Gastrodia elatais graded as top medication in theShen Nong’s Herbal Classic. It was mainly distributed in southwest China. Its quality varied with geographical location. And the quality difference between wild and cultivated sample was extreme. Identifications using traditional methods were unable to accurately distinguish the quality ofG. elata. Therefore, near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy combined with pattern recognition method was used to distinguish the quality ofG. elata from different geographical locations as well as cultivated or wild. The results demonstrated that using NIR spectroscopy combined with multiclass classification algorithm, the geographical location ofG. elata can be accurately distinguished. The prediction accuracy can reach as high as 94.3% and 96.4% for both applications. Besides, the classification model was built without preprocessing; hence, it can be extended to be applied on-site.

OBJECTIVE:To train the students’ability about true-and-false identification of pini pollen, typhae pollen and Lygo-dium japonicum. METHODS:Teachers firstly used flexible and diversifided teaching methods to train the learning interest of stu-dents,and then picture antithesis, classroom presentation and other methods were used to teach the distinctive features between the true and false traditional Chinese medicine in the characters of identification. RESULTS&CONCLUSIONS:There were obvious dif-ference among the colors, physicochmical poperties, microscopic characteristics and other aspects of 3 traditional Chinese medi-cines. According to the teaching, the students could not only distinguish the 3 traditional Chinese medicines accurately, but also could identify the true-and-false of them. picture antithesis and classroom presentation method are simple and vivid, and can be used for the training of students’ability about true-and-false identification.

Objective To explore the effects of low frequency electric stimulation at bilateral mastoid processes on motor function and cerebral blood flow of children with cerebral palsy (CP). Methods Ninety children with CP were randomly divided into two groups: an electric stimulation group (group 1) and an conventional rehabilitation control group (group 2), thirty healthy children served as the normal control group. The children of group 1 were treated with FES in addition to the routine rehabilitation treatment. The children of group 2 were given of the routine rehabilitation treatment only. All the patients were treated successively with the above protocol for 3 months. The clinical effect and motor development were evaluated with the gross motor function measure (GMFM), and the blood flow velocities of anterior cerebral artery (ACA), middle cerebral artery (MCA), posterior cerebral artery (PCA) were measured by transcranial doppler (TCD) ultrasound before and after treatment. Results In group 1, significant or some improvement were achieved in 19 and 24 CP children, respectively, with an effective rate of 95.6% . In group 2, significant or some improvement were achieved in 10 and 27 CP children, respectively, with an effective rate of 82.2%. There was significant difference between the two groups with regard to the significant effective rate (P

A 36-year-old female presented with multiple dark brown papules on the chest and abdomen for more than 10 years, which had gradually increased in number.Physical examination revealed dozens of dark brown, flat papules measuring 1-3 mm in diameter in the chest and abdomen. Most of the lesions had a smooth surface, and some lesions gave a papilloma-like appearance, with no confluent trend.Biopsy of abdominal lesions showed mild hyperkeratosis of epidermis, acanthosis, extension of epidermal protrusions forming a reticulated appearance, horn pseudocysts in prickle cell layer, enhanced pigmentation of basal layer, and a sparse lymphocytic perivascular infiltrate in superficial dermis.A diagnosis of dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPN) was made.

Objective To explore the curative effect of local oxygen therapy in combination with external application of Houfengsan and vitamin AD mixture in the treatment of red breech. Methods 100children with red breech were divided randomly into the treatment group and the control group with 50 cases in each group. The treatment group was treated with direct local oxygen blowing for 10~15 minutes and applying mixture of Houfengsan and vitamin AD, the control group was treated with 3% zinc oxide unguent. The treatment effect and cure time were compared between the two groups. Results The total efficient rate of the treatment group was 100% ,which was higher than that of the control group. The cure time of the treatment group was (3.92±0.98) days ,and (6.66t1.46) days in the control group, and the difference was significant between the two groups. Conclusions Local oxygen blowing with external application of mixture of Houfengsan and vitamin AD is easy to accept by children, safe, economical and simple to operate. It is an effective method to treat red breech.

An ordered mesoporous silica ( OMS ) was synthesized through hydrothermal process. The synthesized material was characterized by different techniques such as X-ray diffraction, nitrogen adsorption-desorption and transmission electron microscope. The electrochemical characteristics of the OMS modified carbon paste electrode ( OMS/CPE ) were investigated by using cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Compared with bare carbon paste electrode ( CPE ) , the OMS/CPE exhibited a larger electrode surface and a faster electron-transfer rate. Electrochemical behaviors and kinetic properties of L-tryptophan ( L-Trp) at the OMS/CPE in the presence of sodium dodecylsulphate ( SDS) were studied. The results showed that the voltammetric response of L-Trp at OMS/CPE was improved due to the synergistic effect of OMS and SDS. The electrochemical oxidation of L-Trp at OMS/CPE in the presence of SDS was an irreversible process involved two electrons and two protons, and the electrode process was controlled by the adsorption step. Some parameters such as SDS concentration, accumulation time, accumulation potential and pH were optimized. Under optimal conditions, the oxidation peak current was linearly proportional to L-Trp concentration in the range of 8. 0×10-8 to 4. 0×10-6 mol/L, with a detection limit of 7. 0×10-8 mol/L (S/N=3 ) . The proposed method was applied for the determination of L-Trp in oral liquid with the recoveries of 99 . 6%-102 . 6%.

AIM: HLCDG1 is a novel gene cloned recently, and its expression inhibits significantly the growth of A549 cells and tumorigenesis of A549 cells transplanted in nude mice. In this study, our aim was to construct HLCDG1 gene short/small interference double-strand RNA (siRNAs) expression vector and to observe its influence on cell cycle and proliferation of A549 cells. METHODS: Using RNA interference (RNAi) techniques, a DNA vector-driven siRNAs expression vector was constructed, and a lung carcinoma cell line stably expressing siRNAs was also selected. Sequentially, using flow cytometry analysis and MTT assay, the changes of cell cycle and cell proliferation in this cell line were observed. RESULTS: Four site-match and one site-mismatch plasmids were constructed, which were named pHL-si-1, pHL-si-2, pHL-si-3, pHL-si-4 and pHL-si-c. These plasmids were co-transfected with a pcDNA3.1(+)/HLCDG1 plasmid into A549 cells, respectively. Among five co-transfected A549 cell lines, a A549 cell line co-transfected by the pcDNA3.1(+)/HLCDG1 and pHL-si-1 plasmids, namely A549-HLCDG1-si-1, showed nearly complete inhibition of HLCDG1 expression. MTT assay and flow cytometry analysis indicated that A549-HLCDG1-si-1 cells, namely the HLCDG1 gene-silencing cells, got a faster growth compared with other HLCDG1 expression cell lines, and that HLCDG1 gene-silencing induced A549-HLCDG1-si-1 cells into S phase and G_2+M phase significantly. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that the HLCDG1 gene is proved to have a markedly inhibitory effect on growth in A549 lung carcinoma cells. This study might provide some understanding of the biological function and molecular mechanism of HLCDG1 gene.
