This paper reviews the composition, mechanisms, safety and clinical application of major absorbable hemostatic materials, including oxidized cellulose, oxidized regenerated cellulose, thrombin sealants, fibrin glue,collagen, gelatin, α-cyanoacrylate sealants, bovine albumin and gluteraldehyde, chitosan-based hemostatic agents and microporous polysaccharide. Special attention was paid to the relationship between different absorbable hemostatic agents and the blood coagulation mechanism. We also discussed the future development of absorbable hemostatic agents.

Objective To investigate differences in the expression of Ras 1,Rac1 and Rho1 genes between yeast and hyphal phases of Trichosporon asahii (T.asahii),and to explore their roles in the formation of hyphae.Methods The yeast phase and hyphal phase of T.asahii were cultured and served as yeast phase group and hyphal phase group respectively.Total RNA was extracted from the 2 groups,and real -time fluorescence-based quantitative PCR (RT-PCR) was performed to measure the mRNA expression of Ras1,Rac1 and Rho1.Results The hyphal formation rate was significantly lower in the yeast phase group than in the hyphal phase group (0.40％ ± 0.53％ vs.99.33％ ± 0.57％,t =13.93,P ＜ 0.05).When the mRNA expression of Ras1,Rac1 and Rho1 in the yeast phase group was all set as 1,that in the hyphal phase group was 25.17 ± 10.99,16.81 ± 7.80,42.61 ± 18.50,respectively,with significant differences between the two groups in the three parameters (t =3.81,3.51,3.90,respectively,all P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion Ras1,Rac1 and Rho1 genes may participate in the regulation of hyphal formation in T.asahii.

OBJECTIVETo explore the clinical effects of Mobi-C cervical artificial disc replacement (CADR) and anterior cervical decompression and fusion (ACDF) in treating single cervical disc herniation.

METHODSFrom June 2009 to June 2012, the clinical data of 27 patients with single cervical disc herniation were retrospectively analyzed. There were 18 males and 9 females, aged from 30 to 62 years old with an average of 46.7 years. Of them, 12 patients were treated with CADR (CADR group) and 15 patients with ACDF (ACDF group). All patients had pain and numbness in neck, shoulder and upper limbs, and courses of disease was from 1 to 13 months with an average of 2.4 months. The data of clinical evaluation and questionnaire survey about quality of life were collected before operation, postoperative at 1 week and final follow-up. Odom criterion was used to evaluate postoperative effect. Visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to record pain levels. Neck disability index (NDI) and health questionnaire SF-36 were used to assess the quality of life.

RESULTSNo complications about nerve and blood vessel were found and the patients were followed up from 6 to 30 months, with an average of 16 months. One week after operation, 10 cases got excellent results and 2 good in CADR group; 5 cases got excellent results and 10 good in ACDF group; there was significant difference between two groups (P<0.05). At final follow-up, 10 cases got excellent results and 2 good in CADR group; 12 cases got excellent results and 3 good in ACDF group; there was no significant difference between two groups (P> 0.05). Pain of upper limbs had obviously relieved between two groups at 1 week after operation and final follow-up (P<0.05). VAS of neck and NDI in CADR group had decreased respectively from preoperative 3.58±0.79, 23.42±6.36 to 0.58±0.51, 5.42±1.68 at 1 week after operation (P<0.05); but the index in ACDF group was no obvious at 1 week after operation. At final follow-up, VAS of neck and NDI and SF-36 score were obviously improved than preoperation (P<0.05) between two groups.

CONCLUSIONMobi-C CADR retains the movement unit in the decompression segment and can quickly recover normal action for patients. Using CADR method has a good curative effect in the early phase, and the clinical effect is reliable, may improve the quality of life.

Objective To observe the abnormal Minnesota code (MC) distribution and interrelated characteristic on electrocardiograms (ECGs) of the adult Kazakh population.Methods Resting ECGs and blood press of randomly sampled 30 000 adult Kazakh people in three Northern regions of Xinjiang were continuously examined and analyzed,using Minnesota code recommended by WHO as the classification of ECG.Results The overall rate of abnormal ECG findings was 248.60‰,and the main abnormality in males was 146.83‰,compared to 157.71‰ in females.The prevalence rates of abnormal ST-T changes,the total arrhythmia and atrial fibrillation (AF) were 100.03‰,71.17‰ and 2.83‰ respectively.There were statistically significant differences among the main abnormities from the three regions.Conclusion The ECGs abnormalities of adult Kazakh people were high.There was significant relation found between the main abnormalities and hypertension.The prevalence of AF was different from the domestically reported literature that calls for further study.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the clinical results of use of healing abutment for sealing socket and preserving the gingival natural profile in single-tooth immediate implantation.

METHODSThe osteotomy site was prepared with pilot drill directed by the periodontal probe on palatal wall of the socket,and 31 single-implant were placed into fresh sockets with flapless surgery and filled with Bio-oss. Healing abutments were simultaneously fitted on implants and ceramic crowns fabricated three months post-operation. Scientific assessment of soft tissue contour was carried out by interdental papillae index immediately after restorations.

RESULTSOne implant was lost at second week after operation. The remaining 30 implants gained perfect osseointegration and the gingival natural profile was preserved completely.

CONCLUSIONSSealing socket and preserving the gingival natural profile by healing abutment is a predictable, safe and practical method with good aesthetic results in single-tooth immediate implantation.

OBJECTIVETo explore the relationship between the overexpression of PKA RIalpha mRNA and cliniopathological parameters in lung cancer.

METHODSRT-PCR was used to detect the expression of PKA RIalpha mRNA in 54 cases with human lung cancer and matched normal tissues.

RESULTS(1) The expression of PKA RIalpha mRNA was significantly higher in cancer tissue (66.7%) than in normal tissues (20.4%) (P < 0.01). (2) The expression was significantly correlated with TNM stage (P < 0.01), being increased with TNM stage. (3) The expression was significantly higher in patients with positive lymph nodes than in those with negative lymph nodes (P < 0.01). (4) There were no significant associations of PKA RIalpha mRNA expression with histological type, differentiation grade or size of the tumor.

CONCLUSIONThis study indicates that the overexpression of PKA RIalpha mRNA may play an important role in the progression, metastasis and prognosis of lung cancer.

OBJECTIVE: To establishment the Sense of Security Scale for Medical Staff and test its reliability and validity. METHODS: The pre-test version scale was formulated through methods of literature review, semi-structured interviews with clinical medical staff, discussion with members of research groups, and consultation with medical experts. A total of 350 and 403 medical staff who worked in a tertiary A hospital in Guangdong Province were selected as the prediction and the verification samples, respectively, by convenience sampling method. The reliability and validity of the final version scale were tested by item analysis, exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factory analysis. RESULTS: Through item analysis, it was determined that the scale was mainly composed of 24 items. Exploratory factory analysis extracted five characteristics: environmental factors, patient factors, self factors, organizational management, and social support, that explained 72.8% of the total variation. The results of confirmatory factory analysis showed that the ratio of chi-square to degree of freedom was 2.851, the mean square error of approximation was 0.068, the standardized mean square residual was 0.078, the goodness of fit index was 0.883, the normative fit index was 0.904, the comparative fit index was 0.935, the non-standard fitting index was 0.924, and the incremental fitting index was 0.936. The results of reliability and validity test showed that the total Cronbach alpha coefficient, Spearman-Brown coefficient and retest reliability were 0.939, 0.967 and 0.808, respectively. The item reliability of each item was 0.420-0.814, the composite reliability was 0.775-0.920, the content validity ratio was 0.904, the convergent validity was 0.514-0.741, and the discriminative validity was 0.717-0.861. CONCLUSION: The reliability and validity of each dimension of the Sense of Security Scale for Medical Staff is good, and it can be used as an evaluation tool to measure the sense of security in medical staff.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the clinical effect of Er:YAG laser combined with ethylenediamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA) on three-walled periodontal intrabony defects adjacent to implant sites. METHODS: A total of 30 patients with three-walled periodontal intrabony defects adjacent to implant sites were treated with the combination therapy. Patients with three-walled intrabony defects were divided into two groups according to the depth of the intrabony pocket between the implant and natural teeth. Evaluation of wound healing was performed 10 days after the operation, and bone augmentation was evaluated 6 months after the operation. RESULTS: Primary healing in group 1 was 92.31%, primary healing in group 2 was 82.35%. No significant difference was observed between the two groups ( CONCLUSIONS The effect of bone augmentation with combination therapy was more ideal in group 2 than in group 1. Implant placement with combination therapy may be a viable technique to reconstruct three-walled intrabony defects due to the space maintenance provided by implants and bone grafts and the good root surface biocompatibility provided by the Er:YAG laser and EDTA.

AIM: To study the chemical constituents of Lomatogonium carinthiacum (Wulfen) Rchb. METHOD: The CHCl3-soluble fraction was separated by chromatography and the structures of the new compounds were elucidated by spectral experiments. RESULTS: Two new xanthones, 1, 8-dihydroxy-4, 5-dimethoxy-6, 7-methylenedioxyxanthone (1), 1, 4, 8-trimethoxyxanthone-6-O-β-D-glucoronyl-(1→6)O-β-D-glucoside (2) were isolated from the whole plant of Lomatogonium carinthiacum. CONCLUSION Compounds 1 and 2 are new natural products.

To establish the high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) fingerprint for Digeda-4 decoction (DGD-4D), determine the contents of aesculetin, geniposide, picroside Ⅰ, picroside Ⅱ and ellagicacid in DGD-4D, and provide the scientific foundation for quality control of DGD-4D. The analysis was performed on Diamonsil(2) C₁₈ (4.6 mm×250 mm,5 μm) column, with methanol-0.1% phosphoric acid aqueous solution as mobile phase for gradient elution. The flow rate was 1.0 mL·min⁻¹; injection size was 10 μL; temperature was maintained at 30 °C, and the detection wavelength was set at 254 nm. The common mode of DGD-4D HPLC fingerprint was established, and the hidden information was analyzed by Chemometrics. Chromatographic peaks for DGD-4D were identified by HPLC and quantitative analysis was conducted for characteristic peaks. There were 17 common peaks in the fingerprints and the similarity of the fingerprints was over 0.9 in all 15 batches. The samples were broadly divided into four kinds by principal component analysis and clustering analysis. Four marker compounds were verified by partial least squares discriminant analysis, and No. 9, 12 and 14 peaks were identified as geniposide, picroside Ⅱ, and picroside Ⅰ respectively. The average recoveries were in the range of 95.91%-97.31%. The HPLC fingerprint method for content determination is reliable, accurate, rapid, simple, and reproducible, and can be used as one of the effective methods to control the quality of DGD-4D.
