BACKGROUND: Pathological changes of form and structure are induced in some tissues during repairing albuginea penis trauma, while structure and component of collagen fiber will be correspondingly changed necessarily.OBJECTIVE: To find a convenient, shortcut, and sensitive method to observe the dynamic change of type and distribution of collagen fiber during albuginea penis healing. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A contrast study was performed at the Laboratory of Tissue Engineering, Guiyang Medical College between June 2005 and October 2007. MATERIALS: Fifteen male New Zealand rabbits were used in this study. METHODS: All rabbits underwent an excision of albuginea sizing 5 mm×5 mm at dorsal penis to establish models of albuginea penis trauma, and then the excision was sutured in situ. Thereafter, albuginea penis was obtained from five rabbits once after 2, 6, and 12 weeks. The samples were treated with picric-sirius red staining and observed under polarizing microscope. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Dynamic changes of area of collagen fiber during albuginea penis healing.RESULTS: There were significant differences in content of the same collagen fiber at different time points (P<0.05). At 2 weeks post-trauma, both type Ⅰ and type Ⅲ collagen fibers were observed, and the ratio was equal, but the arrangement was confused and disorder. At 6 weeks post-trauma, red and yellow type Ⅰ collagen fiber was apparently increased, but type Ⅲ collagen fiber was decreased, and the arrangement was still disorder. At 12 weeks post-trauma, thick, bright red and yellow type Ⅰ collagen fiber was rapidly increased, but thin and green type Ⅲ collagen fiber was rapidly decreased.CONCLUSION: Picric-sirius red polarized light method can not only differentiate types of collagen fiber, but also clearly display the distribution, form and proportion of type Ⅰ and type Ⅲ collagen fiber, characterizing by simple, convenient, specific, and highly sensitive.

National Journal of Andrology 2013;19(3):266-269
The pathogenesis of male infertility involves the interactions between environmental and genetic factors. An individual's susceptibility to male infertility is influenced by his internal abilities of metabolizing and detoxicating endogenous and exogenous chemicals. Glutathione-S-transferases (GSTs), such as enzymes, are involved in the cellular detoxication of various physiological and xenobiotic substances. Studies show that the polymorphism of the GSTs gene is correlated with male infertility. GSTs polymorphism-related susceptibilities to male infertility were found similar but with some inconsistencies within the same community, and inconsistent with some similarities among different communities. Therefore, further studies are to be done on the differences in GSTs polymorphism-related susceptibility to male infertility in different communities.

OBJECTIVETo explore gender difference of relationship between occupational stress and depressive symptoms.
METHODSThe cross-sectional study was used to investigate 5338 workers in 13 factories and companies, the depressive symptoms were assessed with Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) and the perceived occupational stress was evaluated by the Chinese version of the Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ) and Effort-Reward Imbalance (ERI) Model Questionnaire. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to estimate the associations between occupational stress and prevalence of depressive symptoms.
RESULTSPrevalence of depressive symptoms was 31.8% for all subjects, 33.8% for males and 27.7% for females, gender difference of prevalence was significant (P < 0.01). Psychological demands, physical demands, job control, effort, overcommitment and negative affectivity scores for males were significantly higher than those for females(P < 0.01 or 0.05), social support, reward and job satisfaction scores for males were significantly lower than those for females (P < 0.01). Psychological demands, physical demands, job control, effort, overcommitment and negative affectivity scores for workers with depressive symptoms were significantly higher than those for workers without depressive symptoms (P < 0.01) but job control, social support, reward, job satisfaction and positive affectivity scores for workers with depressive symptoms were significantly lower than those for without depressive symptoms (P < 0.01). Psychological demands, physical demands, job control, effort, overcommitment and negative affectivity scores for male workers with depressive symptoms were significantly higher than those for female counterparts (P < 0.01), but social support, reward, job satisfaction scores for male workers with depressive symptoms were significantly lower than hose for female workers with depressive symptoms (P < 0.01). Ratio of male workers and male workers with depressive symptoms with job strain and ERI > 1, high demands and low control, and high effort and low reward were higher than female counterparts (P < 0.01). The risk of depressive symptoms for female with high demands and low control was about two times as high as that for female workers with low demands and high control for psychological demands and physical demands (OR = 2.0), risk for females was slightly higher than that for males (OR = 2.04 and 2.17, respectively). The risk of depressive symptoms for workers with high efforts and low rewards was about two times as high as that for workers with low efforts and high rewards (OR = 1.70). No interactive effect between gender and job strain and ERI on depressive symptoms were found.
CONCLUSIONThe gender difference of relationship between depressive symptom prevalence and job strain may due to the difference of psychosocial factors between females and males. There may be no interactive effect between psychosocial factors and gender on depressive symptoms.

Objective To investigate the typical value of gamma-radiation dose rate and its confidence interval in tank-transported copper ore by using bootstrap resampling techniques. Methods Bootstrap resampling method, coupled with kernel density estimation, introduced to acquire the typical value of gamma-radiation dose rate in copper ore. Results The typical value of gamma-radiation dose rate in copper ore was expressed as the central tendency of the means of resampling, and two kinds of confidence interval, empirical percentile and bias-corrected accelerated confidence interval, were provided as standard error. Conclusion It is clearly demonstrated that this method has an advantage to give a robust description in explanation of central tendency and variation range of gamma-radiation dose rate data profiles.
