1.Correlation between the severity of knee osteoarthritis and levels of chemerin in serum and synovia
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2015;(2):177-181
BACKGROUND:Studies have found that after stimulation, chemerin can further amplify the inflammatory signal, resulting in the release of inflammatory factors and matrix metaloproteinases. It indicates that chemerin may serve as an important regulator of cartilage metabolism, and plays an important role in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis. OBJECTIVE: To explore the correlation between level of chemerin in synovia and serum and severity of knee osteoarthritis. METHODS: Eighty patients with knee osteoarthritis were enroled in the study. Knee osteoarthritis grading was evaluated according to the Kelgren-Lawrence classification. Chemerin levels in synovia and serum were examined with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The level of chemerin in synovia and serum in patients with knee osteoarthritis were positively correlated with the Kelgren-Lawrence classification (r=0.981,P< 0.001;r=0.901,P < 0.001). And there was a positive correlation between the level of chemerin in synovia and in serum (r=0.596,P < 0.01). Experimental findings suggest that the levels of chemerin in synovial fluid and serum that are positively correlated with the Kelgren-Lawrence classification can be used as a reference biomarker of severity of knee osteoarthritis.

Objective To improve the preoperative diagnosis accuracy of cerebellopontine angle tumors through analyzing MRI findings. Methods Ninety-six cases with cerebellopontine angle tumors, confirmed by pathology and surgery, were collected and underwent MRI scan plus enhanced MRI. Among the 96 capes, we observed acoustic neurinoma in 55 cases, meningioma in 20 cases, cholesteatoma in 9 cases, trigeminal neuroma in 7 cases, cavernous hemangioma in 3 cases, arachnoid cyst in 2 cases. The MRI characteristics of all cases were analyzed retrospectively. Results The chief type of tumor happened in the cerebellopontine angle zone was acoustic neurinoma, followed in order by meningioma, cholesteatoma, trigeminal neuroma, cavernous hemangioma and arachnoid cyst. The accuracy of preoperative localization and qualitative diagnosis were 100% and 94.7%respectively.Conclusion MRI has a high value in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of cerebellopontine angle tumors, which can be used as a preferred preoperative examination method in cerebellopontine angle tumors.

Objective To investigate the effects and significance of neuronavigation and electrocorticography monitoring in resection of eloquent brain glioma. Methods Thirty-six cases with intracranial tumors accepted microneurosurgery resection under neuronavigation and electrocorticography monitoring. The clinical data and postoperative outcome were analyzed. Results The mean registration error was (2.0 ±0. 5)mm in all operations and all skin flaps and bone windows designed by neuronavigation could fit the operation demands. Total resectin of the tumor was achieved in 31 cases and subtotal resection in 5 cases. Neurological symptoms improved and no severe complications or death happened in all patients. Conclusion Neuronavigation combined with electrocorticography monitoring can accurately locate the eloquent glioma and retrieve the brain shift. This method is a real-time technique and has functional test ability. It can improve the total removal rate and decrease the mortality and disabled rate.

Objective To investigate the effects and possible mechanisms of ursolic acid (UA) on inhibiting proliferation of human esophageal carcinoma cell Eca-109 and inducing its apoptosis. Methods Cell proliferation was determined by MTT assay. Electron microscope was used to observe the ultrastructural changes of Eca-l09 induced by UA. Cell cycle and apoptotic rate were analyzed by flow cytometry (FCM),and the expression of P27kip1,Bcl-2 and Bax were detected by Western blot method. Results UA could significantly inhibit the growth of Eca-109 cells(P

BACKGROUND:Lateral retinacular release is effective to treat anterior knee pain, but it has not been confirmed through the parameters of the knee joint. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the relevant parameters on the axial X-ray films of the patela before and after lateral retinacular release and then to find out the efficient parameters for patelofemoral joint disorders on the axial X-ray film of the patela, which are of most clinical significance. METHODS: Fifty patients with anterior knee pain were included randomly who admitted at the Department of Joint Surgery, Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical University from February 2009 to December 2013, including 45 cases of Outerbridge I-III undergoing arthroscopic lateral retinacular release+articular cartilage repair and 5 cases of Outerbridge IV undergoing lateral retinacular release+knee joint surface replacement. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:After lateral retinacular release, the congruence angle, patelofemoral index and tilt angle were al reduced significantly (P < 0.05 orP < 0.01), but there was no change in the lateral patelofemoral angle (P > 0.05). The patelar trajectory restored to the corresponding central position of the femoral condyle, and meanwhile, no joint hematoma, deep vein thrombosis and patelar subluxation occurred. These findings indicate that the lateral retinacular release is of great significance for treatment of anterior knee pain induced by lateral patelofemoral compression.

ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on mRNA expression of iron metabolism related genes. Methods Ten male mice (2 months) were injected intraperitoneally with lipopolysaccharide(0.5 μg/g). After 6 hours, mice were sacrificed and then sera, liver and spleen were collected. The mice blood routine was measured. The serum iron and total iron binding capacity (TIBC) were determined with reagent kit. The quasi-quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was performed for mRNA of hepatic hepcidin(HP), ferroportin1(Fpn1), transferrin receptor 1(TfR1) and spleenic HP, Fpn1 and interleukin-6(IL-6). Results The serum iron and TIBC were reduced in mice injected LPS, which exhibited mild anemia(P<0.05) . LPS can increase the expression of hepatic hepcidin and decrease Fpn1 and TfR1 in liver after LPS administration 6 hours(P<0.05). In spleen, IL-6 was upregulated and Fpn1 downregulated(P<0.05). Conclusion LPS can influence serum iron through regulating the mRNA expression of hepatic and spleenic iron metabolism related genes, such as HP, Fpn1 and TfR1.
