World Science and Technology-Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2013;(4):620-627
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) effect terminology is usually composed of a verb-noun structure such as clearing lung, expelling wind, killing worm and etc. The noun part, indicating objects of the ac-tion of TCM, is usually involved with some core concepts of TCM theory system. In this research, the 30 volumes of TCM work, which is Zhong Hua Ben Cao, were set as data source of the analysis. We collected TCM effect terms from 1702 TCM items. The most commonly used nouns were extracted, including 6 organ nouns, 11 concept nouns, and 9 illness nouns. Combined with modern pharmacological activity data for the 1702 TCM items, chi-square analysis and Spearman correlation analysis were employed to profile the modern pharmacological meanings of these noun terms.

Chinese Journal of Information on Traditional Chinese Medicine 2006;0(04):-
Objective To analyse the relevant factors of distribution of TCM syndrome for ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Methods 194 AS patients visiting the department of Rheumat Immunity, Guanganmen Hospital, were investigated in the way of horizontal study. And the relationship between TCM syndrome and age, sextuality, staging, grading of sacroiliac joint, laboratory index was studied. Results It was no significant difference of AS TCM syndrome with different age, sextuality, early、medium、advanced stage, and grading of sacroiliac joint. But it was different between the active stage and inactive stage. For the laboratory index, the ESR and CRP of each syndrome was different, while the comparison with the data of blood routine examination was no evident difference. Conclusion The distribution of AS TCM syndrome on active stage is mainly about the retention of damp-heat, and the inactive stage is mainly on the deficiency of kidney-yang syndrome. Compared with other sydromes, ERS and CRP in the syndrome of retention of damp-heat are significantly high. It is no significant changes of syndrome on aspects of different age, early、medium、advanced stages, and grading of sacroiliac joint.

[Objective] To assess the role of imbalance between regulatory T (Treg) cells and T helper 17 (Th17) cells in the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis (AD).[Methods] Peripheral blood was obtained from 41 patients with AD and 38 age- and sex-matched healthy controls.Flow cytometry was performed to determine the percentage of Treg cells (CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ T cells) and Thl7 cells (CD4+ILl7+ T cells),real-time quantitative reverse transcription (RT)-PCR to detect the mRNA expressions of Foxp3 and RORγt,which are the specific transcription factors of Treg and Th17 cells respectively.Serum concentrations of transforming growth factor (TGF)-β,IL-17 and IL-23 were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Data were statistically assessed by independent-samples t test and Pearson correlation analysis.[Results] The patients with AD showed an obvious decrease in Treg cell percentage, transcription factor Foxp3 mRNA level and Treg/Th17 ratio (2.01% ± 0.57% vs.5.04% ± 1.44%,t =12.47,P< 0.01; 0.65 ± 0.19 vs.1.71 ± 0.69,t=9.47,P<0.01; 1.26 ± 0.61 vs.14.53 ± 5.77,t =14.11,P < 0.01),but a significant increase in peripheral Th17 cell percentage and transcription factor RORγt mRNA level (1.77% ± 0.55% vs.0.39% ± 0.15%,t =14.82,P <0.01; 5.97 ± 1.45 vs.1.49 ± 0.57,t =17.78,P < 0.01 ) compared with the healthy controls.Further comparison revealed that Treg/Th17 ratio was significantly lower in patients with acute AD than in those with subacute AD (0.88 ± 0.04 vs.1.29 ± 0.11,t =4.02,P < 0.01 ) and those with chronic AD (2.05 ± 0.24,t =4.83,P < 0.01 ),statistically different between patients with subacute AD and chronic AD (t =2.89,P < 0.05).There was no significant difference in the serum concentration of TGF-β between patients with AD and healthy controls ((15.28 ± 2.34) μg/L vs.(16.56 ± 3.27) μg/L,t =1.96,P> 0.05).A significant increase was observed in the serum levels of IL-17 and IL-23 in patients with AD compared with those in the healthy controls( (33.24 ± 7.06)ng/L vs.(11.68 ± 2.67) ng/L,t =17.96,P< 0.01; (56.35 ± 12.16) ng/L vs.(18.43 ± 3.90) ng/L,t =18.36,P< 0.01).In patients with moderate and severe AD,SCORing atopic dermatitis (SCORAD) index was negatively correlated with the percentage of Treg ceils (r =-0.40,P< 0.05 ),but positively correlated with that of Th17 cells (r =0.42,P < 0.05 ).[Conclusion]s There exists a change in Treg/Th 17 ratio,mRN A expressions of RORγt and Foxp3,and serum levels of relevant cytokines in patients with AD,which may lead to immune imbalance and subsequently contribute to the development of AD.

BACKGROUND:Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s and al ogenic bones are commonly used as seed cel s and scaffolds, respectively, for constructing tissue-engineered cartilage through in vitro co-culture. The loose body of the knee joint can survive in the articular cavity for a long time, and maintain certain characteristics of cartilage tissues. Therefore, the articular cavity can provide a good environment for the growth and development of chondrocytes. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s co-cultured with al ogenic bone in the articular cavity. METHODS:Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s were isolated from five newborn New Zealand white rabbits. One adult New Zealand rabbit was enrol ed to prepare al ogenic bone for co-culture with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s. Afterwards, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s and al ogenic bone composites were cultured in the articular cavity (intracavitary culture group) or in vitro as in vitro culture group, respectively;the normal cartilage tissues grew in the articular cavity as control group. Cel s were observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining and type II col agen immunohistochemistry staining at 4, 8 and12 weeks of culture. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:At 12 weeks culture, hematoxylin-eosin staining showed:in the control group, chondrocytes arranged tightly and directional y with red stained cytoplasm and cartilage matrix as wel as blue nuclei;in the intracavitary culture group, the scaffold was mostly absorbed and chondrocytes grew into the scaffold in a certain direction with smaller shape, while cytoplasm and cartilage ma trix were red stained, blue nuclei appeared;in the in vitro culture group, abundant chondrocytes proliferated in a disordered arrangement. Immunohistochemistry staining showed:the absorbance ( A) values in the intracavitary culture group showed a continuous increase, but no obvious change was in the other two groups. Moreover, at 4, 8 and 12 weeks of culture, A values in the control group and intracavitary culture group were significantly higher than that in the in vitro culture group (P<0.05);at 4 and 8 weeks, A value in the intracavitary culture group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05), but at 12 weeks, there was no significant difference in A value between the two groups (P>0.05). These results suggest that the tissue-engineered cartilage can be constructed by bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells co-cultured with allogenic bone under in vitro and in vivo environment, especially in the articular cavity.
