Objective: To investigate the relationships between constitutional types of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and motion sickness. Methods: A survey of TCM constitutions in ocean sailors participating in a voyage was performed by using the TCM Constitution Questionnaire developed by Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, while the survey of motion sickness was operated by Graybiel's diagnostic criteria. The incidences of motion sickness among sailors with different types of constitutions were compared. Results: Prior to the voyage, 50.3% of sailors exhibited a gentleness constitution, 14.5% were of dampness-heat constitution, 10.3% were of qi-stagnation constitution, whereas the percentages of qi-deficiency, yang-deficiency, yin-deficiency, blood-stasis and special diathesis constitutions were 6.2%, 7.6%, 6.2%, 4.1% and 0.7%, respectively. None exhibited a phlegm-dampness constitution. By the end of the 176-day voyage, the percentages of gentleness, dampness-heat, qi-depression, qi-deficiency, yang-deficiency, yin-deficiency, blood-stasis, special diathesis and phlegm-dampness constitutions were 33.8%, 13.8%, 13.1%, 11.0%, 6.9%, 9.7%, 4.1%, 0.7% and 6.9%, respectively. The incidence of motion sickness was 69.7% (101 sailors) during this voyage. The incidences of motion sickness among sailors with different types of constitutions before the voyage showed significant difference (P<0.001). The incidence of motion sickness was higher in the sailors with dampness-heat constitution than in those with gentleness constitution. Conclusion: Types of Chinese medical constitution can be related to susceptibility to motion sickness. Furthermore, ocean voyage may have an effect or influence on the type of Chinese medical constitution of sailors involved.

Objective:To explore the effects of 75% ethanol pre-degreasing combined with 0.5% iodophor disinfection on the number of colonies in the surgical site of brain tumors and the postoperative healing of surgical incisions. Methods:Totally 142 patients who underwent surgery for brain tumors in the Department of Neurosurgery, Qinhuai Medical Area, General Hospital of Eastern Command Theater from January 2017 to December 2018 were selected by convenient sampling, and divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table. Patients in the control group received 0.5% iodophor disinfection conventionally, while the surgical site of patients in the observation group was pre-degreased with 75% ethanol prior to 0.5% iodophor disinfection. The number of skin colonies in the surgical site, the continuous exudation time of the incision and the infection of the incision were compared between the two groups. Results:The number of colonies in the observation group was (3.73±0.62) cfu/cm 2 preoperatively and (3.92±0.47) cfu/cm 2 at the end of the operation, both lower than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant ( t=2.684, 5.559; P<0.05) . The time of postoperative incision exudation of the observation group was (2.12±0.95) days, which was lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant ( t=5.415, P<0.05) ; 2 cases of incision infection occurred in the observation group and 9 cases in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (χ 2=4.834, P<0.05) . Conclusions:In craniotomy for brain tumors, pre-degreasing with 75% ethanol and disinfecting with 0.5% iodophor can reduce the number of colonies in the surgical site, the duration of wound exudation, and the incidence of incision infection.

Objective To investigate the prevalence of Cryptosporidium infection and the distribution of parasite species and genotypes among HIV-positive individuals in Jiangxi Province. Methods HIV-positive individuals' sociodemographic and clinical data were collected from three AIDS designated hospitals in Jiangxi Province from January 2022 to March 2023. Subjects' stool samples were collected, and genomic DNA was extracted from stool samples. Nested PCR assay was performed based on the small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU rRNA) gene of Cryptosporidium, and Cryptosporidium gp60 gene was amplified in stool samples positive for the SSU rRNA gene. The second-round PCR amplification product was checked with 1.5% agarose gel electrophoresis, and the products of suspected positive amplifications were sequenced, followed by sequence alignment. The phylogenetic tree was created using the Neighbor-Joining method with the software MEGA 11.0, to characterize the species, genotypes and sub-genotypes of Cryptosporidium. Results A total of 382 HIV-positive individuals were enrolled, with two cases identified with Cryptosporidium infection (0.52% prevalence), and both cases had no abdominal pain or diarrhea. Following sequencing and sequence alignment, the gene sequences of these two Cryptosporidium isolates shared 99.76% and 99.88% similarity with the gene sequence of C. meleagridis isolates. Phylogenetic analysis based on the Cryptosporidium SSU rRNA gene sequence identified the species of these two Cryptosporidium-positive stool samples as C. meleagridis. Following nested PCR amplification of the Cryptosporidium gp60 gene, sequencing and sequence alignment, the two C. meleagridis isolates were characterized as III eA17G2R1 and III bA25G1R1a sub-genotypes, and the sub-genotype III bA25G1R1a was firstly described in humans. Conclusion The prevalence of Cryptosporidium is low among HIV-positive individuals in Jiangxi Province. The likelihood of Cryptosporidium infection cannot be neglected among HIV-positive individuals without diarrhea.
