2.Effect of simple phototherapy or phototherapy combined with albumin therapy on severe jaundice in full-term neonates

AIM:To analyze the effect of non-exchange transfusion therapy, including simple phototherapy or phototherapy combined with albumin therapy, on severe jaundice in full-term neonates.METHODS: The full-term neo-nates (n=110) with serum total bilirubin (TBIL) level over 342 μmol/L recewed simple phototherapy or phototherapy combined with albumin therapy.The changes of serum bilirubin levels and neurological signs of these neonates were ob-served.RESULTS:Serum TBIL and indirect bilirubin ( IBIL) levels in the 2 groups of hospitalized cases significantly re-duced after the first day of treatment and at discharged (P<0.01).The reduced degrees of TBIL and IBIL levels in the neonates given phototherapy combined with albumin therapy were higher than those in the neonates given simple photothera-py.All these neonates did not have bilirubin encephalopathy on admission or at discharged.CONCLUSION:Both simple phototherapy and phototherapy combined with albumin therapy treat severe jaundice effectively and prevent acute bilirubin encephalopathy in full-term neonates.
3.Determination of Three Kinds of Anti-dandruff Agents in Cosmetics by High Performance Liquid Chromatography

Objective To develop a method for simultaneous determination of three kinds of anti-dandruff agents,namely ketoconazole,climbazole,piroctone olamine,in cosmetics by HPLC.Methods The cosmetics were extracted with acetonitrile by ultrasonic,then separated with high-speed centrifuge.The supernatant layer was filtrated through membrane with 0.45 ?m diameter.The filtration liquid was injected into HPLC for detection at ?=210 nm.Quantitative analysis was performed with external standard method.Results In the linear range of 1-250 mg/L,the regression equation of ketoconazole was y=32.23x+ 4.59,the detection limit was 0.069 mg/L.In the linear range of 1-500 mg/L,the regression equation of climbazole was y=13.76x+ 9.41,the detection limit was 0.12 mg/L.In the linear range of 10-500 mg/L,the regression equation of piroctone olamine was y= 24.83x-17.17,the detection limit was 0.71 mg/L.The recoveries and relative standard deviations were 91.8%-98.5% and 0.38%0.84%,respectively.Conclusion The experimental results show that the method is simple,precise and accurate and suitable for simultaneous determination of 3 kinds of anti-dandruff agents in cosmetics.
4.Resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Strains to Five ?-Lactams

OBJECTIVE To investigate the resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains to 5 ?-lactams.METHODS Susceptibility of 218 P.aeruginosa strains isolated from Anhui Province in 2005 to ceftriaxone,cefotaxime,ceftazidime,aztreonam,and piperacillin were tested by agar dilution method.RESULTS The resistance rate to ceftriaxone,cefotaxime,aztreonam,piperacillin,and ceftazidime were 59.2%,57.3%, 56.0%,51.8%,and 39.0%,respectively.There was statistically significant difference between ceftazidime and other 4 ?-lactams(P0.05).CONCLUSIONS Ceftazidime is the most susceptible antibiotic to P.aeruginosa strains among 5 ?-lactams tested.

6.Uterine arterial embolization for the treatment of uterine leiomyomas: its dynamic imaging monitoring and therapeutic mechanism

Objective To study the dynamic imaging changes of the uterine leiomyomas before and after uterine arterial embolization (UAE) treatment and to discuss its therapeutic mechanism. Methods Color Doppler senography and both plain and enhanced MR[scanning were performed in 45 patients with uterine leiomyomas before and after UAE. Plain CT scan was performed in all patients after UAE. All the patients were followed up for 3-16 months (average 10±3.5 months). Results In 41 of the total 45 cases, the color Doppler senography showed rich blood flow signals in leiomyomas and myometrium before UAE and no or less blood flow signals in both leiomyomas and myometrium on the first day after UAE. On the seventh day, the blood flow signal was still absent in leiomyomas while it was restored in myometrium, and the same phenomena remained in the first, the third and the twelfth month after UAE. In the other four eases, color Doppler sonography demonstrated blood flow signals inside leiomyomas on the seventh day after UAE and it remained till twelve months after embolization. The embolic agent (Lipiodol) was found in both leiomyomas and myometrium on CT scan for 45 cases on the first day of UAE. CT scan also showed the deposit of the Lipiodol in myometrium, but Lipiodol gradually vanished in leiomyomas at one, three and the twelve months after UAE. The enhancement was apparent in leiomyomas and myometrium on MRI scan in all 45 cases before UAE. The enhancement was found in the myometrium, but not in leiomyomas, on MRI scan in 39 cases 3 months after UAE. The other six cases demonstrated different degrees of enhancement in leinmyomas after embolization. In two cases the detachment of the leiomyomas were observed after embolization and the desquamating materials were pathologicallyproved to be necrotic tissue. The difference in the measuring data about leiomyoma volume between MPI and color Doppler sonography was of no statistical significance (P > 0.05). Conclusion The therapeutic mechanism of UAE for uterine leiomyomas is selectively embolizing the vascular bed of uterus, leading to subsequent necrosis of leiomyomas. The color Doppler sonography should be the fast choice for the dynamic imaging follow-up after UAE.

8.Detection and clinical significance of peripheral blood hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)

Objective To measure the number of peripheral blood CD34+ hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSC/HPCs) and membrane expression of CD34 on these cells in patients with SLE. Methods Lymphocytes were isolated from peripheral blood of 30 patients with SLE and 14 normal human controls. Flow cytometry using FITC-labeled antibodies was performed to determine the percentage of CD34+ HSC/HPCs and mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) of CD34 on these cells. Their correlation with clinical data was analyzed.Results The percentage of CD34+ HSC/HPCs in peripheral lymphocytes was (0.15 ± 0.10)% and (0.09 ±0.07)% in active and stable SLE patients, respectively, significantly lower than that in normal controls [(0.37 +0.17)%, F = 17.18, P < 0.01], however, there was no significant difference between active and stable SLE patients (t = 1.51, P> 0.05). The MFI of CD34 was higher in active SLE patients than in the normal controls (41.35 ± 19.24 vs. 27.43 ± 7.57, F= 3.13, P < 0.05), but no difference was observed between stable SLE patients and normal controls (F= 3.13, P > 0.05). In patients with SLE, the percentage of CD34+ HSC/HPCs was negatively correlated with serum IgG levels (r = -0.588, P < 0.01 ), but uncorrelated with SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI) or serum levels of complement, anti-dsDNA antibodies, anti-C1q antibodies, antinucleosome antibodies, etc. Conclusions The count of CD34+ HSC/HPCs is reduced while the MFI of CD34 antigen is elevated in SLE patients, hinting that there is a functional abnormality of HSC/HPCs in SLE patients, which may be involved in the pathogenesis of SLE.
9.The clinical significance of peripheral blood hematopoietic stem/progenitor cell in patients with rheumatoid arthritis

Objective To measure the number of peripheral blood CD34+ hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSC/HPC) expression of CD34 in the peripheral blood of patients with rheumatoid arthritis and exploreits relationship with clinical manifestations. Methods CD34+ HSC/HPCs in the peripheral blood of RA patients (n=32) and healthy controls (n=16) were detected using flow cytometry. The relationship between the frequency of HSC/HPCs, mean fluorescence intensities (MFI) of CD34 and clinical manifestations and rheumatoid factor (RF), anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) antibodies, disease activity score (DAS) 28,X rays stages and healthy assessment questionnaire (HAQ) were analyzed. Student's t-test and pearont test were used for statistical analysis. Results Frequency of CD34+ HSC/HPC in the peripheral blood of RA patients was decreased compared with normal controls [ (0.13±0.09)% vs (0.38±0.21)%, P<0.05 ], CD34 MFIwere higher in RA patients than those in the normal controls (57±33 vs 3111, P<0.05). The frequency was positively correlated with the number of (RBC red blood cell), (Hb hemoglobin), and was negatively correlated with C-reactive protein (CRP), and the MFI of RA patients was positively correlated with healthy assessment questionnaire (HAQ) and X ray stages, but negatively correlated with the number of platelets.Conclusion CD34+ HSC/HPC of the peripheral blood of RA patients are significantly abnormal, which is characterized by decreased CD34+ hematopoietic stem cell, and the decrease is positively correlated with RBC and Hb, but negatively correlated with CRP. CD34+ hematopoietic stem cell may play an important role in the pathogenesis of RA.
