1.Effects of resin cements on hardness and thickness around titanium post: an intraradicular assessment

The purpose of this study was to evaluate hardness (indicator for polymerization) and thickness of two types of resin cement at coronal, middle and apical level of tooth root canal. Ten extracted maxillary incisors were instrumented and post space was prepared for cementation of titanium post. Samples were divided into two groups and each group was cemented either of the two types of resin cements; Panavia F [dual-cured (PF)] and Rely X Luting 2 [self-cured (RL)]. The teeth were longitudinally sectioned; hardness and thickness was measured using Vickers hardness tester and a microscope (Leica DMLM). SEM observations along the cement line at the 3 different root levels were performed. Statistical analysis was performed to test significance of differences in hardness and thickness of the two types of cement (t-test; p= 0.05) and at different levels of the same type (one-way ANOVA followed by multiple comparison; p= 0.05). Significant difference of hardness was found at the apical level between the two groups and between the coronal and apical level of PF (p<0.05); no significant differences in hardness and thickness were observed in RL (p>0.05). Moreover, voids were more obvious within the dual-cured group of cement. Dual-cured resin cement was found to be less polymerized than self-cured type at apical level. Increased thicknesses of resin cements in comparison to post space size were observed in both groups. Use of metallic post with resin cements needs further evaluation.
2.Improving aesthetic of a cast cobalt chrome partial denture with custom made porcelain tooth: a case report

Replacing a single missing anterior tooth can be a challenge. Many factors need to be considered when choosing the appropriate treatment. Several treatment options are well established. This case report is to present the use of a cast cobalt chrome partial denture with custom made porcelain tooth to improve aesthetic. The overall shade of the artificial tooth were nicely matched with the adjacent teeth and definite enamel translucency could be achieved which would not be possible with acrylic or even with readymade porcelain tooth.
3.Isolation and identification of multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli from cattle, sheep, poultry and human in Cumilla, Bangladesh

Aims:
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a significant public health concern of modern civilization. The potential risk of AMR is significant in terms of both human and animal health. This study aims to assess the antimicrobial resistance pattern of selected antimicrobials against Escherichia coli of animal, poultry and human origin in the Cumilla district of Bangladesh.
Methodology and results:
A total of 200 samples were collected from different sources. Isolation and identification of commensal E. coli were performed following standard bacteriological and molecular techniques. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed following the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion technique. Ampicillin, tetracycline and sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim resistance genes were detected by polymerase chain reactions (PCR). A total of 152 (76%; 95% confidence interval (CI) 70-81%) E. coli were isolated from cattle, sheep, chicken and human, where 37.5% of isolates were found to be multidrug-resistant (MDR). In the cultural sensitivity test, E. coli showed the highest resistance to sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim (71%), tetracycline (63%), ampicillin (62%), where gentamicin (23%) showed the lowest resistance, followed by ceftriaxone (26%). The prevalence of resistance genes like blaTEM, tetA, tetB, tetC, sul1 and sul2 were 100%, 95%, 11%, 8%, 58% and 52%, respectively.
Conclusion, significance and impact of study
The emergence of multidrug-resistant commensal E. coli and resistance genes circulating in animals, poultry and humans limit the treatment options for serious infections.
