3.Predicting graded young modulus values of Ti alloys modified by ion implantation.

There has been, and is still, concern about the high elastic modulus of Ti alloys compared to bone. Any reduction in the Young's modulus value of the implant is expected to enhance stress redistribution to the adjacent bone tissues, minimize stress shielding and eventually prolong device lifetime. Dynamic Monte Carlo simulation is used to predict the gradual reduction in Young's modulus values between the bulk of Ti alloys and the modified surface layers due to Ca ion implantation. The simulation can be used as a screening step when applying new alloys and/or coatings.

5.Giant Epidermoid Cyst of the Thigh

Epidermoid cyst is a common benign cutaneous swelling
frequently encountered in surgical practice. It usually
presents as a painless lump frequently occurring in hairbearing areas of the body particularly the scalp, scrotum, neck, shoulder and back. Giant epidermoid cysts commonly occur in hairy areas such as the scalp. We present here the case of a rare occurrence of a giant epidermoid cyst in the less hairy area of the right upper thigh mimicking a soft tissue sarcoma. Steps are highlighted for the management of this unusual cyst.
6.Feline bartonellosis associated with some clinico- pathological conditions in a veterinary hospital in Selangor, Malaysia

A cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the prevalence of feline
bartonellosis and the associated clinicopathological findings in cats presented to the University
Veterinary Hospital, Selangor, Malaysia from 2013–2014. Out of 284 cats examined, Bartonella
DNA was detected in 48 (16.9%) cats using a specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay
targeting the internal transcribed spacer of Bartonella species. Bartonella henselae strain
Houston was identified through BLAST analyses of randomly selected amplicons. Univariable
analysis showed significant association of feline bartonellosis with cats < 2 years of age (OR
1.37, 95% CI 0.982–1.927, p = 0.036) and those presenting with ocular discharge (OR 3.211,
95% CI 1.422–7.248, p = 0.003). Significant associations of neutrophilia (OR 2.244, 95% CI
1.131–4.452, p = 0.019) and monocytosis (OR 2.476, 95% CI 1.154–5.312, p = 0.017) with
bartonella infection in cats were observed. This study reports for the first time the prevalence
(approximately 17%) of feline bartonellosis in Malaysia and highlights several
clinicopathological factors associated with the disease.
7.Effect of different growth conditions on certain biochemical parameters of different cyanobacterial strains

Aims: Variation in the traditional growth medium conditions to enhance the production of lipids, carbohydrates, protein and the free amino acids content of three cyanobacterial species.
Methodology and Results: Three species of cyanobacteria (Anabaena laxa, Anabaena fertilissima and Nostoc muscorum) were collected from the culture collection of Soils, Water and Environment Research Institute, Agriculture Research Center, Giza, Egypt, to investigate their biochemical composition under different growth conditions, using BG110 (nitrogen free) as growth medium. These conditions were represented by control medium, static glucose medium with (1%, w/v), aerated medium (aerated by bubbling technique depending on CO2 normally existed in air with a concentration of 0.03%), molasses medium (0.7%, v/v) and aerated medium enriched with glucose (1%, w/v). Lipid content, total carbohydrates, soluble proteins and free amino acids were determined at the previous conditions. Glucose at 0.7% (w/v) was the most favorable for lipid production in A. laxa, where it exhibited the highest lipid content (427 μg/g fresh wt.). Increasing molasses concentration up to 0.7% (v/v) produced an increase in lipid contents of the tested cyanobacterial strains. The highest lipid content of both N. muscorum (366.2 μg/g fresh wt.) and A. laxa (357.4 μg/g fresh wt.) were recorded at molasses concentrations of 0.1 and 0.7% (v/v), respectively. A. laxa expressed high significant values for both proteins (31.6 μg/mL) and free amino acids (40.5 mg/g dry wt.) after 6 days of incubation period under aerated enriched glucose condition (1%, w/v). Also, at the same growth conditions, A. fertilissima exhibited high significant values for carbohydrates at 4th day (876.8 mg/g dry wt.).
Conclusion, significance and impact of study: Aerated enriched glucose medium (1%, w/v) was the best growth medium condition used in the present study.
8.Immunochemical faecal occult blood test for colorectal cancer screening: a systematic review.

A systematic review on the effectiveness and costeffectiveness of Immunochemical faecal occult IFOBT for CRC screening was carried out. A total of 450 relevant titles were identified, 41 abstracts were screened and 18 articles were included in the results. There was fair level of retrievable evidence to suggest that the sensitivity and specificity of IFOBT varies with the cut-off point of haemoglobin, whereas the diagnostic accuracy performance was influenced by high temperature and haemoglobin stability. A screening programme using IFOBT can be effective for prevention of advanced CRC and reduced mortality. There was also evidence to suggest that IFOBT is cost-effective in comparison with no screening, whereby a two-day faecal collection method was found to be costeffective as a means of screening for CRC. Based on the review, quantitative IFOBT method can be used in Malaysia as a screening test for CRC. The use of fully automated IFOBT assay would be highly desirable.
9.Improved dentin disinfection by combining different-geometry rotary nickel-titanium files in preparing root canals.

OBJECTIVES: This study was to evaluate the antibacterial effect of different instrumentation and irrigation techniques using confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) after root canal inoculation with Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Mesiobuccal and mesiolingual canals of extracted mandibular molars were apically enlarged up to a size 25 hand K-file, then autoclaved and inoculated with E. faecalis. The samples were randomly divided into 4 main groups according to the system of instrumentation and irrigation: an XP-endo Shaper (XPS) combined with conventional irrigation (XPS/C) or an XP-endo Finisher (XPF) (XPS/XPF), and iRaCe combined with conventional irrigation (iRaCe/C) or combined with an XPF (iRaCe/XPF). A middle-third sample was taken from each group, and then the bacterial reduction was evaluated using CLSM at a depth of 50 µm inside the dentinal tubules. The ratio of red fluorescence (dead cells) to green-and-red fluorescence (live and dead cells) represented the percentage of bacterial reduction. The data were then statistically analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test for comparisons across the groups and the Dunn test was used for pairwise comparisons. RESULTS: The instrumentation and irrigation techniques had a significant effect on bacterial reduction (p < 0.05). The iRaCe/XPF group showed the strongest effect, followed by the XPS/XPF and XPS/C group, while the iRaCe/C group had the weakest effect. CONCLUSIONS: Combining iRaCe with XPF improved its bacterial reduction effect, while combining XPS with XPF did not yield a significant improvement in its ability to reduce bacteria at a depth of 50 µm in the dentinal tubules.

10.Perineal Myxoid Liposarcomas: A Case Report and Literature Review

Myxoid liposarcoma is the major subtype of liposarcoma and commonly presents in the
extremities, particularly in the thigh. We introduce an unusual case of a myxoid liposarcoma
presenting as a large perineal swelling occupying the para-rectal and para-anal spaces in a 49-yearold
male patient. The diagnosis, management, and prognosis of myxoid liposarcoma are discussed.
A literature review is performed for myxoid liposarcoma.
