[Objective]Menstrual disorders are generic symptoms that appear during a menstrual cycle. In this study we examined three years of medical records retrospectively in order to investigate the effects of acupuncture treatment on menstrual disorders. We compared a group of women with diseases 'D'with to no diseases 'N'with respect to the effects of short-term acupuncture treatment.
[Methodology]Subjects for this research were 203women with menstrual disorders who came to our office during the period January 2009 -March 2012. The only treatment they were given was traditional Chinese medicine. We used BL 32, BL 35, GV 2, GV 4, and SP 6 as acupuncture points. We inserted stainless steel acupuncture needles (40 mm long, 1.8 mm in diameter) to a depth of 20 mm at BL 32 and 10 mm at SP 6. Other points were treated three times with kyubu-moxibution (burnt 90%). Treatment was provided once every 1-2 weeks. A Menstrual Distress Questionnaire (MDQ) was used to judge treatment effectiveness. We classified the 203women into two groups;one was 'D'group (n = 46) and the other was 'N'group (n = 157). Concerning the eight items from the MDQ we compared each woman's condition before the first treatment after one menstrual cycle. This time we paid attention to premenstrual and menstrual periods. 'D'group was observed through three menstrual cycles.
[Results]The average number of treatments during one menstrual cycle was 2.2. Both groups had reduced scores for 6 prementstrual symptoms (p < 0.05). During menstrual period, 'D'had reduced scores for 3items, 'N'had reduced scores for 5 items;(p < 0.05). 'D'confirmed continuous effects of treatment. The effects on premenstrual symptoms were confirmed, "Pain"during all three menstrual cycles, "Water retention"during the second and third menstrual cycles, and "Concentration"during the third menstrual cycle. The effects during the menstrual period were also confirmed, "Pain"for all three menstrual cycles, and "Water retention"and "Behavioral change"during the third menstrual period (p < 0.05).
[Discussion]Concerning the effects of acupuncture treatment for menstrual disorders, 'D'had higher MDQ scores than 'N'. After one menstrual cycle, 'D'showed less improvement of MDQ items than 'N'. But continuous acupuncture treatments reduced menstrual disorder symptoms for 'D'.
[Conclusion]We have confirmed the effects of acupuncture treatment on menstrual cycle symptoms. In one menstrual cycle, 'N'showed more improvement than 'D'. But during three menstrual cycles 'N'experienced continuous effects of treatment.

Kochi Prefecture is noted for its high mortality rate attributable to degenerative diseases. Among them, cardiovascular disease takes the heaviest toll of lives.
In quest of risk factors associated with the scourge, we probed into its possible relations with lipid in the blood, specifically with total serum cholesterol levels. At the same time, we took note of nutritional aspects.
Our study found that the cardiovascular death rate has a negative correlation to total serum cholesterol levels and that the subjects who scored low total cholesterol values were exceedingly ill-fed as compared with ordinary people.
This finding suggests that, in Kochi Prefecture, the lowering of total serum cholesterol levels triggered off by unbalanced nutritional conditions may increase the chance of succumbing to car-diovascular disease.

Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury often occurs as a result of knee valgus collapse during landing or pivoting in sports activity. Previous studies reported that the risk of ACL injuries was reduced by jump and balance training, and those training can be effective as the prevention program for the ACL injuries. But those studies often focused on only adult athletes, and there are few studies focused on junior athletes. The purpose of this study is to investigate the pattern of landing movement in junior athletes, and to verify the effect of the prevention program. One-hundred and ten junior basketball players (boys; 61, girls;49, age ranging 12 to 15) were subjected in this study. We measured the knee flexion, valgus angles and jump height during continuous vertical jump. After measuring, they executed a prevention program for 12 weeks. The motion pattern of the knee during jump test were compaired between before and after prevention program. Female athletes showed greater knee valgus angle at initial landing phase and grater maximum knee valgus angle than those of males. As a result of the prevention program, maximum knee valgus angle was significantly decreased in female athletes. The greater angle of knee valgus in female may increase the risk of ACL injuries. Present study suggests that the prevention program is useful for reducing the risk of ACL injury. Increment of jump height in male players after this program might be considered that this training program has also an effect of performance improvement.

Objective: Anticancer drugs have carcinogenic potential and are associated with occupational exposure risks among healthcareprofessionals who handle them. To minimize occupational exposure, healthcare workers must be adequately aware of the risks ofanticancer drugs and the appropriate techniques for their preparation. However, there is little information on the awareness ofpharmacists who prepare anticancer drugs in medical settings. The aim of this study was to investigate awareness of hazardous drugs(HD) and appropriate preparation techniques among pharmacists, and identify problems that pharmacists experience in managing theirexposure to anticancer drugs.Design: Questionnaire.Method: The questionnaire was sent by e-mail or mail to pharmacists employed at 270 institutions who belonged to the Chiba Societyof Hospital Pharmacists. From September 2015 to March 2016, respondents completed the questionnaires voluntarily and returnedthem by mail. Returning the questionnaire was regarded as informed consent to participate in this survey. Based on the completedquestionnaires, we examined the awareness of pharmacists in their daily work.Results: In total, 218 questionnaires were returned (collection rate: 10%). Awareness of the risks of anticancer drugs was high, and ahigh percentage of respondents use personal protective equipment during drug preparation, but the use of closed system drug transferdevices was low. Overall, however, it was found that many pharmacists had insufficient understanding of safe handling techniques.Discussion: Despite some recognition of the risks associated with exposure to HD, the measures taken to prevent exposure toHDs―including anticancer drugs―were inadequate and this issue must be urgently addressed by medical institutions and pharmacists.Countermeasures such as training sessions in the handling of HDs and the development of manuals are needed for each facility.

Purpose: Naldemedine is a peripheral µ-opioid receptor antagonist, including the treatment of opioid-induced constipation (OIC) . However, diarrhea is known as its side effect. We conducted a study focusing on the administration period of opioid analgesics before the start of naldemedine to clear predictors of diarrhea due to Naldemedine. Method: All data were retrospectively collected from the electronic medical record system. We investigated patients who initially administrated naldemedine at Nagasaki University Hospital from June 1 2017 to March 31 2019. Result: One hundred thirty-two patients were subject of investigation. The incidence of diarrhea was 25.0%. The result of the multivariate analysis showed that significant predictors of diarrhea were associated with the opioid analgesics usage period longer than 7 days before naldemedine initiation (odds ratio: 3.76, 95% confidence interval: 1.53-9.20, p=0.004). Discussion: When naldemedine was used for OIC, diarrhea may be avoided by using within 7 days after opioid analgesics.

BACKGROUND: Systemic and local factors may lead to disruption of craniofacial growth and development, causing an imbalance between the orofacial skeleton, muscle and soft tissue, dental occlusion, and the dental arch during growth periods. We aimed to reveal whether the prevalence of incompetent lip seal (ILS) varies with age and region, as well as to clarify the factors related to an ILS, in a national, large-scale epidemiological study. METHODS: We surveyed 3399 children, from 3 to 12 years of age, visiting 66 pediatric dental clinics throughout Japan. For this survey, we employed a questionnaire consisting of 44 questions regarding daily health conditions and lifestyle habits. We evaluated the differences in ILS prevalence by age and region (using a Cochran-Armitage test for trend and a Kruskal-Wallis test), and the relationship between ILS and factors investigated in the questionnaire (using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient). RESULTS: We observed that 30.7% of Japanese children exhibited an ILS and that the ILS rate increased with age (p < 0.001). There were no regional differences in the rate of ILS in Japanese children (p = 0.506). We revealed that 12 of 44 survey items exhibited a statistically significant correlation with ILS (p < 0.001), using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. These items involved orofacial morphology, mouth breathing, and possibly, allergic rhinitis. CONCLUSION The rate of ILS seems to increase with age in children, throughout Japan. Therefore, this disorder may not self-correct during the growth periods in these children. Guidelines are required for pediatric dentists to recognize ILS among children aged 3-12 years.
