1.Roles of periostin in cancer
Journal of International Oncology 2011;38(2):92-96
Periostin, a extracellular matrix protein structurally similar to fasciclin proteins, is expressed specifically in various tumor tissues and correlates with tumor progression and prognosis. Periostin prevents the apoptosis of tumor cells, promotes tumor growth and can induce angiogenic signaling cascades through αvβ3-FAK and Flk-1/KDR. It also contributes to epithelial-mesenchymal-transformation promoting tumor invasion and metastasis. Periostin maybe a potential therapeutic target of cancer treatment.

Objective: To compare the effects of three fluoride-containing agents on the remineralization of deciduous teeth in vitro. Methods: 36 deciduous teeth were randomly divided into four groups with 9 in each. The teeth were fenestrated on the labial middle surface and the rest parts of the teeth were covered with red nail polish.Every exposed area was etched, rinsed and puffed. Then the exposed areas were treated with 100 g/L(NH 4) 2MoO 2F 4(group ①) , 380 g/L Ag(NH 3) 2F (group ②) and APF-LaCl 3(group ③) for 3 minutes respectively, those in group④ were treated with deionized H 2O as the controls. Then, the teeth were placed into a bottle containing 5 ml remineralization solutions. 4 days later, the concentration of Ca 2+ in the remineralization solutions was measured. Results: The Ca 2+ concentrations (mmol/L) in the remineralization solution of group ①,②,③ and ④ were 0.338 9?0.116 5,0.570 0?0.145 5,0.517 8?0.084 8 and 0.120 4?0.046 8 respectively (P0.05:②vs③). Conclusion: The results indicate that all of the three fluoride-containing agents can promote the remineralization of deciduous teeth in vitro, and that both APF-LaCl 3 and 380 g/L Ag(NH 3) 2F are more effective than 100 g/L(NH 4) 2, MoO 2 F 4.
4.Cloning, Location and Differential Analysis of Transcription Factor Relish Gene from Anopheles stephensi under Different Feeding Conditions
Chinese Journal of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases 1997;0(05):-
Objective To clone, locate and differentially analyze the transcription factor Relish gene from Anopheles stephensi, and to examine its signals-modulating action on prophenoloxidase cascade and melanization of Plasmodium yoelii oocysts. Methods Relish cDNA of total mosquitoes was amplified by RT-PCR with degenerated primers. Target PCR product was purified, cloned, sequenced and identified. Special Relish gene was amplified with specific primers from hemocytes or midgut, respectively. Semi-quantitative analysis was made under different feeding conditions. Relish message ribonucleic acid was identified with hybridization in situ. Results One cDNA segment of Relish similar to An.gambiae was acquired from An. stephensi. The same Relish gene was also manifested in the hemocytes and midgut. Marked up-regulation expression of Relish was observed at 6,12,24 or 48 h of Plasmodium yoelii infection and at 12 and 24 h after sucking nitroquine-acetate sucrose solution, that was before inducible oocyst melanization. Relish was also expressed in the hemocytes and midguts by ISH. Conclusion Transcription factor Relish of An. stephensi might play a role in signal modulation of Plasmodium yoelii infection and oocyst melanization.

BACKGROUND: Both proximal femoral nail and hemiarthroplasty have been applied in the treatment of unstable intertrochanteric fractures in osteoporotic patients. However, which has better curative efficacy is still under discussion.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical effectiveness of proximal femoral nail versus hemiarthroplasty in the treatment of unstable intertrochanteric fracture in osteoporotic patients.METHODS: Sixty-seven patients diagnosised with unstable intertrochanteric fractures and osteoporosis were selected, and were randomly divided into two groups, followed by treated with hemiarthroplasty (group 1, n=35)) and proximal femoral nail (group 2, n=32), respectively. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, length of incision, postoperative time in bed, hospitalization time and complications were recorded and compared between two groups. Harris hip scores were used to evaluate the preoperative and postoperative hip function.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) In the group 1, the operation time, intraoperative blood loss and length of incision were more than those in the group 1, and the postoperative time in bed was less than that in the group 2 (P < 0.05).However, the healing and hospitalization time did not differ significantly between two groups (P > 0.05). (2) No significant difference was observed in the excellent and good rate in Harris hip scores between two groups at the last follow-up (P >0.05). The postoperative pain scores in the group 1 were significantly superior to those in the group 2 (P < 0.05). (3)There were 1 case of delayed union and 1 case of lateral hip appearing with pain in the group 2. At the last follow-up, all patients healed completely, and no prosthesis dislocation, loosening or infection was found. (4) To condude, hemiarthroplasty provides early functional recovery and fewer complications, but with much surgical trauma. Proximal femoral nail shows similar treatment outcomes with hemiarthroplasty; therefore, it is a kind of alternative treatment strategy for unstable intertrochanteric fractures.

Medical Journal of Chinese People's Liberation Army 1981;0(06):-
The protective function of five traditional herb medicines, namely anisodamine, escin, salvia miltiorrhizae radix, astragalus root and ecdysterone, in cultured HUVECs challenged by LPS. ATP,ADP,AMP and energy charge were measured in cultured HUVECs challenged by LPS after treatment with five herb medicines. The results showed that energy charge of HUVECs decreased after LPS challenge, and increased significiantly more afer the addition of escin, radix astragali and ecdysterone than other herbs. It suggested that escin, astragalus and ecdysterone can protect HUVECs from injury induced by LPS.
