1.THE EFFECT OF PIGMENTED RICE ON HEMOGLOBIN REGENERATION IN ANEMIC RATS
Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(02):-
Hemoglobin (Hb) regeneration method in rats was used to prove the effect of pigmented rice on iron dificiency anemia (IDA). IDA was induced in 90 Wistar male weaning rats by feeding low iron diet for 25 days. Fifty of the anemic rats were divided into 5 groups; low iron, nonpigmented milled rice, pigmented milled rice, pigmented semibrown rice and control (compared only with the pigmented milled rice group). The result of 30 days experiment showed that pigmented rice was superior to nonpigmented rice in Hb regeneration and the semibrown was superior to the milled. Pigmented rice, especially the semibrown, was found to possess more iron than nonpigmented rice. There was a close correlation between the degree of Hb regeneration and the quantity of iron taken by rats or the quantity of iron in diets. These evidences suggested that pigmented rice had certain prophylactic and curing effect against IDA and this was probably due to its higher iron content.
2.EFFECTS OF DIETARY COPPER DEFICIENCY ON THEENZYMATIC COMPONENTS OF THE PRIMARYFREE RADICAL DEFENSE SYSTEMAND SERUM HEMOLYSININ RATS
Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(02):-
Weanling Wistar rats were fed a modified AIN-76 diet ad libitum for 25 to 57 days, either copper-deficient (0.49mg/kg; CuD) or copper-adequate (6.44mg/kg;CuA). The effects of dietary copper deficiency on the enzymatic components of the primary free radical defense system-super-oxide dismutase (SOD), catalasc (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), lipoperoxides (LPO) and serum hemolysin were examined. The amount of LPO exhibited no significant change even though SOD activity decreased significantly in the tissues of CuD rats, which indicated that Cu-ZnSOD activity responded directly to copper status of the body but the compromises in the overall protection against free radicals were not evident. The profound reduction in scrum hemolysin in CuD rats suggests that humoral immune function is copper dependent. The results also suggest that as an index of evaluating copper nutriture CuZnSOD is more sensitive than hemoglobin to copper deficiency.
3.INFLUENCE OF DIETARY FAT ON LIVER AND SERUM LIPID AS WELL AS ON ERYTHROCYTE MEMBRANE IN RATS
Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(01):-
To investigate the effects of dietary fatty acids on liver and serum lipid as well as on erythrocyte membrane, 23%(w/w) lard (as saturated fatty acids SFA), 23%(w/w) corn oil (as polyunsaturated fatty acids PUFA) and 5%(w/w) corn oil (as low fatty acids LFA control) were fed respectively to three groups of Wistar rats for 35 and 63 days. The study showed that the pattern of liver fatty acids was correlated with that of dietary fatty acids. Serum VLDL-Ch was lowered in PUFA group when compared with that in SFA group. The osmotic fragility and hemolytic rate of RBC were elevated in PUFA group, but lowered in SFA group. The membrane fluidity of RBC in PUFA group tended to increase. The immune adhesive activity of RBC C3b receptor was impaired when high dietary fat (PUFA, SFA) were given to rats. This study indicates that high dietary fatty acids have adverse effect on RBC membrane structure and immune adhesive function. That high PUFA is good for health is not always correct.

Objective To investigate the role of Huang-qi in balance of TH1/TH2 in asthma on dendritic cells level. Methods DCs from human peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMC) were induced by rhGM-CSF and rhIL-4, and then were identified. The level of IL-12 and IL-10 produced by DCs were de-tected by ELISA assay. After autoreactive T cells, mRNA of T-bet and GATA-3 was measured by RT-PCR. Simultaneously, IL-4 and IFN-γ were determined by flow cytometer. Results After 7 days culture, IL-12 was significantly decreased in asthma group compared to control group (P < 0.01), whereas IL-10 on the opposite. At the 7th day of co-culture with T cells derived from floating cells, the IFN-γ/and T-bet mRNA level in asthma group were significantly decreased than that in control group, whereas IL-4, GATA-3 mRNA level, the ratio of IL-4/IFN-γ and GATA-3/T-bet were apparently increased in asthma group than that in control group(P<0.01). After Huang-qi treatment, the IFN-γ/and T-bet mRNA level were significantly in-creased, whereas the ratio of IL-4/IFN-γ and GATA-3/T-bet, and the IL-10 level were apparently de-creased, but the level of IL-12, IL-4 and GATA-3 mRNA were not changed significantly. Conclusion DCs in asthma regulated the balance of TH1/TH2 by means of secreting decreased IL-12 and increased IL-10, that made TH2 playing a dominance role which is the key factor in initiating asthma. Huang-qi regulated DCs through decreasing the level of IL-10, and thus decreased the ability of inhibiting the differentiation of TH1 from TH0, that is also inhibiting the differentiation of TH2 from TH0 directly.

Objective To identify the role of IL-17A during respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in-fection in a mouse model. Methods Female wild-type C57BL/6 mice and IL-17A knockout ( IL-17A-/-) mice at the age of 6 to 8 weeks were both randomly divided into two groups:control and RSV groups. Mice in the control groups were given the supernatant of Hep-2 cell culture, while those in the RSV groups were treated with RSV A2 through intranasal administration. Leukocytes in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid ( BALF) samples were counted. Left lung tissues were stained with hematoxylin and eosin ( HE ) to evaluate his-topathological scores. Airway hyperresponsiveness ( AHR) was measured by whole-body plethysmography. The concentrations of IFN-γ were determined with ELISA. RSV titers were measured by plaque assay. To assess the effects of IL-17A on IFN-γproduction and its role in RSV infection, IL-17A-/- mice were treated with exogenous recombinant murine IFN-γ or IL-17A, while wild-type mice were given IFN-γ neutralizing antibody intervention. Results The counts of inflammatory cells and neutrophils in BALF, lung tissue his-topathological scores, AHR, IFN-γlevels and virus titers of the wild-type group were higher than those of the IL-17A-/-group after RSV infection. IFN-γlevels, inflammatory cell counts in BALF, AHR and lung tissue histopathological scores were significantly increased in RSV-infected IL-17A-/- mice after the intervention of recombinant murine IL-17A or IFN-γ. RSV titers were much higher in the recombinant murine IL-17A-trea-ted group, but not affected by the recombinant murine IFN-γ intervention. Inflammatory cell counts in BALF, AHR and lung tissue histopathological scores were significantly decreased in RSV-infected wild-type mice following IFN-γ neutralizing antibody treatment, but no significant changes were found in RSV titers. Conclusions IL-17A might be involved in the pathogenesis of pulmonary diseases during RSV infection through promoting IFN-γ production and inhibiting viral clearance in mice.

Objective:To investigate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of pulse oximetry among pediatric healthcare providers in China and analyze the factor influencing the KAP.Methods:A self-developed questionnaire was used for an online research on the KAP of 11 849 pediatric healthcare providers from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities of China from March 11 to 14, 2022.The factors influencing the KAP of pulse oximetry among pediatric healthcare providers were examined by Logistic regression. Results:The scores of KAP, of pulse oximetry were 5.57±0.96, 11.24±1.25 and 11.19±4.54, respectively. The corresponding scoring rates were 69.61%, 74.95%, and 55.99%, respectively. Logistic regression results showed that the gender and working years of pediatric healthcare providers, the region they were located, and whether their medical institution was equipped with pulse oximeters were the main factors affecting the knowledge score (all P<0.05). Main factors influencing the attitude score of pediatric healthcare providers included their knowledge score, gender, educational background, working years, region, medical institution level, and whether the medical institution was equipped with pulse oximeters (all P<0.05). For the practice score, the main influencing factors were the knowledge score, gender, age, and whether the medi-cal institution was equipped with pulse oximeters (all P<0.05). Conclusions:Chinese pediatric healthcare providers need to further improve their knowledge about and attitudes towards pulse oximetry.Pulse oximeters are evidently under-used.It is urgent to formulate policies or guidelines, strengthen education and training, improve knowledge and attitudes, equip more institutions with pulse oximeters, and popularize their application in medical institutions.
