, less early post-operative renal failure, pulmonary complications and re-exploration for bleeding. While it could not reduce the long-term mortality and MACCE occurrence.

Objective To investigate the detection mode for those unpaid blood donors screening as positive HBsAg+ and/or positive anti-HCV could be permitted to recall again for re-detection under the regulation condition in order to determine whether or not regain their qualifications of donating blood and rejoin the blood donation again. Methods The unpaid blood donors preliminari-ly screening as positive HBsAg and/or positive anti-HCV in Shenzhen from Otcober 2007 to December 2013 and conforming to the rules for recalling to re-detection formulated by our center were analyzed and researched for conducting the feasibility discussion on the rejoin mode of unpaid blood donors. Results A total of 415 759 case-times of blood donation were conducted during 2007 ~2013.Among them,2 506 cases(0.60%)and 1 357 cases(0.33%)were screened as positive HBsAg or positive anti-HCV,respec-tively.The recall process of rejoin re-detection was initiated in 59 positive HBsAg donors and 16 positive anti-HCV donors with many times of blood donation. But only 31 positive HBsAg donors and 9 positive anti-HCV donors successfully completed the detec-tion items of re-detection process.Among them 29 positive HBsAg donor regained the qualifications of donating blood and 2 cases were shielded for the blood donation qualification due to unqualification in the following detection. All of the 9 recalled donators with positive anti-HCV regained the blood donation qualification. Conclusion Under present detection mode, the detection tech-nique of blood screening is hard to avoid the occurrence of false positive results caused by the reagents, instruments and personnel operating. In order to protect the donation qualifications of the unpaid blood donators,a set of scientific, reasonable and practical re-detection mode for rejoin of the blood donators should be established for protecting the limited blood donation resource.

PurposeTo investigate the formation of neovascularization using dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) in C6 glioma margin in rats, and to explore its utility.Materials and MethodsC6 glioma model was created in 24 SD rats. Routine and DCE-MRI was performed 4 days, 8 days, 12 days, 16 days, 20 days and 24 days after transplantation. Pathology and immunohistochemistry exams were also obtained to evaluate marginal tumor cells and neovascularization.ResultsNeovascularization was observed in C6 glioma margin within (257.658±53.663)μm range. Vessel co-option index difference was statistically significant (P<0.01). Tumor cells surrounding the co-opted vessels were strongly positive on proliferating cell nuclear antigen and matrix metallopeptidase 2 staining. Vessel co-option regression and transformation were observed on day 16 on Tenascin-C andα smooth muscle actin staining. For DCE-MRI analysis, Ktrans and Kep were higher on day 12 and 16 (P<0.05). There was significant negative correlation between co-option index and Ktrans (r=-0.9243 and-0.8347,P<0.05). Vp showed no statistically significant difference at all time points (P>0.05).Conclusion The neovascularization in tumor margin demonstrates vessel co-option. DCE-MRI parameters Ktrans and Kep are negatively correlated with co-option index, indicating that Ktrans and Kep could be a well-defined imaging-based biomarker for glioma neovascularization.
