Chinese Journal of Geriatrics 2003;0(07):-
Objective To investigate the effects of L-thyroxine(LT4) on serum lipid and bone metabolism in aged patients with subclinical hypothyroidism (SH). Methods Seventy-eight patients with diagnosed SH were randomly assigned to receive LT4 (therapy group) or placebo(control group) for one year. Mean dose for LT4 replacement was (80.1?37.2) ?g/d. The changes of clinical symptoms, body mass index (BMI) and serum levels of total cholesterol(TC), triglycerides(TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C), apolipoprotein A 1(ApoA 1), apolipoprotein B 100 (ApoB 100 ), calcium ion(Ca 2+ ), phosphorus ion (P 3+ ) and alkaline phosphatase (AKP) and bone mineral density (BMD) were measured before and after therapy. Results After LT4 therapy, clinical symptoms were ameliorated. BMI and serum TC, TG, LDL-C and ApoB 100 levels were significantly reduced 〔(24.6?3.1 vs 23.3?2.2),(5.65?1.42 vs 4.43?0.81),(1.81?0.66 vs 1.43?0.40),(3.64?0.84 vs 2.68?0.63)mmol/L,(0.98?0.22 vs 0.83?0.21)g/L,P

To evaluate the immune response and safety of the therapeutic DNA vaccine against the hepatitis B virus in rhesus macaques immunized by intramuscular injection of therapeutic DNA vaccine combined with electroporation. HBV DNA vaccine was administered to rhesus macaques by repeated intramuscular injections combined with electroporation in doses of 0 2,1 and 2mg, monthly for three consecutive months. The anti HBs antibody level was used to evaluate the efficacy of induction of humoral immunity. After that, the vaccine was intramuscularly injected daily in the same dose for six days to evaluate its safety. It was found that immunization with the therapeutic DNA vaccine against hepatitis B virus by means of intramuscular injections combined with electroporation induced a strong and specific anti HBs humoral immune response in rhesus macaques.Nine repeated intramuscular injections of the vaccine did not show adverse effects on behaviors, hematology, blood chemistry, and histopathology. No evidences of autoimmune mediated pathology and anti nuclear antibodies were observed in the rhesus macaques. These results suggested that electroporation significantly improves the efficacy of the therapeutic HBV DNA vaccine in rhesus macaques. The vaccine is safe and well tolerated.

Wearable devices bring us an innovative human-computer interaction which plays an irreplaceable role in enhancing the users' ability in environmental awareness, acquirements of their own state and "ubiquitous" computing power. Since 2013, wearable devices have quickly appeared around us. In this article we classify most of the wearable devices which have been appeared in the markets or reported in the literature according to their functions and the positions where they are worn. Furthermore, we review the technologies related to wearable devices, such as sensing technology, wireless communication, power manager, display technology and big data. At last, we analyze the challenges which the wearable devices will face in near future, and look forward to development trends of wearable devices.

AIM: To study the alteration of expression of iNOS mRNA and ecNOS mRNA in peripheral leukocytes of Wistar rats fed with fructose. METHODS: Wistar rats were randomly divided into the control group ( n =10) and the fructose feeding group( n =10). The fructose feeding group drank 12% fructose water for 6 months. The blood glucose, blood insulin, and the expression of iNOS mRNA and ecNOS mRNA in peripheral leukocytes of rats were determined. RESULTS: The levels of blood insulin ( P

Aim To investigate the effect of asiatic acid on apoptosis and autophagy in human glioblastoma T98G cells. Methods MTT colorimetry was employed to assay the cellular proliferating activity. The fluores-cence microscope and Hoechst 33258 staining were used to detect the morphological changes. The cell ap-optosis and autophagy were analyzed by flow cytometry with Annexin-V/7-AAD and MDC staining respective-ly. The expressions of associated proteins were detected by Western blot to analyze the mechanism of apoptosis and autophagy. Results MTT assay showed that the growth of T 9 8 G cells was inhibited by asiatic acid ( IC50 =46. 3 μmol · L-1 ) . Annexin V/7-AAD stai-ning and Western blot revealed that asiatic acid in-duced apoptosis in T98 G cells by reducing the expres-sion of Akt, decreasing the mitochondrial membrane potential, and increasing the expression of Caspase-3. MDC staining and Western blot showed that the per-centage of MDC-positive cells was decreased and the expressions of Beclin-1 , LC3-II and Atgs were inhibi-ted by asiatic acid treatment. 5 μmol·L-1 chloroquine was used to up-regulate the expressions of LC3-Ⅱand Beclin-1 . Asiatic acid-inhibited autophagy was blocked and the total apoptotic rate was reduced remarkably. Conclusion Asiatic acid suppresses T98 G cells pro-liferation by inducing apoptosis and inhibiting cell au-tophagy, and the very role of inhibiting autophagy could promote apoptosis to a certain extent.

Objective To explore the effect of application of task-based learning with experiential teaching on nursing clinical decision making ability. Methods A total of 96 nursing students were divided into experimental group and observation group with each of 48 nursing students. The experimental group used the application of task-based learning with experimental teaching, the control group used the traditional scenario simulation. At the end of the course, the final scores, skill operation scores and nursing students'evaluation of the course and clinical decision-making ability of nursing were observed in the two groups. Results The final scores, chapters related to task-based learning with experiential teaching, skill operation scores was (82.06±0.98), (12.01±0.88), (94.99±0.34) points in the experimental group, and (78.34±0.98), (9.32±0.76), (91.87±0.98) points in the control group, and the difference was significant(t=12.958, 9.872, 10.834, all P<0.01). The evaluation of teaching methods, teaching process and teaching effect was (20.06±0.98), (23.01±0.88), (35.99±0.34) points in the experimental group, and (17.34±0.98), (20.32±0.76), (30.87±0.98) points in the control group, and the difference was significant (t=5.96, 6.87, 6.99, all P<0.01).The score of clinical decision-making ability of nursing was (137.50 ± 12.61) points in the experimental group, and (123.88±9.89) points in the control group, and the difference was significant (t=5.891, P<0.01). Conclusions The effect of task-based learning with experiential teaching in teaching of nursing in vocational nursing students, enable students to transfer knowledge and experience in experience, it can improve the students' clinical decision making ability.
