Tianjin Medical Journal 2013;(12):1199-1201
Objective To investigate the role of puerarin in protecting the glaucomatous retina against the damage induced by oxidative stress. Methods Twenty-four healthy adult male rabbits were divided into three groups: control group, model group and therapy group with 8 rabbits per group. The glaucoma model rats of therapy group and model group were induced by injecting 2.5%hydroxypropyl methylcellulose into the anterior chamber of rabbits. The therapy group was treated by injecting puerarin into the peritoneal of rabbits (10 mL/kg,one time a day for 21 days). The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and catalase (CAT), the content and the redox state of glutathione and the contents of malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) in the retina were measured at the fourth week after the induc-tion of glaucoma by using corresponding kits. Results The activities of SOD, GSH-Px and CAT, the content of reduced glu-tathione (GSH) and the ratio of GSH/oxidized glutathione (GSSG) in retina were lower in model group than those of control group. The contents of GSSG, MDA and NO were higher in model group than those of control group. The activities of SOD, CAT and GSH-Px, the content of GSH and the ratio of GSH/GSSG in retina were higher in therapy group than those of model group, but still lower than those of control group. The contents of GSSG, MDA and NO were lower in therapy group than those of model group. There was no statistical difference in the content of GSSG between therapy group and control group. Conclu-sion Puerarin can enhance the activities of antioxidant enzymes and maintain the redox state of glutathione, which, in turn, alleviates the injury of the glaucomatous retina induced by oxidative stress.

Objective To understand the distribution and antimicrobial resistance of pathogens isolated from bone and joint infection sites of orthopedic patients,so as to provide reference for prevention and therapy of bone and joint infection. Methods 114 specimens from bone and joint infection sites of orthopedic patients between June 2010 and October 2013 were surveyed, pathogens and antimicrobial susceptibility of pathogens were analyzed. Results A total of 145 pathogenic isolates were obtained,62.07%(n=90)of which were gram-negative bacteria,34.48%(n=50)were gram-positive bacteria,2.07%(n=3)were Candida spp .,and 1 .38%(n =2)were anaerobic bacteria. The top 4 pathogens were Pseudomonas aeruginosa (20.69%),Staphylococcus aureus (12.41 %),Escherichia coli (11 .03 %),and Enterobacter cloacae (9.65%).These pathogens presented remarkable resistance. The resistant rate of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to ceftazidime was up to 40.00%;the resistant rates of Escherichia coli to com-pound sulfamethoxazole, ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin were all 100.00%.Conclusion Gram-negative bacteria are the major pathogens in orthopedic ward, the isolated strains are resistant to multiple antimicrobial agents.
5.Semen cassiae extract attenuates myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury in type 2 diabetic rats
Basic & Clinical Medicine 2015;(1):1-6
Objective Obese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus ( T2DM) characterized by hyperglycemia are li-able to more severe myocardial infarction .Semen Cassiae is proved to reduce serum lipid level .This study was to investigate whether the Semen Cassiae extract (SCE) reduces myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R) injury with or without diabetes and the underlying mechanisms .Methods The high-fat diet-fed streptozotocin ( HFD-STZ) rat model was used as T2DM model.Normal and DM rats received SCE treatment orally (10 mg/kg/day) for 1 week.Subsequently these animals were subjected to MI /R.Results Compared with the normal animals , DM rats showed increased plasma total cholesterol ( TC) and triacylglycerol ( TG) , more severe MI/R injury and cardi-ac functional impairment .SCE treatment significantly reduced the plasma TC and TG , improved the instantaneous first derivation of left ventricle pressure and reduced infarct size , decreased plasma creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase levels, and reduced apoptosis index at the end of reperfusion in diabetic rats .Moreover, SCE treat-ment increased the antiapoptotic protein Akt and stimulated ERK 1/2 phosphorylation .Pretreatment with a PI3 K in-hibitor wortmannin or an ERK1/2 inhibitor PD98059 not only blocked Akt and ERK1/2 phosphorylation, but also inhibited the cardioprotective effects of SCE .However , SCE treatment did not show any effects on the MI/R injury in the normal rats. Conclusions SCE effectively improves myocardial function and reduces MI/R-induced injury in diabetic but not normal animals , which is potentially attributable to the reduced TC/TG levels and the triggered cell survival signaling Akt and ERK 1/2 .

9.Radiotherapy efficacy of E-Flow imaging on cervical lymph nodes metastasized from nasopharyngeal carcinoma
Journal of Central South University(Medical Sciences) 2010;35(6):566-571
Objective To explore the effect of E-Flow imaging on the radiotherapy of cervical lymph nodes metastasized from nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods A total of 52 nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients with 94 invasion neck lymph nodes were treated with conventional radiotherapy. Lymph node size, hemodynamic parameters, and blood supply were detected by E-Flow imaging and two-dimensional ultrasound before and after the radiotherapy. The relationship between those examinations and radiotherapy effect was analyzed. Results Of the 94 metastatic cervical lymph nodes from nasopharyngeal carcinoma before the radiotherapy, 40 disappeared, 52 reduced, and 2 maintained the original size after the radiotherapy. Blood flow in all residual lymph nodes decreased or disappearaed. Artery flow spectrum in the lymph node was changed from the high-speed high impedance to low-speed low resistance. The size of cervical lymph node and blood flow before the radiotherapy were associated with clinical efficacy (P<0.05). Conclusion E-Flow imaging plays an important role in assessing the efficacy of radiation therapy by changing the blood supply of cervical lymph node and its size before and after the radiotherapy.
