Objective To compare the clinical efficacy and safety between percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) and conservative treatment for osteoporosis vertebral compression fracture (OVCF).Methods A total of 55 patients undergoing PVP and 65 patients with conservative treatment for OVCF in our hospital from 2006 to 2011 were retrospectively analysed. The degree of pain and personal life before treatment and after treatment at different time points were investigated by visual analogue scale (VAS) pain scale and Oswestry Disability Index (ODD.Results The degree of pain in lower back was reduced after the treatment. The VAS pain scales in PVP group versus control group were (8.3±0.5) vs.(8.50.6),(6.9±0.7) vs.(4.5±0.7),(5.40.6) vs.(3.4±0.5),(4.8±0.3) vs.(2.8±0.5),(4.0±0.4) vs.(2.3±0.4),(3.1±0.5) vs.(2.0±0.2)before treatment and 1 week,1,3,6 and 12 months after treatment, respectively. The VAS pain scales were reduced more rapidly in PVP group than in control group, showing a better relief of pain. There were differences in VAS pain scales between the two groups at different time points (t=17.89,19.74,28.38,24.49,14.01,respectively,all P<0.01).The ODI scores in PVP group and control group were [(88.8±5.0) vs.(87.2±5.1)],[(72.6±7.8) vs.(53.1±6.3)],[(62.0±8.5) vs.(37.2±6.0)],[(47.1±12.6) vs.(26.5±3.6)],[(36.7±9.3) vs.(17.9±5.5)],[(24.3±10.0) vs.(9.4±2.5)] before treatment and 1 week,1,3,6 and 12 months after treatment, respectively. The ODI scores were reduced more rapidly in PVP group than in control group, showing a better recovery of daily life. There were differences in ODI scores between the two groups at different time points (t=15.00,18.17,11.74,13.20,10.72,respectively,all P<0.01).Conclusions PVP can alleviate pain and restore daily life rapidly. It shows advantages in rccovery of the fractured vertebrae height.

Objective To study the changes of heart rate variability (HRV) and the effects of treatment with nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) in elderly patients with sleep apnea/ hypopnea syndrome (SAHS). Methods SAHS patients and controls were examined by polysomnography(PSG) and dynamic cardiograph(DCG). Mean RR interval(Mean RRi), standard deviation of RR interval (SDRRi), low frequency(LF), high frequency(HF) and their ratio(LF/HF) were calculated. Results When compared with controls(847.9?113.8)ms vs (45.7?16.2) ms, there was significantly decrease in the Mean RRi and SDRRi in moderate, severe elderly patients and non-elderly SAHS patients(764.3?131.0)ms, (709.4?101.8)ms, (759.5?80.0)ms and (37.5?12.2)ms, (31.5?9.6)ms, (41.4?10.6)ms. There was statistical differences in LF, HF, and LF/HF between elderly and non-elderly severe SAHS (P

OBJECTIVE: To search for ideal bone graft substitute. METHODS: The beta TCP/rhBMP-2 composite was constructed by combining beta-Tricalcium phosphat (beta-TCP) that was prepared by the authors with recombinant human morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) and was implanted into the muscle pouches in the thigh of mice. beta-TCP alone was implanted on the opposite side as controls. At intervals of 1,3,7,14 and 28 days after the implantation, the specimens were obtained, and histologic study and alkaline phosphatase assay (7,14,28 days) were performed. RESULTS: There was a large amount of cartilage and bone formation within the composite, increasing with time; whereas there was no new bone formation where beta-TCP alone was implanted. Besides, the levels of alkaline phosphatase in the beta-TCP/rhBMP-2 implants also were increasing with time and were higher than those in controls. CONCLUSIONS: The results indicate that beta-TCP/rhBMP-2 composite possesses heterotopic osteoinductive potential.

Objective:To understand the epidemiological characteristics of human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) among acute respiratory infection (ARI) cases in 16 provinces of China from 2009 to 2023.Methods:The data of this study were collected from the ARI surveillance data from 16 provinces in China from 2009 to 2023, with a total of 28 278 ARI cases included in the study. The clinical specimens from ARI cases were screened for HRSV nucleic acid from 2009 to 2023, and differences in virus detection rates among cases of different age groups, regions, and months were analyzed. Results:A total of 28 278 ARI cases were enrolled from January 2009 to September 2023. The age of the cases ranged from<1 month to 112 years, and the age M ( Q1, Q3) was 3 years (1 year, 9 years). Among them, 3 062 cases were positive for HRSV nucleic acid, with a total detection rate of 10.83%. From 2009 to 2019, the detection rate of HRSV was 9.33%, and the virus was mainly prevalent in winter and spring. During the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the detection rate of HRSV fluctuated between 6.32% and 18.67%. There was no traditional winter epidemic peak of HRSV from the end of 2022 to the beginning of 2023, and an anti-seasonal epidemic of HRSV occurred from April to May 2023. About 87.95% (2 693/3 062) of positive cases were children under 5 years old, and the difference in the detection rate of HRSV among different age groups was statistically significant ( P<0.001), showing a decreasing trend of HRSV detection rate with the increase of age ( P<0.001). Among them, the HRSV detection rate (25.69%) was highest in children under 6 months. Compared with 2009-2019, the ranking of HRSV detection rates in different age groups changed from high to low between 2020 and 2023, with the age M (Q1, Q3) of HRSV positive cases increasing from 1 year (6 months, 3 years) to 2 years (11 months, 3 years). Conclusion:Through 15 years of continuous HRSV surveillance analysis, children under 5 years old, especially infants under 6 months old, are the main high-risk population for HRSV infection. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the prevalence and patterns of HRSV in China have changed.

Objective:To clarify the infection and epidemic characteristics of the human metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Chinese patients with febrile respiratory syndrome (FRS), and to provide important baseline data for clinical diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control of HMPV-induced respiratory tract diseases in China. Methods:FRS cases from January 2009 to June 2021 in 9 provinces in China, including Beijing, Hebei, Jilin, Shandong, Shaanxi, Xinjiang, Anhui, Guangdong, Hunan were retrospectively analyzed for their respiratory samples, clinical and epidemic data. The respiratory samples were detected for HMPV by quantitative real-time PCR.Results:A total of 11 660 cases were tested for HMPV, involving 296 (2.54%) HMPV-positive cases.Among 296 HMPV-positive cases, 218 were single HMPV infection, and 78/296 (26.35%) were co-infected with one or more respiratory viruses.HMPV mainly affected children under 5 years of age (3.10%), and in this population, the proportion of pneumonia in HMPV co-infection cases was significantly higher than that of single HMPV infection.HMPV could be detected all year round, which was more popular in winter and spring, with the peak of HMPV epidemic in March. Conclusions:HMPV is one of the important pathogens causing acute respiratory infection in children, showing a clear seasonal epidemic.HMPV can be infected alone or in combination with other respiratory viruses, which may increase the risk of pneumonia in children.
