1.Expression of pituritary tumor transforming gene and basic fibroblast growth factor in oral squamous cell carcinoma and related clinical importance
Journal of Practical Stomatology 2000;0(06):-
Objective: To investigate the expression of pituitary tumor transforming gene (PTTG) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in oral squamous cell carcinoma and their relation with each other, as well as the relationship of their expression with clinical-pathological indexes. Methods: The expression of PTTG and bFGF were examined among 55 oral squamous cell carcinoma tissues and 10 normal oral mucosal tissues by the streptavidin-biotinperoxidase (S-P) method. Results:The positive rate of PTTG and bFGF was 78.2% and 67.3% respectively in oral squamous cell carcinoma. The positive rate and grade of PTTG and bFGF were significantly higher than that in the normal mucosa tissues (P
2.EVALUATION OF COLOR OF THINNER CERAMIC VENEER RESTORATION
Medical Journal of Chinese People's Liberation Army 1983;0(05):-
This study was to evaluate the clinical application of thinner ceramic veneer restoration. Tooth color was measured by eye and colorimeter after thinner ceramic veneer restoration. The results showed that there were many factors influencing the color of its clinical restoration. Hue of the ceramic veneer, ceramic materials and bond composites had greater influence than that of dentition. The brightness of ceramic materials and bond composites was closely correlated with the whole restoration brightness. A closer correlation was found with the brightness of bond composite. Thinner ceramic veneer restoration can achive satisfactory results.

To investigate the influence of the extent of attrition of teeth in the elderly and to provide a basis for the treatment, 5 527 teeth of 249 elderly, aged from 60 to 92 years, were examined. The results indicated that the occurrence rate of attrition was 100%, 54.6% of them was slight and 45.4% of them was severe. About 16% of them showed symptoms, and hypersensitivity of teeth was the most common one. The authors tried to individualize the treatment. The teeth with severe attrition were repaired by making plastic-metal plate and occlusive rehabilitation. After treatment all patients′ symptoms were resolved, and masticatory efficiency was improved.

Objective The anterior dentition defects of geriatric patients were restored with modified fixed Maryland Bridge. The clinical design, tooth preparation, fabrication of prosthesis and clinical indication were summarized.Method 24 cases of geriatric patients with anterior dentition defects were restored with modified fixed Maryland Bridge. All selected cases were accompanied with different degree of loosening of neighboring teeth, gingival atrophy and exposure of root. The dentition defects were successfully restored and followed up for 3 to 5 years. Results The overall success rate was 87.5%.Three patients had the prosthesis loosened and re-bonding was necessary. No loosening was found in other patients. There was no swelling or inflammation of gingival underneath the prosthesis. All patients were quite satisfactory with the function and appearance of the prosthesis.Dental calculus was observed in 12 patients, and 2 patients complained of a feeling of foreign body on the side of tongue. Conclusion The modified fixed Maryland Bridge, when used in restoring the dentition defect of geriatric patients, showed the advantages of less tooth reduction, perfect esthetic effect, good fixation of loosening teeth as well as restoration of missing teeth with its splint wings. However, the long-term effect of this technique needs to be further observed.

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of removable partial denture combined with composite resin veneer on occlusal reconstruction for aged patients with dentition defects, and discuss the critical steps of operation. Methods From Mar.2002 to May 2003,16 outpatients with Kennedy 1 type dentition defects with severe anterior attrition were selected. The distal extension removable partial denture(RPD) was used to reestablish the occlusal vertical dimension. The anterior teeth were bonded with the light-cured composite resin based on removable partial denture. The therapeutic effects for all the patients were assessed at 3-month,2-year and 4-year follow-up after treatment.Composite resin restorations were evaluated with modified USPHS criteria, and removable partial denture were assessed by routine examination and subjective questionnaire. Results After 4 years of observation, all prosthesis remained in good condition. The masticatory ability was increased than ever before and the patients were satisfactory with the esthetic appearance of dentures. The remaining rate of light-cured composite resin was 85.7% 4 years after reconstruction, fulfilling the requirements of esthetics and function.Meanwhile, the dental structure could be preserved and the unsatisfactory appearance of removable partial denture was improved by light-cured composite resin. Conclusions The dentition defects of aged people may be effectively restored by combined application of removable partial denture and composite resin veneer. This treatment has many advantagcs, including less trauma, economy and satisfactory in esthetics, and besides,it may better preserve the dental structure. This treatment is well accepted by aged patients,so it is worthy to do further clinical study.

This study evaluated the efficacy of rabdosia rubescens against gingivitis and compared the therapeutic efficacy of different dosage forms of rabdosia rubescens. A multi-center, randomized, double-blind, double-simulation, positive-controlled and parallel trial was conducted. A total of 136 patients exhibiting clinical symptoms of gingivitis were enrolled. The subjects were randomly assigned to two groups: test group (n=67), in which rabdosia rubescens drop pill (960 mg) and 4 tablets of simulation agent of rabdosia rubescen were orally given to the subjects three times a day for 5 days; and control group (n=69), in which the subjects were administered the tablets of rabdosia rubescens (1000 mg) and 24 drop pills of simulation agent of rabdosia rubescens thrice daily for 5 days. The experimental protocols and diagnostic criteria were established by expert panel prior to the experiment. The clinical symptoms were graded according to the severity of the disease and quantified. The total scores and scores for each clinical symptom of gingivitis were assessed at baseline and on the 6th day post-treatment. The therapeutic efficacy was compared between the two groups and in each group itself before and after the treatment. The results showed that in the two groups, the subjects who were given rabdosia rubescens, drop pill or tablet, had a decrease in total scores and scores for each clinical symptom when compared with those before treatment (P<0.01). There was significant difference in the therapeutic efficacy between the test group and the control group with the efficacy rate being 92.54% and 79.71% respectively (P<0.05). It was concluded that rabdosia rubescens showed great promise in treating gingivitis. And rabdosia rubescens drop pill was more efficacious than rabdosia rubescens tablet.
