OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of Ningdong Granule (NG) on serum levels of interleukin-12 (IL-12) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) of children patients with Tourette's syndrome (TS).
METHODSTotally 90 TS children patients were randomly assigned to the NG group, the NG + Tiapride group (abbreviated as the combined treatment group), and the Tiapride group, 30 in each group. Besides, another 30 healthy children were recruited as the healthy control group. Patients in the NG group were treated with NG (consisting of all gastrodia rhizome, Codonopsis pilosula, Ophiopogon japonicus, white peony root, Rhinocerotidae, oyster, earthworm, licorice root, etc.), one dose daily, administered by dissolving it in boiled water, taken in two portions in the morning and in the evening respectively. Patients in the Tiapride group took Tiapride Tablet, 50 -100 mg each time, twice daily. The dosage was adjusted according to individual difference and changes of pathogenic conditions. The maximal dosage was 300 mg per day. Those in the combined treatment group were treated with equal dose of NG and Tiapride Tablet in combination. The treatment course was 3 months for all. Changes of pathogenic condition before and after treatment were assessed by Yale global tic severity scale (YGTSS). Serum levels of IL-12 and TNF-alpha were detected by enzyme-labeled immunosorbent assay (ELISA) before and after treatment.
RESULTS(1) The total effective rate of the NG group, the combined treatment group, and the Tiapride group was 79.3%, 83.3%, and 67.9%, respectively. It was the lowest in the Tiapride group (P < 0.05). It was significantly higher in the combined treatment group than in the NG group (P < 0.05). (2) The post-treatment YGTSS score was obviously lower in each group after treatment than before treatment (P < 0.05). The posttreatment YGTSS score was obviously lower in the NG group and the combined treatment group than in the Tiapride group (P < 0.05), but with no statistical difference between the fromer two groups (P > 0.05).(3) Compared with the healthy control group before treatment, serum levels of IL-12 and TNF-alpha (pg/mL) were 124.95 +/- 22.78 and 209.52 +/- 21.69 in the NG group, 126.14 +/- 25.65 and 208.97 +/- 22.46 in the combined treatment group, 123.00 +/- 24.26 and 205.10 +/- 26.16 in the Tiapride group, being higher than those in the healthy control group (64.56 +/- 27.59 and 78.13 +/- 33.42; P < 0.05). After treatment, serum levels of of IL-12 and TNF-alpha were 104.67 +/- 16.84 and 183.01 +/- 24.95 in the NG group, 109.04 +/- 16.81 and 179.87 +/- 23.45 in the combined treatment group, significantly lower than before treatment (P < 0.05). But there was no statistical difference in serum levels of IL-12 or TNF-alpha in the Tiapride group between before treatment (123.00 +/- 24.26 and 205.10 +/- 26.16) and after treatment (117.75 +/- 16.79 and 199.76 +/- 33.21; P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONNG could modulate abnormal serum levels of IL-12 and TNF-alpha in TS children patients, which might be one of its pharmacodynamic mechanisms for treating TS.

China Biotechnology 2006;0(05):-
CD127 is the interleukin7 receptor ?(IL7R?),it regulates the specific respond of T lymphocytes to IL7.CD127 plays an indispensable role in the development of thymocytes into T lymphocytes, the survival and homeostatic proliferation of memory T cells. There are only two phases of the life period of T cells that do not express CD127:immature CD4+8+double positive(DP)thymocytes and activated T cells.Recently,it was found that CD127 play an important role as the specific marker of memory T cells and regulator T cells. The role and mechanism of CD127 in the life period of T cells were discussed herein.

In the article, through exploring the methodology of integrative medicine and its development tendency, the authors pointed out that the pattern of combining disease and syndrome is the basic method for clinical or experimental research of integrative medicine, to conduct researches on function and structure in combination is the key point of integrative medical research. The thoughts and ways of evidence-based medicine (EBM) should be widely applied in integrative medicine, and to improve the clinical effect should be taken as the breakthrough. To establish a dynamic connecting and comprehensive thinking mode as well. They also pointed out that to integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine is the necessity for the development of society and science. More achievements of integrative medicine are expectable in future.

Biomedical and Environmental Sciences 2013;26(9):742-749
OBJECTIVETo study the biological effects of nanoscale copper oxide (nCuO), zinc oxide (nZnO), cerium dioxide (nCeO2) and their mixtures on Carassius auratus.
METHODSJuvenile fish (Carassius auratus) were exposed to aqueous suspensions of nCuO, nZnO, and nCeO2 (alone and in mixtures) at concentrations of 20, 40, 80, 160, and 320 mg/L. The biomarkers-acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in brain, sodium/potassium-activated ATPase (Na+/K+-ATPase) in gill, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) in liver-were determined after 4 days of exposure. Integrated biomarker response (IBR) was calculated by combining multiple biomarkers into a single value.
RESULTSAChE and SOD activities were significantly inhibited by all test metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) at high concentrations (⋝160 mg/L) with the exception of nCeO2. Na+/K+-ATPase induction exhibited bell-shaped concentration-response curves. CAT activity was significantly inhibited at concentrations equal to or higher than 160 mg/L. The order of IBR values was nCeO2 ≈ nZnO/nCeO2 ≈ nCuO/nCeO2 < nCuO/nZnO/nCeO2 < nZnO < nCuO < nCuO/nZnO. The joint effect seemed to be synergistic for nCuO/nZnO mixtures, additive for the ternary mixture and less than additive or antagonistic for the binary mixtures containing nCeO2.
CONCLUSIONConcentration-dependent changes of enzymatic activities (AChE, Na+/K+-ATPase, SOD, and CAT) were observed in fish exposed to nanoscale metal oxides. IBR analysis allowed good discrimination between the different exposures and might be a useful tool for the quantification of integrated negative effects induced by NPs toward fish.

BACKGROUND: Physiologic Anchorage Spee's-wire System (PASS) is a new appliance for orthodontic treatment in recent years. It has its superiority in support control, torque domination and friction control, and it is also unique in opening bite. OBJECTIVE: To build a three-dimensional finite element model of PASS with intrusion arch, and to analyze its effects on intrusion of the anterior teeth and on enhancing anchorage of the molars.METHODS: The CT scan data were imported into software of Mimicsl7.0 to obtain a three-dimensional model of the teeth and jaw bone. A series of modeling software such as Geomagic Studio, NX, ANSYSl5.0 were used to obtain the three-dimensional model of the maxillary dentition with PASS and intrusion arch. The overall force of the dentition and movement of the anterior teeth were analyzed when the intrusion arch was located at the mesial side of the central incisor and lateral incisor as well as the distal side of the lateral incisor.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: It was efficient to accomplish the intrusion of the anterior teeth when the arch was located between central incisors. Labial inclination of the anterior teeth was achieved when the arch was ligated at the mesial side of the lateral incisor. Lingual inclination and intrusion of the anterior teeth was found when the arch was located at the distal side of the lateral incisor. Under these three kinds of conditions, the trend of molar retrodisplacement became remarkable. The maximum movement trend of the incisors was achieved, when the arch was ligated at the mesial side of the central incisor, mainly due to the intrusion of the incisors. The molar retrodisplacement was improved under the three conditions. This experiment simulated the stress distribution and displacement trend of the teeth, which is beneficial to the clinical understanding and application of the PASS technology with intrusion arch.
9.Effects of nitrogen fertilization strategies on nitrogen use efficiency in physiology, recovery, and agronomy and redistribution of dry matter accumulation and nitrogen accumulation in two typical rice cultivars in Zhejiang, China.

Journal of Zhejiang University. Science. B 2007;8(3):208-216
Field experiments were conducted in farmers' rice fields in 2001 and 2002 to study the effects of nitrogen (N) management strategies on N use efficiency in recovery (RE), agronomy (AE) and physiology (PE) and redistribution of dry matter accumulation (DMA) and nitrogen accumulation (NA) in two typical rice cultivars in Jinhua, Zhejiang Province. This study aimed mainly at identifying the possible causes of poor fertilizer N use efficiency (NUE) of rice in Zhejiang by comparing farmers' fertilizer practice (FFP) with advanced site-specific nutrient management (SSNM) and real-time N management (RTNM). The results showed that compared to FFP, SSNM and RTNM reduced DMA and NA before panicle initiation and increased DMA and NA at post-flowering. There is no significant difference between SSNM and FFP in post-flowering dry matter redistribution (post-DMR) and post-flowering nitrogen redistribution (post-NR). These results suggest that high input rate of fertilizer N and improper fertilizer N timing are the main factors causing low NUE of irrigated rice in the farmer's routine practice of Zhejiang. With SSNM, about 15% of the current total N input in direct-seeding early rice and 45% in single rice could be reduced without yield loss in Zhejiang, China.
