AIM: To explore the effects of high D-glucose on the mRNA and protein expression of lectin-like oxidized LDL receptor-1 (LOX-1) in endothelial cells and to study the possible mechanism by which diabetes is easily accompanied by vascular diseases. METHODS: Cell morphology was observed with inverted phasecontrast microscope. LOX-1 mRNA was detected by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction in vascular epithelial cells cultured with different concentration D-glucose (7 5, 15 or 30 mmol/L) or with the same concentration D-glucose (15 mmol/L) in different time (0, 12, 24, 48, 72 or 96 h), LOX-1 protein expression was also examined by immunohistochemisty. RESULTS: Cells, exposed to high concentration D-glucose, were crude with clear profiles and bright granules in the plasma. Different high concentration D-glucose could induce LOX-1 mRNA expression and the effect of 30 mmol/L glucose on LOX-1 mRNA was the most significant (P

After the structural reform in the food and drug supervision system, the knowledge structure and the professional re-quirements of the supervisors is unmatched, which hinder the fulfillment of regulatory responsibilities and the performance of adminis-trative efficacy. Effective ways for team building are actively explored throughout the country. The paper introduced the adult corre-spondence education of the supervisors in Zhejiang Ningbo food and drug supervision system to provide a good example for training work throughout the country and some useful suggestions for the quality improvement of the supervision team.

Food and drug supervision is a specialized job. However, the present supervisors coming from various departments have differences in supervision concepts, professional background, knowledge structure and work experience, which shows large gap with the requirements of supervision work. Therefore, it is urgent to strengthen the classified training for the improvement of quality construction and specialization. The article provided the curriculum system, teaching explanation and ideas about the classified training for all supervisors in the whole system, which may be beneficial to the training of food and drug supervisors.

Objective To study the effect of Eclipta alba on learning and memory ability and brain derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) in brain of Alzheimer's disease (AD) model rats. Methods Healthy adult SD rats were randomly divided into control group, model group, low dosage group and high dosage group. There were 10 rats in each group. The model of Alzheimer's disease was established with subcutaneous injection of D-galactose and microinjection Aβ25-35 on bilateral hippocampus. All rats were treated with saline solution or different dosage of Eclipta alba respectively lasting 8 weeks. Then the ability of learning and memory of AD rats was evaluated by the Morris water maze test. The levels of expression of BDNF in brain were determined by immunohistochemical staining method and Western Blot method. Results The Morris water maze test:the average escape latent period prolonged besides the percentage of the swimming time in the target quadrant from the total swimming time and the times across the platform((34.14± 1.43) s,(33.71±3.82) %,(3.40±0.70) times) decreased significantly in model group compared with control group((18.83±0.62) s,(41.98±3.96) %,(5.40± 1.17) times,P<0.01).The average escape latent period shortened besides the percentage of the swimming time in the target quadrant from the total swimming time and the times across the platform increased significantly in high dosage group compared with the model group (P<0.01).Immunohistochemical staining and Western blot:the level of expression of BDNF in brain in model group was prominently less than control group (P< 0.01).The BDNF level in drug treated groups was prominently higher than model group(P<0.01).The expression of BDNF increased with the drug dosage increasing. Conclusion Eclipta alba can improve the learning and memory function of AD rats by enhance the expression of BDNF.

Aim To investigate estradiol inhibition of neointimal proliferation after rat carotid artery balloon injury. Methods Eight to ten-week-old SD rats (male,n=21,female,n=21) were divided into intact control(n=7),gonadectomy control(n=7) and estradiol (n=7, gonadectomy)groups in each sex. Left carotid artery was not injured with 2.0 F PTCA balloon until estradiol was injected for three days. Rats were killed 2 wk after injury. Neointimal areas and media area, ratios of intimal areas/media areas were measured with computer. Results Male neointimal areas and ratios of intimal areas /media areas in estradiol group were less than those in intact control group significantly(all P0.05). Conclusions Estrdiol inhibits neointimal proliferation after the gonadectomy in rats undergoing carotid artery balloon injury.

OBJECTIVETo observe the polymorphism and gene frequency of interleukin 6 (IL6) gene -572C/G in Chinese Han nationality population, that associating with susceptibility to myocardial infarction(MI) and impacting on the extent of coronary artery lesions; to analyze the function of IL6 gene -572C/G polymorphism.
METHODSWith PCR-RFLP method, IL6 gene -572C/G polymorphism was genotyped to 232 MI patients and 260 healthy adults. The effect of IL6 gene -572C/G polymorphism was observed to the extent of coronary artery lesions and the ability of IL6 production from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC).
RESULTSThere was IL6 gene -572C/G polymorphism in Chinese Hans. -572CG+GG genotype and G allele were more frequent in patients than in controls (P< 0.01). The relative risk for G allele carrier to suffer from MI was 1.68 times of CC genotype individual (95%CI 1.17-2.41, P< 0.01). However, the distribution of IL6 gene -572C/G polymorphism was no significant difference among patients with single-vessel, two-vessel and three-vessel lesions (P> 0.05). After PBMC cultured for 24 hours, the IL6 concentration in supernatant was significantly higher in subjects with CG genotype than those with CC genotype (P< 0.05).
CONCLUSIONIL6 gene -572G allele may be a genetic susceptibility factor to MI attack of Chinese Hans population, and related to the high expression of IL6.
