CXCR4, a receptor for stromal cell-derived factor-1 (SDF-1, also know as CXCL12) and a member of the chemokine receptor family, has been shown to play an important role in the proliferation, migration, invasion and metastasis of breast cancer cells. CXCR4 expression is an early event in breast cancer development and may serve as a biomarker for early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. Expression of CXCR4 has been demonstrated to correlate with metastasis and poor prognosis in breast cancer. Inhibition of CXCR4 expression may be a potential target of breast cancer treatment.

For energy security, air pollution concerns, coupled with the desire to sustain the agricultural sector and revitalize the rural economy, many countries have applied ethanol as oxygenate or fuel to supplement or replace gasoline in transportation sector. Because of abundant feedstock resources and effective reduction of green-house-gas emissions, the cellulosic ethanol has attracted great attention. With a couple of pioneers beginning to produce this biofuel from biomass in commercial quantities around the world, it is necessary to solve engineering problems and complete the economic assessment in 2015-2016, gradually enter the commercialization stage. To avoid "competing for food with humans and competing for land with food", the 1st generation fuel ethanol will gradually transit to the 2nd generation cellulosic ethanol. Based on the overview of cellulosic ethanol industrialization from domestic and abroad in recent years, the main engineering application problems encountered in pretreatment, enzymes and enzymatic hydrolysis, pentose/hexose co-fermentation strains and processes, equipment were discussed from chemical engineering and biotechnology perspective. The development direction of cellulosic ethanol technology in China was addressed.

Chinese Journal of Hepatobiliary Surgery 2014;20(9):694-696
Colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) are one of the main causes of death among the patients with colorectal cancer, yet most patients with CRLM are unable to get radical resection.Fortunately, thermal ablation can yield long-term survival efficacy in this population of CRLM patients.Currently, thermal ablation is the first-line treatment among other ablation technologies, including radiofrequency ablation and microwave ablation (MWA).However, recent advancements in microwave ablation techniques increase consideration of this method in the treatment of CRLM,such as:reliable, fast, efficient and rarely affected by heat-sink effect. This article aims to review the mechanism, efficacy, complications of MWA in treating CRLM.

Objective In order to determine the effect of colchicine(Col) on the changes of serum activity of tumour necrosis factor (TNF) induced by lipopolysaccharide(LPS) in rabbits. Methods Twelve New Zealand white rabbits were equally divided into 2 groups, namely group A and group B. Rabbits in group A were intravenously administered with 0.2ml/ kg of normal saline (NS) from 67h before LPS inje ction, while those in group B were given 0.5mg/ kg of Col instead of NS at the same time course.Endotoxic shock was induced by intravevous injection of 2?g/ kg of LPS after the challenge by Bacillus Calmette Gu?rin(BCG). Results Prior infusion of Col significantly decreased the peak levels of serum TNF activity ( P

Objective To observe the expression change of HRG-1 gene between urinary bladder carcinoma and normal tissues, and to investigate the effect of HRG-1-siRNA on the proliferation and apoptosis of human bladder carcinoma cells. Methods Immunohistochemisty was used to detect the expression of HRG-1 in 85 cases of bladder carcinomas and 20 normal bladder tissues. The siRNA of HRG-1 was designed, synthesized, and transfected into bladder cancer cell line T24.Results The HRG-1 gene expression had significant differences between bladder carcinoma and normal bladder tissues (P < 0.05).The positive expression of HRG-1 gene had significant differences between the pathological grades and clinical stages of bladder carcinomas (P <0.05).After treated with siRNA,the expression levels of HRG-1 protein and mRNA in T24 cells decreased obviously (P < 0.05).The apoptosis rate of T24 cells transfected with HRG-1-siRNA was significantly different from control-siRNA group and blank group (P < 0.01).Conclusions The high expression of HRG-1 gene may play an important role in bladder carcinoma, and siRNA targeting HRG-1 can suppress HRG-1 protein expression markedly and enhance apoptosis of T24 cells.

Journal of Chinese Physician 2012;(12):1585-1588
Objective To explore the expression of a new candidate tumor suppressor N-myc downstream regulated gene 2 (NDRG2) in bladder cancer tissues and to investigate its clinical and pathological significance. Methods Formalin-fixed,paraffin-embedded tissue sections from 62 cases of bladder carcinomas and 10 cases of normal bladder tissues were analyzed retrospectively with immunohistochemistry (S-P method). Results The NDRG2 gene was highly expressed in normal bladder tissues, but low expressed in bladder carcinoma tissues.Positive expression of NDRG2 was detected in 8 of the 10 (80.0%) normal tissues and 40.3% in bladder carcinoma ones (x2 =3.98,P <0.05).Furthermore,with the degree of malignancy increased, the positive expression of NDRG2 in bladder carcinoma samples was decreased. The expression of NDRG2 in bladder carcinoma was negatively correlated(r =-0.288,P <0.05) with C-myc(r =-0.436,P <0.01) and positively correlated with p53 in bladder carcinoma tissues(r =0.717,P <0.01).Conclusions The level of NDRG2 expression was lower in bladder carcinomas than in normal tissues.NDRG2 may play an important role in bladder carcinogenesis and in the progress of bladder cancers.
