250 patients with ages of 30-50 received the mammography in the Institute of Mother and Infant Protection and Care during 4/1998 - 4/1999. The results showed that patients came to examine because of the mechanical symptoms and X-ray (37.2%) in which 72% found having the physical lesion. The physical symptoms accounted for 62.8% of which 92% found having lesion on the X-ray. The lesion of the right breast, left breast and both breast were 44%, 56% and 40%, respectively. The lesion included fibrosis, tumor and complex lesion.

There are several types of medical certificates and written expert opinions (or judicial reports) which medical doctors have to issue. Author summarized medicolegal demand on medical certificates and written expert opinions separately. Kinds and items of medical certificates were listed. And 10 cases of death certificate in Japan were introduced and analyzed. About judicial reports, definition and legal background as well as general principles of framing of judicial reports including preface, examination records, explanation of results and considerations, and judicial examination and signature were also mentioned.

Interplay between migraine and balance disorder morbidities has been a topic of interest for many years. Migrainous vertigo (MV) is acknowledged as a common cause of episodic vertigo. Like migraine itself, MV is diagnosed on the basis of clinical information as there are no specific biological makers. A preliminary classification proposed two separate diagnostic categories: definite and probable MV. For treatment of MV, it is suggested that drugs used for migraine may be effective. However, current treatment recommendations are generally based on expert opinion rather than ran-domized or controlled trials. Therefore, large prospective, multi-center studies are necessary to better define criteria and optimal treatment.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a diagnosis of exclusion and the lesions or objective findings should disseminate in space and time to diagnose MS. The diagnostic criteria of MS have continuously evolved overtime. The McDonald criteria were originally proposed in 2001, and the revised 2010 McDonald criteria have been used widely. Scientific advances in the past 7 years since 2010 induced the revised 2017 McDonald criteria. All revisions relied entirely on the available evidences, and not expert opinion. In this review, we will provide an overview of the way to diagnose MS and the 2017 McDonald criteria.

To know recent status and the point at issue of postmortem investigation in Jeju, the southernmost island in Korea has short history of forensic practice, we analyzed unnatural deaths investigated in Jeju during the five years of 1988 through 2002 inclusively. Of the total number of unnatural deaths (1, 118), 349 of the deceased (31.2%) were studied by autopsy in this period. Advisably, the annual autopsy rate was increased gradually with an increase of unnatural deaths. Drowning occupied large proportion (25.6%) of unnatural deaths. A sudden increase of thermal injury and intoxication in 2002 has attracted attention. Postmortem investigation conducted by prosecutor without participation of expert witness involves a lot of risk and that is one of the current nationwide issue as well as in Jeju. In conclusion, the role of forensic specialist in scene investigation and necessity of administrative support for improvement of medicolegal investigation system in Jeju. is emphasized.

Pharmacogenetics is a rapidly evolving field, and the number of pharmacogenetic tests for clinical use is steadily increasing. However, incorrect or inadequate implementation and use of pharmacogenetic testing in clinical practice may result in an increase in medical costs and adverse patient outcomes. This document contains suggested pharmacogenetic testing guidelines for clinical application, interpretation, and reporting of the results through a literature review and evidence-based expert opinions. The clinical laboratory practice guideline includes clinical pharmacogenetic testing covered by public medical insurance in Korea. Technical, ethical, and regulatory issues related to clinical pharmacogenetic testing are also addressed. This document aims to improve the utility of pharmacogenetic testing in routine clinical settings.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to suggest the projected manpower of hospice and palliative care nurses & APNs(advanced practice nurses)needed in the future. METHOD: Need model, ratio model and expert opinion were used for projecting the number of hospice and palliative care nurses & APNs. RESULT: 1. The number of Korean hospice facilities was 64 in 2002. The number of hospice nurses in 2001 was 194 and that of beds was 407. 2. The number of hospice target patients was estimated at a minimum of 16,415 to a maximum of 25,254 in 2002, 12,366 to 26,389 in 2005, and 14,057 to 30,000 in 2020. 3. The number of hospice and palliative nurses needed to meet the demands in 2002, 2005 and 2020 was estimated at a minimum of 1,136 to maximum of 1,748, 1,187 to 1,826, and 1,349 to 2,076, respectively. 4. The number of hospice & palliative care APNs needed to meet the demands in 2002, 2005 and 2020 was estimated at 232, 242, and 274, respectively. CONCLUSION: The legalization of hospice is expected to increase demands for hospice nurses and advanced practice hospice and palliative care nurses in the future.
