BACKGROUND: Osteolysis has always occurred in pelvis. Percutaneous injection of bone cement stabilized bone fracture, relieved pain or even treated tumor. However, leakage of bone cement might cause severe complications. OBJECTIVE: To explore the therapeutic effect of peroutaneous injection of bone cement on treating osteolysis pelvic disease in 9 cases by the CT guidance. METHODS: By the CT guidance, needing degree was determined firstly. Focal size and scanning layers were used to calculate focal volume and estimate injected dose of bone cement. Three-dimensional targeting device was used to introduce the puncturation. The bone cement which was 0.2-0.5 mL less than the calculated volume was injected into osteolysis site. The accuracy, injected dose, clinical efficacy, and complications were investigated. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The following-up ranged from 5 months to 4 years, with mean duration of 1.5 years. At 1-48 hours after operation, symptoms were recovered, including complete recovery (n=6), partial recovery (n=2), and light recovery (n=1). Leakage of bone cement was not detected out around focal region. This suggested that percutaneous injection of bone cement into the erosion site is an effective method to treat pelvic osteolysis disease, characterizing by security, effective, and less invasive.

Objective To evaluate the safety and clinical efficacy of the treatment for symptomatic uterine fibroids with MR guided focused ultrasound surgery(MRgFUS)in China. Methods Twenty five selected patients with symptomatic uterine fibroids underwent MRgFUS treatment in our perspective clinical study. Immediately after treatment the patients accepted pelvic enhanced MRI scans, and recorded the non-perfused volume(NPV)and calculated the non-perfused volume ratio(NPV%). We recorded the symptom severity score(SSS) and standard SSS change(ΔSSS)of the patients before, during and 1 week after treatment together with 1, 3, 6, 12 months and several years follow-up. The patients accepted pelvic enhanced MRI scans in the follow-up of 12 months after treatment, and recorded the volume and the volume change(ΔV) of fibroids. We observed the adverse reactions during the treatment and the follow-ups. Wilcoxon test or t test and Pearson or Spearman correlation analysis were used to analyze the data. Results Totally 31 fibroids of 25 patients were completed the treatment. Twenty two patients completed the 12 months follow-up and 15 patients completed the long-term follow-up which was during 34 to 66 months, median follow-up duration was(55 ± 11)months. The NPV was 4.5 to 295.0 cm3, median was 37.0 cm3. The NPV%was 6%to 94%, average was(64 ± 23)%. According to our follow up, the standard SSS continued to decline. Compared with screening standard SSS, all the follow-up standard SSS had significant difference(P<0.05), except for that of the first week. Among all the follow up, only the standard SSS change of 1 week after the treatment had a correlation with NPV%(r=0.552,P=0.005), and the others had no significant correlation with NPV%(P>0.05). The uterine fibroids volume decreased in the 12 months follow-up, which had a significant difference with the volume before treatment(P<0.05). And there was also correlation between the fibroids volume change and NPV(r=0.587,P=0.017). There was no correlation between the volume or volume change and standard SSS or standard SSS change(all P>0.05). None serious adverse effects occurred in all cases. Conclusion MRgFUS is a safe and effective way to treat uterine fibroids.

To indicate the relationship between structure and function of loops from Bacillus thuringiensis insecticidal crystal protein Cry1Ba, and the influence of amino acids mutation on toxicity against diamond back moth Plutella xylostella, five mutations at the loops of Cry1Ba were constructed by overlapping primer PCR, and expressed in E. coli BL21 (DE3). Bioassay results showed that the toxicity of mutation M1 (loop1: 340WSNTR344-deletion), compared with that of Cry1Ba (LC50 0.96 microg/mL), decreased significantly with LC50 35.51 microg/mL. And the toxicity of mutation M2 (402Y-G), M3 (400GIYLEP405-PSAV), M4 (400GIYLEPIH407-ILGS) was also reduced to some extent respectively. Only M5 (mutation at loop3: 472LQSRV476 - AGAVYTL) showed slightly increased activity against P. xylostella, but not significantly (LC50 0.81 microg/mL). Referring to the structures of Cry1Ba which was predicted using Swiss-Model software, and bioassay data, we can conclude that loop1 and loop2 play a important role on determining the activity of Cry1Ba against P. xylostella.

Objective To describe the profile of probiotics utilization in hospitalized pneumonia children and evaluate the ef -fectiveness of probiotics in the treatment of pneumonia in hospitalized children combined with antibiotics. Methods Descriptive data a-nalysis was obtained from the medical records in one children′s hospital in one year period. The clinical data including patient charac-teristics, drug prescribed time, drug use duration, and length of stay was reviewed. Ridit analysis was used to compare the data. Re-sults Data of 2 974 children hospitalized for pneumonia was accessed. Antibiotics were prescribed to 99.1 % ( n=2 948) of pa-tients, probiotics were prescribed to 42.1%(n=1 252) of patients, and both antibiotics and probiotics were prescribed to 41.9%(n=1 246 ). The median of the time to start administration of probiotics was the second day of hospitalization and the mode was the first day of hospitalization. For those patients who were prescribed antibiotics combined with probiotics, the median of the duration of ad-ministration of antibiotics before accepting probiotics was 3 days and the mode was 1 day. After administrating probiotics, the median of the duration of accepting of antibiotics was 5 days, the mode was 4 days, and the median and the mode of the duration of administration of probiotics were 4 days.21%(n=626) of all hospitalized patients were administrated anti-diarrheals.The most common age group of them were neonates and infants (82.3%, n=515).The patients with anti-diarrheal who was administrated antibiotics with or with-out probiotics were 585(47.0%), 34(2.0%), respectively (P<0.05).The median of duration of anti-diarrheals in those adminis-trated antibiotics with probiotics was 4 days, the mode was 3 days and the interquartile range was 2-6 days. For those administrated an-tibiotics without probiotics, the median of duration of anti-diarrheals was 3 days, the mode was 1 day and the interquartile range was 1-6 days (P>0.05).The median of the length of stay in those administrated antibiotics with probiotics was 7 days, the mode was 6 days and the interquartile range was 6-9 days. For those administrated antibiotics without probiotics, the median and the mode of the length of stay were 7 days and the interquartile range was 6-9 days(P>0.05).Conclusion The time of starting to administrate probiotics was mainly within 2 days combined with antibiotics. The aim of prescribed probiotics was prevention of antibiotic-associated diarrhea. There was no significant difference in the duration of the following antibiotic therapy, the duration of anti-diarrhea therapy, the length of stay between those administrated antibiotics combination with or without probiotics.
