ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of medical chitin degraded membrane on post-surgical abdominal adhesions.MethodsForty adult rabbits were made to form abdominal adhesions and divided randomly into four groups including group A1 and its control group A2, group B1 and its control groups B2 with 10 animals in each group. Medical chitin degraded membrane was applied in the group A and group B to the surfaces of the positions where would be adhered. All animals were cut the belly open again on the 7th, 14th postoperative day; the adhesions about incision and appendix were graded according to the severity, and took on bioscopy.ResultsThe abdominal adhesions model was successful. The severity of adhesions and inflammatory reaction of the group A1 and group B1 was significantly milder than that of the group A2 and group B2 in every different periods ( P<0.05).ConclusionThe medical chitin degraded membrane used intraoperatively might have some efficacy in preventing post-surgical abdominal adhesions.

Objective To quantify aqueous flare and cells in the eyes of healthy subjects and to evaluate the effect of age and sex on the blood aqueous barrier. Design Prospective case series. Participants Four hundred and forty-two eyes of 221 healthy sub- jects. Methods Aqueous flare and cells of 442 eyes were evaluated with FC-2000 laser flare cell meter (LFCM). Main Outcome Mea- sures Aqueous flare and cells. Results The mean flare values of all of eyes was 4.7?2.9 pc/ms, it was 3.1 pc/ms in the age group of less than 10 years, 3.8 pc/ms in the age group of 40-49 years and 11.0 pc/ms in the age group of 80 years or over. Objective: To assess the clinical efficacy of Xuebijing injection in the prevention of postoperative systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) in the patients with ureteral stones and urinary tract infection during the perioperative period of ureteroscopy.Methods: Totally 64 cases with ureteral stones complicated with urinary tract infection treated with ureteroscopy were selected as the subjects and divided into two groups according to the digital method.The 32 cases in the control group were given the conventional antibiotics during the perioperative period for preventing the incidence of SIRS, and the observation group was given 500ml Xuebijing added to 100ml normal saline for intravenous drip additionally.The incidence of SIRS and the laboratory indicators after the operation were observed and compared between the groups.Results: The incidence of postoperative SIRS of the observation group was 9.38% , which was lower than that of the control group (34.38% , P <0.05);the incidence of sepsis of the observation group was 0%, while there was no statisticcally difference bettween the two groups(P＞0.05).The C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), leucocyte count and endotoxin in the observation group on the 2nd, 4th and 6th day after the operation were better than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P＜0.05).Conclusion: Xuebijing injection combined with antibiotics has significant clinical effect on the incidence of SIRS after ureteroscopy in the patients with ureteral stones and urinary tract infection, which can effectively improve the clinical indicators and reduce the incidence of sepsis, and is worthy of clinical promoted application.

During the washing process of coarse bear gall powder extracts, it is necessary to adjust the amount of ethyl acetate according to the properties of raw materials, which aims to improving the yield and purity of the final product. In the research, using NIR spectra to reflect the comprehensive properties of coarse bear gall powder extracts, the process is optimized in a flexible way. Forty batches experiments are designed according to the weight ratio of ethyl acetate and coarse extracts of bear gall powder. The NIR spectra of the coarse extracts of bear gall powder are collected and processed using principal component analysis (PCA) method. The first 8 principal components combined with the amount of the ethyl acetate are used as the input variables, and calibration models are established to predict the yield and purity of the final product 30 batches are used as calibration set, which is used to establish the models, and other 10 batches are used as validation set, which is used for the performance appraisal of the established models. The correlation coefficients of the calibration, inner cross-validation and external validation for the purity model are 0.902, 0.896 and 0.883, respectively, and the RMSEC, RMSECV and RMSEP are 1.22%, 1.48% and 1.59%, respectively. The correlation coefficients of the calibration, inner cross-validation and external validation for the yield model are 0.921, 0.859 and 0.916, respectively, and the RMSEC, RMSECV and RMSEP are 1.39%, 1.65% and 1.53% respectively. This work demonstrated that NIR spectra combined with technology parameter could be used to predict the yield and purity of the final product. Using the established models, the most appropriate amount of the ethyl acetate can be determined according to the properties of the coarse bear gall powder extracts, and the yield and purity of the final product can be improved.

OBJECTIVETo summarize the complications and the early clinical effect of less invasive stabilization system and the femoral condylar support plates in the treatment of AO type C distal femoral fractures.

METHODSFrom September 2007 to February 2012, 46 patients with AO type C distal femoral fractures were retrospectively studied. Of all patients 25 were treated with less invasive stabilization system including 14 males and 11 females with a mean age of (56.3±4.2) years old; according to AO classification, there were 14 cases of C1, 8 cases of C2 and 3 cases of C3 with a mean hospital stay of (15.6±1.7) days. While 21 cases were treated with femoral condylar support plates fixation including 12 males and 9 females with a mean age of (53.8±5.1) years old;there were 13 cases of C1, 6 cases of C2 and 2 cases of C3 with a mean hospital stay of (17.8±2.2) days. Comparative analysis was performed from the operation related index,postoperative complications and Evanich score of the knee joint function between the two groups at follow-up.

RESULTSAll 46 patients were followed up from 13 to 38 months with a mean time of 19.6 months after surgery. Complications included 1 case with infection,3 cases with internal fixation failure, 1 case with nonunion and 1 case with activity limitation of the affected knee. The differences in the incision length, blood loss, fracture healing time were significant between two groups (P<0.05), while there was no significant difference in the duration of operations, hospital stays and the incidence of postoperative complications between two groups (P>0.05). The statistical significance was also found in the Evanich score at last follow-up between two groups (P<0.05).

CONCLUSIONPatients with less invasive stabilization system fixation had the characteristics of less trauma, shorter fracture healing time and better functional recovery. Less invasive stabilization system had became one of the ideal internal fixations in the treatment of AO type C distal femoral fractures.

BACKGROUND: The present study was undertaken to examine the regulatory effect of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) on endoplasmic reticulum stress in alveolar epithelial cells of rats with acute lung injury (ALI) induced by oleic acid (OA). METHODS: Seventy-two male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were divided into control group, oleic acid-induced ALI group (OA group), oleic acid-induced ALI with sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS) pretreatment group (OA+NaHS group), and sodium hydrosulfide treatment group (NaHS group). Rats of each group were further subdivided into 3 subgroups. Index of quantitative assessment of histological lung injury (IQA), wet/dry weight ratio (W/D) and H2S level of lung tissues were measured. The expressions of endoplasmic reticulum stress markers including glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78) and α-subunit of eukaryotic translation initiation factor-2 (elF2α) in lung tissues were measured by immunohistochemical staining and Western blotting. RESULTS: The IQA score and W/D ratio of lung tissues at the three time points significantly increased in rats injected with OA, but significantly decreased in other rats injected with OA and NaHS. The level of H2S in lung tissue at the three time points significantly decreased in rats injected with OA, but significantly increased in other rats injected with both OA and NaHS. GRP78 and elF2αdecreased in rats injected with OA, but increased in other rats injected with both OA and NaHS, especially at 4-hour and 6-hour time points. CONCLUSION: The results suggested that H2S could promote alveolar epithelial cell endoplasmic reticulum stress in rats with ALI.

Objective:New Zealand rabbits were immunized with VLPs-MEpS,VLPs-E2S,and the levels of neutralizing antibodies in serum were determined.Methods: New Zealand rabbits were immunized with 10 μg VLPs-MEpS and VLPs-E2S,serum was collected at diffferent time with a two-weeks interval.The neutralizing antibodies were determined by ELISA.HCV(type 1b) had been prepared and mixed with serum from immunized rabbit before infected Huh7.5 cell.The protection of neutralizing antibodies in serum was assessed.Results: Neutralizing antibodies had been induced in rabbit after immunized with VLPs-MEpS and VLPs-E2S.VLPs-MEpS group had higher titer of antibodies than that of VLPs-E2S group(P<0.05),both group had higher titer of antibodies than that of control groups significantly(P<0.01).VLPs-MEpS group had higher neutralization than that of VLPs-E2S group(P<0.05),the highest neutralization rate was 61.49%.Both groups were higher than control group notably(P<0.01).Conclusion: Protective neutralizing antibodies have been induced in New Zealand rabbit after immunized with VLPs-MEpS and VLPs-E2S.It′s the basement for development of neutralizing antibodies vaccine.

Objective To investigate the effect and mechanism of transplantation of marrow multi- function stem ceils in treating femoral head necrosis.Methods Sixty japanese rabbits were divided into A,B and C groups randomly.After creation of the models of hormone induced necrosis of femoral head;A group was designated as the treatment,B as the control and C as the normal groups.The bone marrow of A group was extracted and isolated and then injected into the left femoral head and the right femoral head was decompressed by drilling only.The rabbits were killed at 8 weeks after the treatment and changes in various parameters were observed,including imaging data of molybdenum target films,CT and MRI;routine pathology with HE staining and ultrastructural alteration by election microscopy.Results Eight weeks after the treatment of transplantation of marrow multifunction stem cells,the X-ray showed only a little change but the typical appearances were revealed by CT and MRI.Pathohistologic manifestation demonstrated decrease of empty bone lacuna,increase of osteoblast and new bone formation.Election microscopy displayed abundant organelles in osteoblasts with few empty bone lacuna,in addition the tansplantation of marrow multifunction stem cells could obtain better reconstraction for the involved femoral head.Conclusions The treatment of transplantation of marrow muhifunction stem cells in femoral head necrosis could accelerate the process of repairing,worthy to be acknowledged as a good and valuable management in rabbits.(J Intervent Radial,2007,16:122-126)
