Commensal microorganisms that colonize barrier surfaces of all multicellular organisms exist in harmony with their hosts and have an important effect on both immune and non-immune functions of their hosts. Numerous researches have shown that gastrointestinal microbiota being one of the most important commensal microorganisms plays a critical role in the occurrence, development and treatment of cancer. As-signing causal roles in cancer to specific microbes and microbiotas, unraveling host-microbiota interactions with environmental factors in carcinogenesis, and applying such knowledge to cancer diagnosis and treatment are areas of intensive interest. This review considers how microbes and the microbiota may amplify or miti-gate carcinogenesis, responsiveness to cancer therapeutics, and cancer-associated complications.

Objective To observe the effect of motor imagery therapy on patients accepted radiotherapy after operation for cerebral glioma. Methods 34 patients were randomly divided into control group (n=17) and observation group (n=17). Both groups accepted routine physiotherapy during radiotherapy, 45~60 min/d, 5 times a week for 4 weeks, while the observation group underwent motor imagery additionally, 15 min/d for 4 weeks. They were evaluated with Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA), Manual Muscle Test (MMT) and modified Barthel Index (MBI) before and after treatment., and with Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS) 1 year later. Results There was no significantly difference in the scores of FMA, MMT and MBI between 2 groups before treatment (P>0.05). There was no significantly difference in the score of FMA in both groups before and after treatment (P>0.05). The score of MMT improved in the observation group after treatment (P<0.01). The scores of MBI improved in both groups after treatment (P<0.05). And there was no significantly difference in the D-value score of FMA, MMT and MBI between 2 groups (P>0.05). After 1 year follow-up, KPS showed that the number of survival patients and their quality of life were better in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Motor imagery therapy can improve the muscle force, activities of daily living and long-term quality of life in patients during radiotherapy after neurosurgery for cerebral glioma.

Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety as well as the effects of rituximab on B-lymphocytes and anti-platelet glycoprotein-specific antibodies,in patients with steroid-resistant idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura(ITP).Methods Twelve steroid-resistant ITP patients,16 to 54 years old, received intravenous rituximab at the dose of 375 mg/m2 once-weekly for 4 weeks.Lab studies included CBC,serum concentrations of IgG,IgM and IgA.CD+3,CD+4,CD+8,CD+19,CD+20 cell numbers were assayed by flow cytometry and anti-platelet glycoprotein-specific antibodies(GP Ⅱ b/Ⅲ a,GP Ⅰ b/Ⅸ)were assayed by monoclonal antibody-specific immobilisation of platelet antigens prior to and following rituximab therapy. Results A complete response(platelet counts ≥100×109/L)was observed in 4 cases,a partial response (platelet counts between 50 and 100×109/L)in 3 cases,a minor response(platelet counts between 30 and 50×109/L)in 2 cases, and non response(platelet counts<30×109/L)in 3 cases.Responses were sustained 0.5 to 12 months(median 5 months). After 4 weeks of rituximab therapy,anti-platelet glycoprotein-specific antibodies(GP Ⅱ b/Ⅲ a,GP Ⅰ b/Ⅸ)disappeared except one NR patient and CD+19/CD+20 cells were almost depleted in all patients(295.0±86.4)×106/L vs(4.1±2.2)×106/L(P<0.01).As expected, the T cell counts, and the serum concentrations of IgG,IgM and IgA were not changed after therapy. No severe side effects were observed. Conclusion Rituximab may be an effective and safe treatment for adults with steroid-resistant ITP.

Chinese Journal of Analytical Chemistry 2010;38(3):449-452
An electrolyte cathode atmospheric glow discharge atomic emission spectroscopy(ELCAD-AES) has been developed to determine the hardness of water. By the standard curves of Mg and Ca, the concentration curves of Mg and Ca measurement were obtained. The limits of detection of Mg and Ca were 0.2 and 0.8 mg/L, respectively. The precision and recovery were experimentally elucidated, which indicated that the homemade ELCAD-AES system has a good performance. Finally, practical water samples such as tap water, boiled tap water, ground water, boiled ground water and lake water were analyzed by the method. The results were in agreement with those by the EDTA titration. This demonstrates that ELCAD-AES has the capacity for on-line determination of water hardness.

The expression level of ICAM-1, ? 5, ? 1 had a trend to rise as HCC stage become higher, and there was a statistical difference in the expression level of ICAM-1 between Ⅰ-Ⅱ stage and Ⅳ stage. ④The expression level of ICAM-1,CD 44V , ? 5, ? 1 had positive correlation with tumor volume, tumor nodules, tumor metastasis, and had negative correlation with tumor encapsulation. E-cadherin and CD44 had negative correlation with tumor volume, tumor nodules, tumor metastasis, and had positive correlation with tumor encapsulation. All showed no significant correlation with the level of AFP , the degree of cirrhosis and the function of liver. CONCLUSION: There was a significant difference in the expression level of adhesion molecule mRNA in HCC, and their expression had Spearman correlation with each other. The expression level of adhesion molecule mRNA is associated with tumor volume, tumor nodules and tumor metastasis. [

ObjectiveTo investigate the effectiveness of combined oxaliplatin regimen as adjuvant chemotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma and to evaluate the efficacy of using adenosine triphosphate tumor chemosensitivity assay (ATP-TCA) for direction of individual chemotherapy.MethodsThe twenty-six patients with primary hepatocellular carcinoma were operated.Specimens were collected and adenosine triphosphate tumor chemosensitivity assay (ATP-TCA) was applied to evaluate the sensitiveness of chemotherapy agent(Adriamycin, Mitomycin, Mitoxantrone, Oxaliplatin, Irinotecan, 5-FU, Gemzar, Carboplatin, Cisplatin, Docetaxel and Etoposide).Sensitive group (SG) was from from 11 patients who were sensitive to oxaliplatin, and control group was from the other 16 patients who were not sensitive to oxaliplatin. All the twenty-six patients received oxaliplatin combined with 5-FU or capecitabine regimen chemotherapy. The effectiveness (CR,PR,SD,PD,ORR,OS and DFS) of the regimen according to RECIST criteria and WHO criteria for anticancer drugs toxicity and efficacy of ATP-TCA were evaluated.ResultsTwenty-six patients were successfully evaluated. In SG, six patients obtained complete remission(CR), three got partial remission(PR), one got stable disease (SD) and one patient got progression disease (PD).While in control group, four patients obtained CR,two patients got PR, five patients got SD and four got PD.No significant differences were found in overall survival (OS, P = 0.1116) and disease-free survival (DFS, P = 0.2328)between sensitive group and control group. But significant differences were found in overall response rate (ORR) (81.8% vs 40.0%, P =0.0401) between two groups.Common toxicities were as follows:I to Ⅱdegree of myelosuppression was 53.8%, I to Ⅱ degree of gastrointestinal tract response was 50%, I to Ⅱ degree of liver function damage was 57.7% and I to Ⅱ degree of neuropathy was 23.1%, respectively. Most of these toxicities were tolerable at grade 1 ~ 2.No significant differences were found in the toxicities between two groups.ConclusionsCombined oxaliplatin regimen might be an effective choice for adjuvant chemotherapy for HCC, which has with tolerable systemic toxicity.Application of ATP-TCA system might further improve the efficacy of this regimen by selecting right candidate.
