Objective To investigate the pathological features of airway remodeling and evaluate interventional effects of nerve growth factor (NGF) on the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), an important mediator of airway remodeling, in guinea pig asthma model. Methods Guinea pigs were randomly divided into the control group, asthma group, and antibody NGF intervention group (each group had 8 guinea pigs). In the asthma group the animals were sensitized by repeated exposure to aerosolized ovalbumin combined with Al(OH)_3. The thickness of the smooth muscle of intrapulmonary bronchi was measured by image analysis system. The expression of MMP-9 in bronchi and lung tissues were assayed with immunohistochemistry combined with the micro-image analysis system. The levels of MMP-9 mRNA in bronchi and lung tissues were determined by RT-PCR. Results After repeated allergen challenge, obvious infiltration of inflammatory cells and proliferation of goblet cells and smooth muscle were demonstrated in guinea pig bronchi. Expression levels of MMP-9 in the epithelial cells of bronchi were significantly higher in asthmatic animals than those of control group animals. Compared with asthmatic group, there was mild inflammation reaction, and decrease in collagen deposition and expression of MMP-9 in antibody NGF group animals, and they were not significantly higher than that in control group animals. Conclusions Repeated exposure of allergen induced airway inflammation and remodeling. MMP-9 plays an important role in airway remodeling. Antibody NGF intervention could inhibit airway remodeling through inhibition of the expression of MMP-9.

Objective To investigate the attentional bias for emotionally faces in subjects with low-trait anxiety when they are under normal or induce-fear emotion.Methods Trait anxiety inquiry(T-AI) were used to evaluate the mental health status of 480 freshman in a university,and 450 valid questionnaires were obtained.Among them,90 students were identified as low trait anxiety.Sixty students from them were randomized into 2 group(n=30) to receive a dot-probe task with emotional face as stimulus.They were asked to judge the target.The attentional bias under normal or fear-induced emotion to the emotionally faces was examined.Results Low trait anxious college students showed attentional avoidance to the negative faces when they were under normal emotion [D=(-11.09?25.40),t=-2.391,P=0.024],and the orientation was significant [OI=(-20.28?22.90),t=-4.850,P0.05].Conclusion Low trait anxious college students have attentional avoidance to negative faces because of orientation,but the avoidance will disappear when they are under fear emotion.

Objective This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of ademetionine 1,4-butanedisulfonate (SMT) against radiation injuries.Methods ICR mice were randomly divided into 7 groups,including normal control,irradiation-only,SMT administration-only,low-,medium-and high-dosages (250,500,1 000 mg·kg-1) of SMT pre-irradiation and high-dose of SMT post-irradiation in experimental groups.Blood and immunological experiments,organs index experiment and 30-day''s survival experiment were carried out to observe the protective effects of SMT on peripheral blood and immune system,organ index and the whole body injuries.Results Compared with irradiation-only group (4.23±1.16) ×109·L-1,the number of nucleated cells in bone marrow was (11.20±4.63) ×109·L-1 in the high dose of SMT pre-irradiation.The difference between two groups was significant.Compared with irradiation-only group (19.25±9.36),the colony forming unit-spleen was (39.00±7.57) in the high-dose SMT pre-irradiation group,there was a significant difference between the two groups.The index of liver,spleen,kidney and pancreas were significantly higher than those of the irradiation-only group in SMT administration groups.The survival rate of mice treated with SMT was increased,especially for the high dose group (46% lifted) when compared with irradiation-only group.Conclusion SMT can protect mice from radiation injuries.

Objective To investigate the effect of health education on enhanced curative effect of motor imagination therapy of patients with hyperbaric oxygen(HBO). Methods Thirty patients undergoing HBO combined with motor imagination therapy were given health education including contents of motor imagination,time for motor imagination,intervention of bad emotions and time for motor imagination after leaving the treatment cabin.The understanding of motor imagination-associated knowledge after education was compared to that before education. Results The understanding of motor imagination-associated knowledge after education was significantly better than before education(χ2=9.017,P=0.003). Conclusion Health education may help improve the curative effect of hypterbaric oxygen treatment(HBO)by way of improving the understanding of motor imagination-related knowledge.

Objective To review the publication of general practice education in China mainland in 20 years from 1993 to 2012.Methods The research articles of general practice education published between January 1,1993 and December 31,2012 were searched from CNKI and Wanfang databases, and analyzed with bibliometric and literature management software NoteExpress 2, Epidata 3.1 and SPSS 13.0.Results Total 4 281 articles were retrieved and 241 education relevant articles were selected.29.9％ (72/241) of the 241 articles were on on-campus education, 67.6％ (163/241) were on continuing medical education and 4.5％ (11/241) were on post-graduation education.As to the published institutions, 58.5％ (141/241) were from the medical colleges and research institutions, 25.7％ (62/241 were from the tertiary hospitals, 3.7％ (9/241) were from primary care institutions, 1.7％ (4/241 were from the secondary hospitals and 5.8％ (14/241) were from the government departments.The general practice education grants increased from 1 in 2001 to 46 in 2012;20 of which were supported by provincial and ministerial level funds.Conclusion The contents of general medical education literature in China is mainly on on-campus education and continuing medical education;most of which were from the tertiary hospitals and the medical colleges and research institutions.The amount of research grants of general practice education were increasing year by year during 1993-2012, indicating that more attention had been paid to general practice education in mainland China in the last two decades.

A method was developed for analyzing the stable carbon isotope ratio of five volatile components ( Ethanol, Glycerol, Acetic acid, Ethyl lactate, 2-methyl-butanol ) in wine using gas chromatography-combustion-isotope ratio mass spectrometer ( GC-C-IRMS ) . The sample injection volume was less than 0. 5 μL, and the analytical time of each run was less than 14 min. The precision of this method was 0. 08‰-0. 25‰ for analyzing standards, while 0. 09‰-0. 36‰ for wine samples. Compared to element analysis-isotope ratio mass spectrometry ( EA-IRMS) results, the deviations were lower than 0. 5‰. Fifty-four wine samples from France, Australia, America and China were considered. The δ13 C of five volatile components were measured using GC-C-IRMS. Discriminant analysis ( DA) was employed for analyzing the geographical origin traceability of selected wine. The result indicated that δ13 C of volatile components could be used to distinguish the origin of wines. The method was shown to be effective in improving detection of the origin traceability of wine.

Objective To study the etiological effect between the spatial variation of lumbar facet orientation and the degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis(DLS)in axial,sagittal and coronal plane.Methods 85 patients with DLS at L4 and 110 controlsreceived X-ray and CT scanning.The facet angle at L4-L5 was measured in axial,sagittal and coronal plane.Results Compared with the control group, the DLS-angles were lesser and the difference between the left and right was greater in axial,coronal plane(P <0.05).But were greater in sagittal plane(P <0.05).Conclusion The DLS-angles are more sagittal in axial plane,more level in sagittal plane and more erect in coronal plane.The change of spatial orientation in the facet joint is one of etiological factors of degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis.

[ ABSTRACT] AIM:To evaluate the effects of 1α, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 on T helper cell 17 ( Th17 cells) and its related cytokines in a mouse model of corneal allograft transplantation.METHODS:C57BL/6 mice were transplanted with corneal grafts from BALB/c mice and treated intraperitoneally with 1.0μg 1α, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 or soybean oil every other day after operation.The transparency of the corneal grafts was evaluated for potential rejection signs by slit lamp biomicroscopy and histopathology.The expression levels of IL-17, RORγt and IFN-γin the spleen were measured by real-time PCR.Moreover, the protein expression of RORγt and IL-17 in the peripheral blood was analyzed by Western blotting. IL-17 and IFN-γin peripheral blood were measured by flow cytometry.RESULTS:1α, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 signifi-cantly inhibited the rejection of the corneal allograft and reduced the numbers of inflammatory infiltrates in the corneal graft. In the spleen, 1α, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 treatment reduced the expression levels of IL-17, RORγt and IFN-γ.In the pe-ripheral blood, 1α, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 treatment downregulated the expression levels of RORγt, IL-17 and IFN-γ. CONCLUSION:The effects of 1α, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 on suppressing corneal transplantation-induced allograft rejec-tion in mice are closely associated with its modulation on IL-17 and related cytokine RORγt.

BACKGROUND: Hyperbaric oxygen(HBO) is the first choice in the treatment of acute carbon monoxide(CO) poisoning. However,the mechanism of HBO in the treatment of CO poisoning,especially the mechanism in the treatmentof CO poisoning-induced delayed encephalopathy,is unclear at present.OBJECTIVE: To observe the pathological changes of hippocampal neurons in rats after acute CO poisoning to investigate the impacts of HBO therapy on Bcl-2 protein expression in hippocampal neurons in rats after CO poisoning.DESIGN: A completely randomized controlled experimental study based on the experimental animals.SETTING: Emergency department in a military medical university of Chinese PLA affiliated hospital,department of laboratory medicine in a municipal hospital,and the center of HBO therapy in a military medical university of Chinese PLA.MATERIALS: The study was conducted in the Laboratory of HBO Therapy Center,Faculty of Aerospace Medicine,the Fourth Military Medical University of Chinese PLA. Sixty male SD rats were selected.INTERVENTIONS: Sixty rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: normal control group(control group),CO poisoning group(CO group),and HBO therapy group(HBO group) with 20 rats each. Rats of each group were exposed under air or CO gas(volume fraction was 3.2 × 10-3) respectively for 60 minutes,and rats of CO-HBO group were treated by HBO. Cerebral pathological slices of hippocampus were prepared for routine HE and Bcl-2 staining to observe the characteristics of the changes of hippocampal neuronal injury and the Bcl-2protein expression on the 1st,3rd,5th and 7th day after CO poisoning.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Changes of pathomorphology and Bcl-2protein expressionRESULTS: It could be seen lot of degenerated and necrotic neurons in hippocampus of rats in CO group. Degenerated and necrotic neurons decreased and the expression of Bcl-2 protein increased in CO-HBO group,especially on the 3rd and 5th day after poisoning( P ＜ 0. 05).CONCLUSION: HBO therapy can promote Bcl-2 protein expression in hippocampus after acute CO poisoning,so it can protect neurons.

BACKGROUND: Many experiments indicate that the angiogenesis of tissue engineered bone graft plays a key role in the osteogenesis.OBJECTIVE: An experimental pattern was set up designed to prepare a kind of vascularized engineered-bone graft for repairing rhesus tibia defects and analyze the relation of angiogenesis and osteogenesis in vivo by rontgenographic and morphological approaches.DESIGN: Random controlled animal experiment.SETTING: Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University.MATERIALS: The composite graft was constructed by seeding the induced bone marrow stem cells (BMSCs) on to a beta-tricalcium phosphate(3-TCP) scaffold in vitro, a circular cylinder (20 mm × 8 mm diameter) with a slit (width 2 mm and length 3 mm ) open to both ends and slot. Porosity 60% and pore diameter 100-150 μm. Twenty-nine healthy rhesuses aged 4-5 years and weighted 3.5-5 kg were adopted without gender limitation.METHODS: The experiment was conducted in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Nanfan Hospital, Southern Medical University from October 2003 to July 2005. ①Bone-periosteum defect of 20 mm was made in the middle part of right tibia of the 27 rhesuses, and randomly divided into 3 groups equally. ②The defect gaps in fascia-blood vessel group (A) were plugged with in vitro engineered composites constructed by bone marrow stem cells and 3-TCP scaffold, which were totally hugged by a sheet of pedicled deep fascia and additionally a corresponding portion of saphenous artery and veins. The gaps in fascia group (B) and control group(C), however, were inserted with fascia-coated tissue engineered bone and tissue engineered bone only, respectively. Furthermore, two rhesuses without filling materials on the defect were picked up as blanks fixed by steel pins. ③The angiogenesis and osteogenesis for each treatment was assessed by radioactive imaging, roentgenographic analyses, blocking density and vaso-area image analysis at time intervals of 4, 8 and 12 weeks postoperative.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: The score of radioactive imaging,roentgenographic, morphological and vaso-area image analyses RESULTS: Totally 29 rhesuses were involved in the result analysis.① General observation of samples: In group A, all the surfaces of the implanted material and the central part were wholly wrapped up or replaced by bonelike tissues which were hard and could not be broken. And 2/3 materials had been absorbed; In group B and C, partial materials of the medial surface and the front were not coated or replaced by bonelike tissues, which could be broken with force, and 1/3 material had been absorbed.②Histological observation of scaffolds: With time passing, the scaffold materials were absorbed to different degrees in group A, B and C, among which, group A was most significant; Under the microscope, the implanted materials at 12 weeks were completely coated with the bonelike tissues, while the blood vessels structures in the materials were mostly alveoli alike and multi-braches. In group B, most of the materials at 12 weeks were wrapped up by the new bone, and few blood vessels could be seen in the center of the materials. In group C, the implanted materials at 12 weeks were slightly absorbed. The new bone and the vascular structures were both increased a little, but still very few.③Analyses of vaso-area: The vaso-areas of both central and peripheral parts in group A were significantly bigger than those of group B and C (P ＜ 0.05). Furthermore, it tended to increase with the time.④X-rays observation: At 12 weeks, group A's images presented obviously decreased density which was lower than that of the normal bone in individual areas and the continual bony callus manifested. Whereas group B and C's images showed slightly decreased density and the continual bony callus appeared on the sections. ⑤The roentgenographic scores of bone defects: The results indicates that the scores of group A was better than those of group B and C at 4, 8 and 12 weeks, respectively (P ＜ 0.05).CONCLUSION: ①This study shows that a feasible and effective angiogenesis approach of tissue engineered bone can accelerate osteogenesis in vivo. ②The absorption level is positively related to local angiogenesis.
