Objective To investigate sleep efficiency and characteristics in pediatric obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) and primary snoring (PS) children. Methods 32 children with OSAHS, and 27 PS children were monitored by nocturnal polysomnography (PSG). The parameters of sleep efficiency(SE) and sleep composition, including apnea/hyponea index(AHI),stageⅠ sleep(S1)%, stageⅡ sleep(S2)%, slow wave sleep(SWS)% and rapid eye movement(REM)%, were recorded and compared between the two groups. Results In OSAHS group, the SE was significantly lower than that in PS group (P

Objective To investigate the influences of Bi-level positive airway pressure(BiPAP)to night-time hy- poxemia and change of sleep structure in the patients with overlap syndrome(OS).Methods 25 patients with OS,19 with primary snoring(PS)were monitored and diagnosed by nocturnal polysomnography(PSG)for parameters of sleep efficiency(SE)and sleep architecture. The data of patients with OS were rechecked after 2-month's BiPAP treatment. Results In OS group, the level of FEV1%,FEV1/FVC,SaO2 A,SaO2 L,SE,REM and S3+4 were significantly lower than those in PS(P

Objective To investigate awareness of definition, diagnostic criteria, severity classification and standard diagnosis and treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) among primary-care physicians at the grassroots in urban and suburban Shanghai. Methods In total, 298 physicians were surveyed by unified questionnaire for COPD-related knowledge in two secondary-care general hospitals (one in urban and suburban areas each ) and 12 community primary-care centers (four in urban and eight in suburban areas) in Shanghai. One hundred and fifteen physicians in two urban hospitals and one suburban hospital were trained professionally and then evaluated for its effectiveness. Results Awareness of diagnostic criteria of COPD was only 22.4% (35/156), 25.6% ( 10/39), 4.3 % (3/69)and 26.5% (9/34) among physicians in urban primary-care hospitals, urban secondary-care hospitals, suburban primary-care hospitals and suburban secondary-care hospitals, respectively.Their awareness of knowledge about use of anti-cholinergic agents was 13.5 % (21/156), 35.9 % ( 14/39), naught (0/69),and 14.7 % ( 5/34 ), respectively.Only 0.67 % of them ( 2/298 ) knew about severity classification of COPD.Awareness of definition and diagnostic criteria for COPD in the physicians increased to 72.2 % ( 83/115) after training from 18.2% (21/115) before it, and their awareness of severity classification for COPD increased to 45.2% (52/115) after training from 0.8 % (1/115) before it.Conclusions Awareness of COPD-related knowledge, especially of standard diagnosis and treatment for COPD, was poor in primary-care physicians at the grassroots in Shanghai, so it is necessary to strengthen training for them in COPD-related knowledge, including pulmonary function tests.

Ischemic stroke constitutes a major cause of death and disability in the world.Inflammation has been reported to constitute a major component of ischemic stroke pathobiology. In the acute phase of ischemic stroke, microglias are activated, followed by several infiltration waves of different circulating immune cells into the brain.Among these circulating immune cells, monocytes have been shown to play an important role.Following their infiltration, monocytes differentiate into potent phagocytic cells, the monocyte-derived macrophages.Initially, the presence of these cells was considered as markers of an exacerbated inflammatory response that contributes to brain damage. However, the recent reports are suggesting a more complex role of these cells in ischemic stroke pathobiology. Here,we will address the roles of different monocyte subsets in ischemic stroke pathobiology, and the implications on therapies.

Objective To study the nutritional status of pregnant women in Shanxi Province before and after the implementation of the new standards of iodized salt content, provide the basis for scientific supplementation of iodine for pregnant women. Methods According to the method of population proportion sampling,30 county-level monitoring sites were selected,a primary school was selected from each county (city, district) by the method of simple random sampling and 40 students in 2011 or 50 students in 2014 aged 8-10 years were selected in each school, direct titration was used to detect salt iodine;at the same time,20 pregnant women were selected from each town where the primary school was located and urinary iodine was determined using arsenic cerium catalytic spectrophotometry (WS/T 107-2006).Results A total of 1 182 and 1 437 salt samples was detected in Shanxi Province in 2011 and 2014,the median of salt iodine was 30.5 and 24.1 mg/kg,respectively,and the difference was statistically significant (H =567.45,P < 0.01);it was 95.41%,80.31%,76.62% of the coverage rate of iodized salt, qualified rate of iodized salt, qualified iodized salt consumption rate in 2014,respectively;which were compared with those in 2011 (97.63%,97.49%,95.18%),the differences were statistically significant (x2 =9.27,232.40,166.25,P < 0.01).A total of 440 and 630 urinary samples of pregnant women were tested in 2011 and 2014,the median of urinary iodine was 279.6 and 177.1 μg/L,respectively,iodine nutrition of pregnant women was more than adequate in 2011,and iodine nutrition was suitable in 2014.The difference was statistically significant (H =153.89,P < 0.01).The proportion of pregnant women's median of urinary iodine less than 150 μg/L in 2014 [41.11% (259/ 630)] was significantly higher than that in 2011 [8.18% (36/440),x2 =140.68,P < 0.01].The constituent ratio of 250 to 500 μg/L was significantly decreased [23.65% (149/630) vs 54.77% (241/440),x2 =108.33,P < 0.01).Conclusion It is at a reasonable level of iodine nutrition level of pregnant women in Shanxi after the adjustment of iodized salt content, but the ratio of < 150 μg/L is increasing, which needs to be paid attention to.

Yi-Gan San (YGS), a traditional Chinese medicine for dementia-related symptoms, was previously fractionated. One active fraction, YGS40 exhibited a neuroprotective effect against glutamate-induced cytotoxicity. In the present study, high-performance liquid chromatography, coupled with diode-array detection and quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry, was applied for the identification of its chemical constituents and for quantification studies. The chemical profile of YGS40 consisted of sixty-four identified or tentatively characterized compounds. The levels of the major marker compounds increased significantly in the mixed decoction compared with those in the single plant decoction. The results suggest the high precision of the analyses of most of the constituents in YGS40 and establish the quantitative variations of the major marker compounds between the single and mixed decoction processes.
