Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 1986;0(06):-
Liver blood flow was measured in normal & CCl4-intoxicated mice & rats, using the electrolysis-generated hydrogen gas method. The results showed that the intramuscular injection of 6-15/kg of ISM increased significantly the liver blood flow in normal mice & rats. In acute or chronic CCl4-intoxicated mice & rats, the liver blood was decreased but the blood flow was restored the normal level by the ISM. In addition, the protective effect against liver injury was also observed by the histological examination & electron micrographs. The above results suggest that the protective effect of ISM against CCl4-induced liver injury seems to be through increasing the liver blood flow, improving liver's microcirculation & preventing or mitgating the denaturing or necrosis of liver cells.

OBJECTIVETo study the control of instability of paper splints for the treatment of Barton fractures.
METHODSFrom 1998 to 2007, 30 patients with Barton fractures were treated with manual reduction and external fixation with paper splints. Among the patients, 20 patients were male and 10 patients were female, ranging in age from 20 to 68 years, averaged 45.3 years. The course of the disease ranged from 1 to 15 hours, with a mean of 4.2 h. All the patients had a history of trauma. The X-rays showed palm-side distal radius fractures, fractured fragments displacing toward proximal palm and the radius bone sudislocating toward the palm. Anderson assessment method was adopted.
RESULTSAll the patients were followed up ranging from 0.5 to 2 years (12.3 months on average). When clinical healing, the X-ray showed good position in 26 cases, and the fractured fragments on the palm side displaced 1 to 2.5 mm toward palm in 4 cases. Final results : the motion range and function of wrist and forearm recovered completely in 24 patients; the motion range and function of wrist and forearm were limited slightly without hindering daily life in 6 patients. According to Anderson assessment method, 24 patients got an excellent result and 6 good.
CONCLUSIONThis fixation method possesed such advantages as improving hematoma absorption, reinforcing fixation on the basis of original fixation at any time without pressure sore and necrosis, safe and effective.

AIM: To investigate the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the METTL4 gene which was mapped to 18p11.31, and the relationship between the SNPs and high myopia. METHODS: Genomic DNA was collected from 71 control subjects and 177 individuals with high myopia. Among them, there were 59 autosomal dominant high myopia probands (AD group), 46 autosomal recessive probands (AR group) and 72 patients non-transmitted (SF group). The exons of METTL4 gene were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction, heteroduplex-single strand conformation polymorphism (HA-SSCP) and sequencing. RESULTS: There were 2 SNPs of METTL4 gene in high myopia individuals and control subjects: SNP7438A→C, Glu230Asp, which hadn't been reported in GenBank;and SNP131C→A, Gln310Lys. SNP7438A→C genotypes between controls and high myopia groups were not different. SNP131C→A genotypes between controls and AR or SF groups were not different, while SNP131C→A genotypes showed a significant difference between AD group and control subjects. CONCLUSION: In METTL4 gene, SNP7438A→C is not responsible for high myopia. Further studies are needed to confirm whether SNP131C→A is responsible for autosomal dominant high myopia.

OBJECTIVETo study the operation points of manual reduction for treatment of capitellum fractures of type I and analyze the characteristics of fixation with paper splint.
METHODSFrom April 2000 to February 2008, 27 cases with capitellum fractures of type I were treated by manual reduction of 90 degrees bending elbow and external fixation with paper splint, included 23 males and 4 females aged from 5 to 14 years old (means 8.9 years) with the course from 1 to 23 hours (averaged 5.4 hours). Before treatment all the wounded elbows were swollen and malfunctioned, the X-ray film showed that the fracture fragments of capitellum were separated and upside down displaced in varying degrees. During reduction, the correct restoration point was found and the reduction was correct, continuous and steady, and coordinated the passive movement of forearm and elbow joint, and the 90 degrees bending elbow was fixed by paper splint. All the patients were assessed according to JOA elbow joint function assessment method.
RESULTSAll 27 patients were followed-up for from 6 months to 2 years (averaged 17 months). All the elbow joints were painless, the movement and functions were normal, the elbow joints were stable. After reduction, no complication was found. There were 25 cases with the fracture site reaches or nearly reaches healing of anatomical counterparts, only 2 cases with slight cubitus valgus deformity. According to JOA score 25 cases gained 100 scores and 2 cases gained 97 scores.
CONCLUSIONThis method has advantage of strong stability, high success rate, firm and easy fixation, without pressure sore and necrosis.

OBJECTIVETo study the correlation between syndrome differ classification of knee osteoarthritis and X-ray image, so as to provide evidence for clinical diagnosis and treatment.
METHODSFrom Jun. 2007 to Dec. 2007, 78 patients (108 knees) with knee osteoarthritis were reviewed, including 65 females (89 knees) and 13 males (19 knees), ranging in age from 41 to 77 years. According to the standards for the differentiation of syndrome in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis defined in Principle of Clinical Research for New Traditional Herbs, the patients were divided into three types: Type I, insufficiency of the liver and kidney, with stagnation of tendons and muscles, 43 knees; Type II, insufficiency of the spleen and kidney, with dampness infusion into bone and joints, 26 knees; Type I, deficiency of the liver and kidney, with inter-obstruction of phlegm and stasis 39 knees. Normotopia and lateral plain film of knee joint of weigh loading and in erect position, and patellofemoral Skyline plain flim was taken. Joint space narrow, osteophyte generation, subchondral osteosclerosis and subchondral cystic degeneration were evaluated. All data were analyzed by K independent samples nonparametric test in order to find out the correlation between syndrome differ classification of knee osteoarthritis and X-ray image.
RESULTSIt was shown that after K independent samples nonparametric test about syndrome differ classification of knee osteoarthritis and X-ray image: there were significant differences among three types about lateral patella osteophyte, condyles of tibia osteophyte and Type II was the most serious, Type I was secondary, Type II was the lightest. Other index had no obvious difference among the three groups.
CONCLUSIONThere is certain correlation between syndrome differ classification of knee osteoarthritis and X-ray image. There are significant differences among three types about lateral patella osteophyte, condyles of tibia osteophyte, the Type II is the most serious,Type I is secondary, Type II is the lightest. Consequently, it can be deduced that worse osteophyte is one of accordances of Type II-insufficiency of the spleen and kidney, with dampness infusion into bone and joints. And, the Type II is more serious stage in radiologic manifestation.
