Objective: To study the effects of glycosaminoglycan from scallop skirt (SS-GAG) on the formation of foam cells from porcine artery smooth muscle cells (SMCs) and the expression of the total superoxide dismutase(SOD)and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-PX)activity, NO production and the mechanism of anti-atherosclerosis action of SS-GAG. Methods: SMCs were incubated with 15 mg/L oxidized low-density lipoprotein (Ox-LDL) for 72 h to establish a smooth muscle cell-derived foam cell model. In addition, SMC cells were divided into 6 groups:①blank group,②model(Ox-LDL) group, ③Ox-LDL+200 mg/L SS-GAG group,④Ox-LDL+400 mg/L SS-GAG group,⑤Ox-LDL+800 mg/L SS-GAG group, ⑥Ox-LDL+Heparin 100 mg/L group. After 72 h incubation, intracellular total cholesterol (TC), free cholesterol (FC), cholesteryl ester (CE) content and CE/TC ratio were measured through enzymatic method. The SOD, GSH-PX and NO concentration in the medium were also determined through Xanthine oxidase method or TBARs. Results: TC, CE, CE/TC in model group significantly increased, while FC, GSH-PX and NO concentration in the medium significantly decreased compared with blank group. Objective To investigate the relationship between insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR) and the clinical pathology fea-tures in chronic hepatitis B(CHB) patients. Methods ALT and hepatitis B virus loading level and HOMA-IR were measured in 80 CHB pa-tients. Correlation analysis was performed with pathological features of liver tissue. Result Insulin resistance(IR) was much more obvious in patients with severer degree of liver inflammation and fibrosis . HOMA-IR and the insulin level of CHB patients in G3 grade(15.24±7.41,3.51 ± 1.91) and S3 stage (16.65±6. 46,3.79 ± 1.50) were higher than those in G2 grade (10.33 ± 6.28,2.25 ± 1.39) and S2 stage(9.06 ± 4.61,2.02 ± 1.11). The HOMA-IR was positive correlated with the level of age and ALT. Conclusion The development of IR in CHB patients was correlated with age and the degree of liver inflammation and fibrosis.

Objective To construct Streptococcus mutans UA159 mutants with deletion of LuxS gene related to quorum-sensing pathway and evaluate the aciduricity of the mutants. Methods Using S. mutans UA159 as materials, the PCR fragments of the upstream and downstream regions of LuxS and erythromycin resistance(Eymr) gene of PJT10 were cloned into plasmid PUC19. The resulting constructs were integrated into the chromosome of S. mutans. LuxS gene deletion mutant was then constructed in S. mutans by means of allelic exchange and selected for resistance to erythromycin. The aciduric ability of the mutant under different pH was measured and S. mutans UA159 was used as control. Results The LuxS-deleted status of S. mutans mutants were confirmed by various PCR and DNA sequencing. The results showed that Eymr gene take the place of LuxS gene, while the mutant can not induce bioluminescenece. The LuxS mutant strain displayed a decreased growth ability with the decreasing pH values compared to those of the wild-type strain UA159. Conclusion A LuxS-negative mutants of S. mutans is constructed. The LuxS quorum sensing system is involved in the regulation of aciduricity of S. mutans UA159.

To investigate the possibility of resection arthroplasty of the sternoclavicular joint in treatment of dislocation of this joint.Methods:Five patients who had had resection arthroplasty of the sternoclavicular joint and in whom the costoclavicular ligament had to be reconstructed,follow-up averaged 1.8 years.Results:The average duration of follow-up were 1.8 years.All of the patients had an excellent result,no cases had infection、pain and abnormalities.Conclusion:We believe that resection arthroplasty of the sternoclavicular joint and preservation reconstruction of the costoclavicular joint is essential,and it is a satisfactory and safe way for the treatment of dislocation of the sternoclavicular joint.

Objective To evaluate the effect of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy ( PEG) on the nutritional status and complication rate in patients with enteral nutrition support.Methods Sixty five patients receiving PEG from January 2008 to December 2014 were enrolled in the study.The nutritional status was examined and the incidence of complications was documented before and after PEG.Results The serum albumin, body mass index (BMI) and arm muscle circumference were (29.2 ±3.2)g/L, (18.0 ± 1.0)kg/m2, (21.1 ±1.9)cm and (32.9 ±3.0)g/L, (18.8 ±1.6)kg/m2, (23.0 ±3.0)cm before and 1 month after PEG, respectively (t=-6.798, -3.202 and -3.957, all P<0.05).Compared to those before PEG, the serum albumin, BMI and arm muscle circumference at 3 and 6 months after PEG were increased to ( 35.4 ±4.9 ) g/L, ( 19.7 ±1.4 ) kg/m2 , ( 24.9 ±2.2 ) cm ( t =-7.845, -7.202,-10.432, all P<0.05) and (37.9 ±3.7)g/L, (20.7 ±1.6)kg/m2, (26.9 ±3.7)cm (t=-14.046,-10.686, -9.827, all P<0.05), respectively.Compared to those with nasal feeding, the incidence of aspiration pneumonia was decreased from 62% ( 40/65 ) to 18% ( 10/57 ) and the incidence of reflux esophagitis was decreased from 51% (33/65) to 19% (11/57) 6 months after PEG, respectively (χ2 =24.3 and 13.5, all P<0.01).Conclusion PEG can improve nutritional status and reduce the incidence of aspiration pneumonia and reflux esophagitis for patients with enteral nutrition support.

Objective To analyze the clinical features,endoscopic characteristics and methods for diagnosis and treatment of ischemic colitis.Methods The clinical data of 56 patients with ischemic colitis were retrospectively analyzed.Results Ischemic colitis occurred more often in elderly patients.Male and female ratio was 1 ∶1.8.The patients often had concomitant basic diseases,such as diabetes mellitus (53.6％,30/56),hypertension (39.3％,22/56),coronary heart disease (32.1％,18/56).The main manifestations of ischemic colitis were abdominal pain (100.0％,56/56) and bloody stools (89.3％,50/56).The lesions revealed by colonoscopy were mainly located in the left colon and distributed in a segmental pattern,and the pathological changes included mucosal edema,congestion,erosion and ulceration.The prognosis was good in most cases.Conclusions Ischemic colitis should be suspected in elderly patients with acute abdominal pain and bloody stools.Early colonoscopy is helpful for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment of ischemic colitis.

Forty five Han individuals were enrolled for the investigation of the polymorphism property of HIV 1 associated SDF 1? in Chinese Han nationality. Four exons of SDF 1? were cloned by PCR amplification using 4 pairs of primers, then sequenced respectively. DNAstar software was employed to analyze the sequencing results. One SNP and one thymidine deletion were identified in the coding region of SDF1 ?. The SNP was G→T at 192 with a frequency of 8.9%, resulting in replacing lysine to asparagine. The thymidine deletion was at 100 (100?T), which caused frame shift from the 34th amino acid and ending at the 59th amino acid. Both of them were discovered for the first time, and their influences on HIV 1 infection and AIDS progression remain to be explored.

BACKGROUND: Both proximal femoral nail and hemiarthroplasty have been applied in the treatment of unstable intertrochanteric fractures in osteoporotic patients. However, which has better curative efficacy is still under discussion.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical effectiveness of proximal femoral nail versus hemiarthroplasty in the treatment of unstable intertrochanteric fracture in osteoporotic patients.METHODS: Sixty-seven patients diagnosised with unstable intertrochanteric fractures and osteoporosis were selected,and were randomly divided into two groups, followed by treated with hemiarthroplasty (group 1, n=35)) and proximal femoral nail (group 2, n=32), respectively. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, length of incision, postoperative time in bed, hospitalization time and complications were recorded and compared between two groups. Harris hip scores were used to evaluate the preoperative and postoperative hip function.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) In the group 1, the operation time, intraoperative blood loss and length of incision were more than those in the group 1, and the postoperative time in bed was less than that in the group 2 (P < 0.05).However, the healing and hospitalization time did not differ significantly between two groups (P > 0.05). (2) No significant difference was observed in the excellent and good rate in Harris hip scores between two groups at the last follow-up (P >0.05). The postoperative pain scores in the group 1 were significantly superior to those in the group 2 (P < 0.05). (3)There were 1 case of delayed union and 1 case of lateral hip appearing with pain in the group 2. At the last follow-up, all patients healed completely, and no prosthesis dislocation, loosening or infection was found. (4) To condude,hemiarthroplasty provides early functional recovery and fewer complications, but with much surgical trauma. Proximal femoral nail shows similar treatment outcomes with hemiarthroplasty; therefore, it is a kind of alternative treatment strategy for unstable intertrochanteric fractures.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the characteristics and regularity of adverse drug reactions(ADR) occurred in our hospital for reference of clinical rational drug use.METHODS: 1 183 ADR cases reported in our hospital between 2006 and 2007 were analyzed statistically using Excel in respect of patients' sex,age,routes of administration,variety of drugs and clinical manifestations etc.RESULTS: Of the 1 183 ADR cases,268(22.65%) were submitted by clinical departments,462(39.05%) by the department of pharmacy,and 441(37.28%) by central injection room.ADR incidence rate was slightly lower in males than in females.Patients over the age of 31 years showed a higher incidence of ADR.901 cases(76.16%) were induced by intravenous route.662 were induced by anti-infectives,followed by the traditional Chinese medicine(163 cases) and cardiovascular system drugs(149 cases).The most common manifestation of ADR was lesion of digestive system(301 cases),followed by lesions of skin and its appendages(236 cases) and damage of central nervous system(224 cases).CONCLUSION: Great importance should be attached to ADR monitoring as well as the analysis and evaluation of ADR so as to ensure safe and effective medication.

Objective:To observe the expression of PCNA and morphological changes of submandibular gland of db/db mutant diabetic mice. Methods:Fifty C57BL/Ksj-db/+m mice were randomly divided into 2 groups, db/db diabetic group and control group. The morphological changes of submandibular gland and the expression of PCNA were observed by using light microscope (LM) and immunohistochemistry.
