Objective To study the effect of transcatheter arterial chemoembolizafion (TACE) on inhibitor apoptosis protein-Survivin, Survivin mRNA and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). Methods Group A of hepatocelluar carcinoma with preoperative TACE (n = 26), group B of hepatocelluar carcinoma without any interven-tional therapy (n = 30) ,group C of Normal liver (n = 16) were divided. The expression of Survivin mRNA and the expression of Survivin and PCNA were detected. Result ①The positive Survivin mRNA expression in group A and the grey difference were lowere than that in group B (P < 0.05) ; ②The positive Survivin expression and the grey difference in group A were lower than that in group B (P < 0.05) ; ③The proliferating index (PI) of carcinoma tis-sure in group B was higher in group A and group C (P < 0.05 for each). Conclusion There is a high positive ex-pression of Survivin mRNA and Survivin, which may be decreased by TACE and then the proliferation of hepatocellu-lar carcinoma cell is surpressed.

Objective To compare suture bridge and single row techniques in repair of rotator cuff tears in a rabbit model.Methods Seventy-six mature male New Zealand white rabbits were used in this study.The 12-month old rabbits,weighing from 2.5 to 3.0 kg (average,2.8 kg),were made models of full-thickness rotator cuff tear by cutting off at the foot print the supraspinatus tendon.The models were randomly divided into 2 even groups (n =38 each).Their right shoulders were repaired by suture bridge and single row techniques respectively in the 2 groups,with their left shoulders untreated as controls.The rabbits were then sacrificed at the 2nd,4th and 8th weeks after surgery for histological comparisons of healing under microscopy.Biomechanical comparisons were made at the 8th week to analyze advantages and disadvantages of the two methods.Results At 2,4 and 8 weeks postoperatively,there were no significant differences between the anterior and middle 1/3 zones of bone-tendon junction regarding cartilage growth or collagen fiber morphology in the suture bridge group,while the cartilage growth and collagen fiber morphology in the middle 1/3 zone of bone-tendon junction were significantly more mature than in the anterior 1/3 zone in the single row group.At the 8th postoperative week,the load to failure in the suture bridge group (134.59 ± 17.69 N) was significantly higher than that in the single row group (72.23 ± 12.08 N) (P ＜ 0.05),but remained significantly lower than that in the control group (192.61 ± 9.42 N) (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion The suture bridge technique is a feasible and reliable method for repair of rotator cuff tear and has a better healing effect than the single row technique.

Objective To investigate the effect of rosiglitazone (ROS),a peroxisome poliferator- activated receptor (PPAR)?ligand,combined with all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) on anti-angiogenesis of transplanted gastric cancer in nude mice,and to explore the mechanism of anti-angiogenesis prelimina- rily.Methods The model of xenograft tumor in nude mice were established by inoculating human gastric cancer cells line MGC803 (lower differentiated) into the back of nude mice subcutaneously.The cancer- bearing nude mice were divided randomly into 5 groups:group 1 (n=6) with no treatment;ROS treat- ment (group 2,n=6),ROS combined ATRA treatment including:low dose treatment (group 3,n= 6),moderate dose treatment (group 4,n=6) and high dose treatment (group 5,n=6).After treated for forty days,the volume change of tumor and tumor inhibition rates were observed.The expression of CD34,vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in grafts were detected by immunohistochemical and calculated the difference of MVD.The mRNA expression levels of VEGF,HIF-l?were detected by RT- PCR assay accordingly.Results①The volume of tumor was significantly decreased in ROS treatment group compared with group 1 (P＜0.01).The tumor inhibition rates of group 2 were similar to group 3 (P＞0.05).With the increasing of the dose of ROS the tumor inhibition rates were increased.They were dose-dependent in specified dose-range.②ROS could inhibit angiogenesis of xenograft tumor and depress expression of mRNA of VEGF and HIF-l?.When ROS combined with ATRA,the increasing of dose of ROS,inhibiting angiogenesis of tumor and depressing expression of mRNA of VEGF and HIF-l?were found (P＜0.05).Conclusion ROS (25 mg?kg?2 d~(-1)) can inhibit the growth of tumor,and ROS combined with ATRA can further inhibit the growth of tumor,which may be through the path of PTEN by inhibiting the angiogenesis of tumor

Objective To determine the expression of endothelin in kidneys of rats with unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO). Methods Rats were evenly divided into two groups. Some were subjected to complete ligation of left ureter and the others with sham operation were used as control group.Four weeks later, we examined the mRNA expressions of ET-1 in kidneys of all these rats using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method.The immunohistochemistry analysis was carried out to investigate the protein level of ET-1. The urinary concentration of ET-1 was determined by radioimmunoassay.Results In UUO group, the urinary concentration of ET-1 increased substantially;both gene expression and protein level of ET-1 were much higher than those in control group. At the same time, tubulointerstitial fibrosis was present in the kidneys of rats with UUO. Conclusion ET-1 is involved in the pathogenesis of the injury of UUO.

Objective　To study the predictability, stability and safety of laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for myopia.Methods　 Five hundred and Sixty-five eyes ( 293 patients ) were treated with the SCMD corneal shaper and laser sight Compak - 200 excimer laser and followed up for more than 6 months. These eyes were divided into 4 groups according to the degrees of myopia: Group Ⅰ:-1.50～-5.75D,120 eyes; Group Ⅱ:-6.00～-9.75D,230 eyes; Group Ⅲ:-10.00～-14.75D,148 eyes and croup Ⅳ:-15.00～-26.00D,67 eyes.Results　Six months post-operatively, mean uncorrected visual acuity of each group was 1.15±0.20, 0.92±0.22, 0.69±0.24 and 0.44±0.22 respectively; The uncorrected visual acuity of 0.5 or better was 100%, 94.6%, 85.8% and 47.7% respectively; And 1.0 or better was 91.7%, 56.7%, 18.0% , 0% respectively. Mean spherical equivalent of each group was -0.14D±0.61D, -0.43D±1.20D, -0.57D±1.47D and -1.79D±2.57D respectively. There were no serious complications. Conclusion　 LASIK is an effective and safe method for reducing myopia. But the potential complications should be noticed.

OBJECTIVE:To observe the effects of Gegenqinlian colon positioning tablet(GGQLJC)on colon tissue PPAR-γ, NF-κB p65 protein expressions of model rabbits with damp-heat type ulcerative colitis(UC). METHODS:56 rabbits were random-ly divided into normal group(normal saline),model group(normal saline),sulfasalazine tablet(SASP)group(positive control, 0.300 g/kg),Gegenqinlian tablet (GGQL) group (0.225 g/kg) and GGQLJC high-dose,medium-dose,low-dose groups (1.036, 0.518,0.259 g/kg),8 in each group. Except for normal group,rabbits in other groups were cultured for damp-heat-type UC mod-el,intragastrically administrated in the second day of last administration,once a day,for 14 d. Disease activity index(DAI),co-lonic mucosal damage index (CMDI),histological damage (TDI) were scored;colon,spleen and thymus indexes were deter-mined;PPAR-γ,NF-κB p65 protein expressions in colon tissue were detected. RESULTS:Compared with normal group,DAI, CMDI,TDI scores and spleen index,colon index,NF-κB p65 protein level in colon tissue in model group were significantly in-creased(P<0.01);thymus index,PPAR-γprotein level in colon tissue were significantly reduced(P<0.01). Compared with mod-el group,above-mentioned indexes in each administration group were significantly improved (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Compared with GGQL group,DAI and TDI scores,spleen index,colon index,NF-κB p65 protein level in colon tissue in SASP group, GGQLJC high-dose,medium-dose groups were significantly decreased (P<0.05);PPAR-γ protein level in colon tissue in SASP group,GGQLJC high-dose,medium-dose groups were significantly increased (P<0.05 or P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS:GGQLJC has certain improvement effects on model rabbits with damp-heat type UC,which is superior to GGQL. The mechanism may be re-lated to increasing PPAR-γprotein level and decreasing NF-κB p65 protein level in colon tissue.

Large amount of data including chemical composition and size information of individual particles would be generated in the measurement of aerosol particles using atmospheric aerosol time-of-flight mass spectrometry ( ATOFMS ) . Our home-made ATOFMS was used to measure the indoor individual aerosol particles in real-time for 24 h, and the obtained mass spectrometric data were clustering analysis by self-organizing map ( SOM ) because of its ability of vector quantization and data dimensionality reduction. 20 classification results were got which includedCalcium-Containing,Salt+Secondary particles,Secondary particles,Organic Amines,K+-Rich Organics andSoil particles, etc. Compared with previous mass spectrometric methods, SOM is a natural visualization tool, more classification results can be obtained. This classification information would be useful to assess the response and toxicity of atmospheric aerosol particles and identify the origin of atmospheric aerosol particles.
