Total saponins in crude drug and induced callus of Gynostemma pentaphyllum (Thunb. )Mak. grown in Jiangxi Province were analysed by spectrophotometry and TLC. Results sh-owed that the quality and quantity of saponins in crude drugs valicd collsiderably with cu-lture area, the life cycle and their crgans. The quality and quantity of saponins in callusalso varied due to source of clone. It providcd some cvidence for the production and harv-est of G. pentaphyllum.

Objective To observe the effects of hyperventilation on jugular bulb pressure and optic nerve sheath diameter during RALRP. Methods Twenty patients undergoing elective RALRP were enrolled in this study. After hyperventilation of General anesthesia,we monitored and recorded changes of Heart rate(HR),mean arterial pressure (MAP),end-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO2),arterial oxygen tension (PaO2),arterial carbon dioxide tension(PaCO2),peak airway pressure(PIP),JBP and ONSD in 5 minutes after intubation(T0),Trendelenberg posture in 15 minutes (T1),the established pneumoperitoneum in 30,60,90 minutes (T2,T3,T4) and termination of pneumoperitoneum in 15 minutes in supine position(T5)respectively. Results Compared with T0, JBP increased at T1 ~ T5(P < 0.05). ETCO2 and PaCO2 of T1 ~ T5 were lower than those of T0(P < 0.05)during hyperventilation. After establishment of Trendelenburg posture and pneumoperitoneum,PIP values increased at T1~T4 than that at T0 (P < 0.05),However,ONSD increased from T3 to T5 compared with T1 to T2 (P < 0.05). Conclusion Through over-ventilation,pneumoperitoneum and Trendelenburg posture,JBP and PIP can increase, and ONSD becomes wider evendually.

Journal of Practical Stomatology 2009;25(4):597-598
The mandibular canine usually has a single-root with a single canal. A case of a patient who has a mandibular canine with two well-defined roots and two root canals was reported. Size of the lingual root and buccal root was equal. The buccal root length was 24.5 mm. The lingual root length was 23.0 mm. Clinicians should be aware of the anatomical variation that exists in mandibular canines in practice.

Objective To evaluate the value of dual energy CT with Lung Vessels application in diagnosing pulmonary embolism (PE) of children. Methods Forty-seven patients with nephrotic syndrome and aged ≤ 18 years old (32 male,15 female, mean age 15 years) underwent dual-energy CT pulmonary angiography (CTPA).Two radiologists recorded the presence or absence of emboli and counted the clots on a per-patient and per-lobe basis with Lung Vessels, respectively. With conventional CTPA as reference standard, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV),negative predictive value (NPV) of Lung Vessels application to detect PE were computed for two readers.Inter-reader agreement was also calculated. Results Conventional CTPA detected 51 clots in 35 lung lobes in 13 patients, giving PE incidence was 27.6% (13/47) for this cohort. On a per-patient basis, readers 1 and 2 detected 25 and 21 patients with PE with Lung Vessels, corresponding to sensitivities, specificities,PPVs,and NPVs of 100.0% (13/13),58.6% (17/29),43.3% (13/30),100.0% (17/17) and 100.0% (13/13),76.5% (21/29),50.0% (13/26),100.0% (21/21),respectively.On a per-lung lobe basis, readers 1 and 2 detected 74 and 63 clots with Lung Vessels, respectively, corresponding to sensitivities, specificities,PPVs,and NPVs of 94.3% (33/35),79.5% (159/200),44.6% (33/74),98.7% (159/161) and 97.1% (34/36),85.5% (171/200),54.0% (34/63),98.8% (171/173),respectively.On a per-clot basis,134 and 105 clots were detected with Lung Vessels application, corresponding to sensitivities, specificities,PPVs,and NPVs for DECT of 96.1% (49/51),64.9% (159/245),36.3% (49/135),98.7% (159/161) and94.1% (48/51),75.0% (171/228),45.7% (48/105),98.3% (171/174)for readers 1 and 2,respectively.Excellent or good inter-reader agreement was observed on a per-patient,per-lobe and per-clot basis (Kappa =0.828,0.859,0.695 ; all P < 0.01).Conclusions Dual-energyCT with Lung Vessels application has a high sensitivity and negative predictive value for PE detection in children.More clots are detected with Lung Vessels application than conventional CTPA,which deserve further investigation.

This study aimed to optimize the ultrasonic extraction of gardenia oils from Gardenia jasminoides Ellis.by response surface analysis methodology (RSM).The duration of extraction, ratio of liquid to materials and extracting times were selected as impact factors based on single-factor experiment.RSM was adopted to learn the effects of the three factors on the extraction rate of Gardenia oil from Gardeniajasminoides Ellis. As a result,it was found that the duration of extraction was 28.7 min, while the ratio of liquid to materials was 11.62:1,and the number of extracting times were 3.36.Under this extracting condition, the average extraction rate of the oil was 13.5% according to three validation experiments, fitting the predicted value well.In conclusion,it was demonstrated that the ultrasonic extraction method effectively improved the extraction rate of gardenia oil, providing a certain basis for the development and utilization of gardenia oil.

AIM:To set up the fingerprint chromatograms of chemical principles of Fructus Gardeniae in Jiangxi Province by HPLC. METHODS:The chromatographic seperation was performed on an Eclipse XDB-C_(18) column(4.6 mm?250 mm,5 ?m,Agilent) with a mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile-0.1% phosphoric acid, gradient eluent,at the flow rate of 1.0 mL/min.The UV detection was set at the maximum absorption wavelength at 238 nm for iridoid glycosides and at 440 nm for crocins. RESULTS:Based on the fingerprint chromatograms of water-soluble composition of 12 batches Fructus gardeniae in authentic regions of Jiangxi,we have pinpointed 11 common peaks. CONCLUSION:This method can provide a basis for controlling the quality of Fructus gardeniae and be a means of germplasm resources.

OBJECTIVE:To probe into the reasons for drug repercussion in ward area and find a solution.METHODS:The reasons for drug repercussion, the kinds of the returned drugs and the proportion of these drugs in the total in terms of amount of money between Oct.to Dec.in 2006 were analyzed and compared with the amount of money of returned drugs between 2005 and 2006 in our hospital.RESULTS:There were 2 674 cases of drug repercussion between Oct.to Dec.in 2006 in our hospital;the returned drugs totaled 192 kinds, and the drug repercussion was mainly due to patients' discharge, alteration of medical orders and input error. The rate of drug repercussion was 4.67%.CONCLUSION:There were drug repercussion cases in all the departments of our hospital, and the amount of the returned drugs were large, which resulted in increased difficulty of drug quality management and serious hidden dangers for medication safety, therefore, standard administration on which is much needed.
