Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2009;15(2):129-131
Objective To investigate the expression changes of aquaporin-1 (AQP1) and aquaporin-9 (AQP9) in rats after traumatic brain injury, and explore the roles of AQP1 and AQP9 in the development of brain edema. Methods In an impact-acceleration head injury model of rat, brain water content was measured by wet-dry weight method at 1 h, 6 h, 24 h, 48 h and 168 h after brain trauma. The expressions of AQP1 and AQP9 in brains were investigated by immunohistochemistry and Western blot. Results Brain water content increased in the injuried brain tissues after 1 h post-injury, reached peak at 24 h and returned at 168 h. Both expressions of AQP1 and AQP9 were induced in reactive astrocytes adjacent to injury sit at 6 h and 24 h after brain trauma. Staining of AQP1 in the endothelial cells was not present in normal rat brains but appeared strong after brain trauma. Conclusion A remarkable induction expression of AQP1 or AQP9 after brain trauma may participate in the development of brain edema.
3.The effect of a program of physical therapy on function of patients with total hip replacement
Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 1999;5(3):117-120
To study the effect of a program of physical therapy,40 subjects with total hip replacement for femoral neck fracture were randomized into rehabilitation and control groups. The program included ROM exercises, low resistance exercises of hip abductors and ADL exercises.Muscle strength of hip abductors were measured by Kendall's Muscle Testing and Function, hip ROM,functional ability and pain were evaluated by Harris Hip score on the lst and 3rd month after surgery.Statistical analysis with t test was used for comparing Harris Hip scores. The result shows that muscle strength and hip function were improved significantly in rehabilitation group (p<0.05).That means the program is effective in long term after hip replacement.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)have inherent tumor-trophic migratory properties and low immunogenicity, which allow them to serve as vehicles for delivering effective, targeted therapy to tumors.MSC plays an anti-tumor role by releasing some cytokines, which can be strengthened by oncolytic virus,antiangio-genesis agent, tumor necrosis factor guided apoptosis ligand,IL,IFN and pro-drug.In addition, there are some advantages in combination treatment of MSC and others therapies.

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy and safety of compound hypoglycemic Yuye oral liquor combined with metfo-ma and glimepiride in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus ( deficiency of both Qi and Yin) . Methods:Totally 80 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group with 40 each, both groups were treated with met-formin hydrochloride tablets and glimepiride tablets, the treatment group was given compound hypoglycemic Yuye oral liquor additional-ly, and the treatment duration was 12 weeks. At the end of the treatment, fasting plasma glucose( FPG) , postprandial 2 hours plasma glucose(2hPG), hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM ) syndrome in the two groups were compared. Re-sults:In both groups, FPG, 2hPG and HbAlc were decreased after the treatment, and the decrease in the treatment group was more notable than that in the control group with statistically significant difference (P<0. 05 or P<0. 01). As for TCM syndrome, the score in the treatment group was lower than that in the control group with statistically significant difference (P<0. 01). The clinical efficien-cy in the treatment group was 47. 5%, that was 22. 5% in the control group, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0. 05). Conclusion:Compound hypoglycemic Yuyeoral liquor can reduce the blood glucose in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients( deficiency of Qi and Yin) , and the improvement of clinical symptom is striking with good safety and clinical application value.

Objective To investigate the protective effects of calcium channel blockade and oxygen free radical catalase on ESWL-induced kidney damage. Methods 120 female uninephrectomized rat models were randomizedly divided into six groups. After verapamil and(or) SOD injection, the kidneys were shocked 1 000 times at 14kV by ESW.Then ET level in kidney tissue, levels of NAG,MDA,ET in urine, variation of creatinine clearance (Ccr) and the kidney histopathological changes were evaluated. Results The variation of NAG and MDA level in urine and the Ccr in the therapeutic groups were significantly lower and the histopathological changes were also much slight than those in the control group. There was no significant difference of the biochemical and pathological changes when the dose of SOD increased from 20 thousand units to 40 thousand units per kg body weight. If verapamil was used, the levels of ET in kidney tissue and in urine both decreased.Combined use of SOD and verapamil can induce better protective effects. Conclusions Calcium channel blokade could decrease not only the degree of lipid overoxidation, but also the level of ET-relieve,so it can induce a marked protective effect on ESW-induced kidney damage and the effect could be much enhanced if combined with SOD.

ObjectiveTo investigate the disruption of blood-brain barrier (BBB) after brain trauma in rats using IgG immunohistochemical staining.MethodsAn impact-acceleration head injury model was established with rats. Histological changes of rats' brains were observed by HE staining and light and electron microscopes at 1 h, 6 h, 24 h and 7 d after injury, and BBB permeability was analyzed semi-quantitatively by IgG immunohistochemical staining at the same time points.ResultsThe spot bleeding and brain edema was present in the damage region after brain trauma and endothelial cell damage and astrocyte swelling could be found under electron microscope. The extravasations of IgG was detected in the injured hemisphere of rats at 1 h, and achieved the peak at 6 h, remained a high level up to 24 h, and decreased at 7th d.ConclusionThe disruption of BBB function occurs after brain trauma in rats, and detection of IgG extravasations tested by immunohistochemical staining is a simple and sensitive way to investigate BBB permeability.
