Objective To study the value of imaging characters in diagnosing mediastinal tumors.Methods X-ray and CT findings of pathologically proved mediastinal tumors in 58 cases were analysed,the findings enabling qualitative diagnosis were recommended. Results There were 40 cases of anterior mediastinal tumors including intrathoracic thyroid tumors [n=32,5 tyroid carcinomas and 1 thyroid cyst ,thymomas (n=3) and teratomas (n=5, 3 cases ruptured)]. All the other 18 cases in posterior mediastinum were neurogenic tumors.Conclusion Based on the combination of the mediastinal compartment knowledge, X-ray and CT findings of the tumors and the clinical information, the qualitative diagnosis of mediastinal tumors will be characterized correctly.

Based on International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Healthy (ICF), this paper discussed the education of exercise rehabilitation in the terms of the goal, knowledge system and practice system. It suggested that the framework of ICF could be used to develop course system. The professional undergraduate education of exercise rehabilitation should include knowledge of rehabilitation medicine, sports science, and skills in modern rehabilitation.

Objective To study the effect of thoracoscopic sympathectomy and/or chemical lumbar sympa- thectomy performed on patients with Raynaud disease. Methods Five patients, 1 male,4 females, aged from 30 to 65(mean 45. 3 ). Raynaud phenomenon appeared only on both hands in one patient, only on feet with a toe gangrene in another one , the other 3 cases on all limbs. Thoracoscopic symathectomy was performed for those whose hands were af- fected and chemical lumbar sympathectomy(12-3 ) was pererformed for those whose feet were affected. Results All patients were followed up from 12 to 48 months(mean 24 months). All experinced improvement with hands warm and satisfactory results after thoracoscopic sympathectomy. However, the original symptoms reccurred in two patients after postoperatire six months. All 4 patients performed chemical lumbar sympathectomy experienced improved symptoms with feet warm and satisfactory results and the symptoms did not recur up to now. The sympathectomy showed different results for hands and for feet. Conclusions Thoracoscopic sympathectomy for hands affected by Raynaud disease has efficiency temporarily, but is not satisfactory. The chemical lumbar sympathectomy for the feet affected by Raynaud disease has dramatically disappearence of symptoms and the results are very good

Objective To investigate the roles of connective tissue growth factor(CTGF) in airway remodeling in asthmatic rats by observation of the changes of CTGF expression in the lungs of asthmatic rats. Methods Rats were sensitized and challenged continually with ovalbumin(OVA) for the purpose of induction of asthma in rats. The distribution and types of collagens were detected by Cirius red staining. Lung hydroxyproline content was determined by acid hydrolysis. CTGF expression in rat pulmonary tissues was detected by SABC immunohistochemistry. Results After continual challenging with OVA for 21 days, collagen hyperplasia was found in the airway wall and CTGF positive expression in airway epithelium. Objective To study the mechanism of activity change of gastric alcohol dehydrogenases(ADH).We investigated ADH before and after ingestion of alcohol on rats.Methods Thirty-nine rats were divided into two groups at random:model ones(24 cases) and control ones(15 cases).Model group of rats were infused into stomaches by alcohol,and control ones by distill water.Structures of cell and sub-cell in gastric mucous membrane were observed by enzyme electron microscope and hematoxylin eosin(HE) stain.Results It was shown that there were dropsical degeneration of chief cells and parietal cells of stomaches by HE stain,and the mitochondria of parietal cells and the rough-surfaced endoplasmic reticulum(rER) of chief cells were destroyed by enzyme electron microscope in model groups after two months of ethanol perfusion.There were not change in control group.Conclusions The mechanism of activity alterations of gastric ADH may result from dropsical degeneration of chief cells and parietal cells of stomach,which result in degeneration,solution and breakage of construction of rER in the chief cells and mitochondria in parietal cells.

ObjectiveTo study the association between cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) and carotid atherosclerosis as well as the risk factors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.MethodsSixty type2 diabetic patients and 60 non-diabetic patients at the same hospitalization period were selected.The clinical features,laboratory test results such as free blood glucose ( FBG),blood lipids and other biochemical markers were recorded.Carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) and CAVI were measured.The relationship between CAVI and carotid atherosclerosis were analyzed; a multivariate linear regression analysis was performed between CAVI and risk factors of type 2 diabetes mellitus.ResultsThe body mass index,triglycerides,FBG,HbA1 c,IMT,the incidence of carotid artery plaque and CAVI values of diabetic group were significantly higher than that of nondiabetic group.Difference between the two groups was statistically significant ( all P ＜ 0.05 ) ; CAVI and carotid IMT was significantly correlated to each other( r =0.435,P ＜ 0.01 ) ; Multiple linear regression analysis showed that CAVI was significantly correlated to age (β =0.458,P ＜0.01 ),triglycerides (β =0.058,P =0.012),FBG (β =0.168,P =0.002) and HbAlc (β =0.228,P =0.003).ConclusionCAVI inpatients with diabetes was positively correlated with carotid IMT.Age,diabetes,triglycerides,FBG and HbAlc are independent risk factors for arterial stiffness.

Objective To analyze plasma vitamin E and CoQ10 levels in patients with autosomal recessive cerebellar ataxia for finding the evidence of the related pathogenesis research and therapeutic strategies.Methods The plasma vitamin E and CoQ10 levels were detected by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with diode array detector in 123 probands of autosomal recessive cerebellar ataxia pedigrees.Quantitation was performed using vitamin E and CoQ10 external standard and two 5-point calibration curve;clinical manifestations were analyzed simuhaneously.Results Vitamin E and CoQ10 levels of healthy subjects in the plasma were (8.77 ± 2.28) μg/ml and (1.31 ± 0.38) μg/ml,respectively;the plasma vitamin E and CoQ10 levels of patients were (5.61 ± 2.04) μg/ml and (0.79 ± 0.26) μg/ml,respectively,which were significantly lower than those in healthy controls (t =11.87,13.15;all P＜ 0.01).Clinical manifestations were characterized by cerebellar symptoms,and gait instability was usually the first recognized abnormality.Most of early onset occurred before the age of 25 years (111/123);dysarthria and abnormal eye movement were observed,with cerebellar atrophy on MRI;concomitant symptoms were also present.Conclusions HPLC analysis shows that the plasma vitamin E and CoQ10 levels of patients with autosomal recessive cerebellar ataxia are generally lower than those in the healthy controls.Several patients with significant reductions in these two levels have genetic defects.The combination of clinical phenotypes,biochemical indexes and genetic analyses will be helpful for the establishment of diagnosis and specific treatment.

Objective To study the glutamine combined with early enteral nutrition’s effects on severe acute pancreatitis’systemic inlfammation. Methods 150 Cases with severe acute pancreatitis were divided into total parenteral nutrtion group(TPN group), early enteral nutrition group(EEN group) and Glutamine and early enteral nutrition group(G+EEN group) according to their therapeutic methods. The curative effects, APACHEⅡscore and liver and kidney function were compared after treatment. Inlfammatory cytokines of hs-CRP, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8 and IL-10 before and after treatment were detected and compared. Results The efifciency rate in G+EEN group was signiifcantly better than that in TPN and EEN group(P<0.05), with lower APACHEⅡscore and better liver and kidney function. The level of hs-CRP, TNF-α, IL-1β, II-6 and IL-8 after treatment in G+EEN group were signiifcantly lower than that in TPN and EEN group(P<0.05), except IL-10, which was signiifcantly higher than that in TPN and EEN group (P<0.05). Conclusion Glutamine combined with early enteral nutrition could signiifcantly ameliorate severe acute pancreatitis’systemic inlfammation, its curative effects is better than early enteral nutrition and total parenteral nutrition.

Thirty-five patients with perioperative pulmonary embolism during January 2000 and October 2006 were analyzed retrospectively.Disease diagnosis and treatment outcomes were assessed.Of the 35 patients,2 died without any management,and 33 received conventional anti-coagulation and thrombolysis.including 3 percutaneous catheterization.Disease improvement Was seen in 29.Four deaths occurred after no response to the treatment.Thus,early diagnosis and treatment,which miight depend on further understanding of pulmonary embolism,could play an important role in reduced adverse events.Prevention is crucial to avoid perioperative occurrence of pulmonary embolism.
