ObjectiveTo investigate the influence of gender and psychosocial parameters on the quality of life in patients with irritable bowel syndrome(IBS). MethodsOut-patients from Jan to Oct 2008 in the Department of Gastroenterology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University were enrolled. Based on Rome teria IBS was diagnosed. Interviewed by a GI physician with questionnaire of demographic data,Zung self-rating anxiety and depression scale(SAS/SDS) and IBS-specific quality of life(IBS-QOL) questionnaire. Results452 patients were diagnosed as IBS according to Rome Ⅲ criteria. IBS was more common in female. In male, anxiety and depression scales were significantly increased( t =7. 191、6. 459 ,P < 0. 01 ) and the scale of IBS-QOL was significantly decreased ( t =9.119, P < 0.01 ) in female IBS patients. In IBS patients, IBS-QOL scales were negatively associated with the anxiety and depression scales(P <0. 01 ). ConclusionThese results suggest that there were gender differences in psychological status and quality of life in IBS patients, and difference psychological status based on gender should influence the quality of life of patients with IBS.

Objective To explore the characteristics of the changes of several metabolic and biochemical indices in dogs with both hindlimbs injured by kinetic weapon. Methods 12 animals were divided into 4 groups (Group Ⅰ, injured by regular weapon; Group Ⅱ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ injured by imitative kinetic weapons with different energy respectively). Levels of plasma Na+,Ca2+,K+ glucose, AMY, LDH, CK and serum T3,insulin,TSH were determined before and after injured. Results ①Local wounding conditions and distant organs' injuries in group Ⅱ,Ⅲ, and Ⅳ were more serious than those in group Ⅰ. ②Levels of plasma glucose in group Ⅱ,Ⅲ and Ⅳ were inereased significantly after injury than before(P<0.05), but not in group Ⅰ. Levels of Na+,Ca2+,K+,AMY,LDH in 4 groups had similar changes after injury while levels of CK in group Ⅱ,Ⅲ and Ⅳ were inereased significantly than that in group Ⅰ (P<0.05). ③After injury, levels of T3 in serum of all animals showed a decreased tendency and that of insulin decreased more significantly (P<0.05). There was no difference between every two groups. Levels of TSH in group Ⅱ,Ⅲ and Ⅳ were increased significantly after injured than before (P<0.05), but not in group Ⅰ. Conclusion Not only local severe injury but also more serious injury in distant organs and more obvious changes of metabolic and biochemical indices can be induced by kinetic weapons than regular weapons.

Objective: To compare root canal transportation and centering ability of TF Adaptive (TFA), Reciproc (R) and Pro Taper Next (PTN) . Methods: 30 single rooted premolars extracted from orthodontic treatment were randomly divided into 3 groups (n = 10) and prepare by TFA, R and PTN Respectively. The teeth were scanned by Micro-CT before and after instrumentation. The images were reconstructed and exported to Adobe Photo-shop software for analysis. Canal transportation and centering change were determined accordingly. SPSS19. 0 software was used to analyze the data. Results: There was no statistical difference in canal transportation and centering ability for coronal and middle root canal among the 3 groups (P> 0. 05) ; for root apical, the canal transportation in group TFA was the smallest, followed by PTN group, that of group R was the largest (between each 2 groups, P < 0. 05), the centering ability of TFA group was the best, followed PTN group, that of group R was the last (between each 2 groups, P < 0. 05) . Conclusion:TFA Ni-Ti instrument is superior to Reciproc and Pro Taper Next for the maintenance of the original orientation of the root canal in root canal preparation.

OBJECTIVETo compare the bactericidal efficacy of two different cold plasma (glow discharge and dielectric barrier discharge) treatments on root canal infected with Enterococcus faecalis biofilms in vitro.
METHODSOne hundred and twenty teeth infected with Enterococcus faecalis biofilm in the roots for seven days were divided into twelve groups randomly. Two served as negative control group (gas only, no discharge). Five were teeth treated by dielectric barrier discharge cold plasma and the other five were treated by glow discharge cold plasma. The treatment time in each five groups was 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 min, respectively. The disinfection of Enterococcus faeccalis biofilm was evaluated by colony forming unit (CFU) counting. The plasma component produced by different devices was analyzed by optical emission spectroscopy (OES).
RESULTSComparing the two plasma treatments, the plasma produced by dielectric barrier discharge had better bactericidal effect than that produced by glow discharge at different treatment time (P < 0.05). The advantage was obvious with the time getting longer. The OES indicated that active components of the two type plasmas were similar. But the peak of excited Ar atom of dielectric barrier discharge was twice as that of glow discharge.
CONCLUSIONThe cold plasma produced by dielectric barrier discharge has more bactericidal efficiency in the treatment of root canal infected with Enterococcus faecalis biofilms.

OBJECTIVETo assess the clinical efficacy of retrograde puncture subintimal angioplasty (SIA) for treatment of occlusive diseases in the long segment of the infrapopliteal artery.
METHODSThe clinical data of 50 patients with occlusive diseases in the long segment of the infrapopliteal artery were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into control group (n=25) and study group (n=25) and received antegrade SIA and retrograde puncture SIA with long balloon after the failed antegrade SIA, respectively. The ankle brachial index (ABI) and the temperature of the infrapopliteal skin before and after the operation were compared between the two groups.
RESULTSThe technical success rate was 100% in the 50 patients, who showed obviously improved ischemic symptoms without serious complications. The ABI of the study group increased from 0.31 ± 0.12 before the treatment to 0.47 ± 0.09 at 24 h, 0.56 ± 0.06 at 1 week, 0.63 ± 0.07 at 3 months, 0.58 ± 0.06 at 6 months, and 0.49 ± 0.03 at 12 months after the treatment, and the skin temperature increased from 28.13 ± 2.45 before the operation to 33.87 ± 1.24, 34.16 ± 0.44, 34.19 ± 0.25, 32.45 ± 0.25, and 31.05 ± 0.21 at the corresponding time points after the treatment, respectively, showing significant improvements after the operation (P<0.05). ABI, skin temperature and the patency rate were similar between the two groups at each of the postoperative time points (P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONRetrograde puncture SIA is safe and effective for treatment of arteriosclerosis obliterans in the infrapopliteal arteries with a high clinical success rate and a low complication rate after the failure of antegrade SIA.
