1.Relationship of myasthenia gravis and thyroid antibodies abnormal

Objective To study the relationship of levels of acetylcholine receptor antibody (AChRAb) and thyroid antibodies in patients with myasthenia gravis (MG) and thyroidism. Methods Thyroid function of FT3, FT4 and TSH, and thyroid antibodies including TSH receptor antibody ( TRAb), thyroid globulin antibody (TGAb) and thyroid microsome antibody (TMAb) were detected in 100 patients with MG and 100 healthy controls. Among them, 32 patients were further tested for AChRAb. The relationship between AChRAb and each of TRAb, TGAb and TMAb was analyzed along with their relevant clinical characteristics. Results Of 100 patients with MG, 12 cases ( 12% ) were hyperthyroidism and 4 cases (4%) were hypothyroidism, and 71 cases (71%) were thyroid antibodies positive. The percent of thyroid antibodies positive cases was significantly higher than that of thyroidism cases (χ2=4. 788, P < 0. 05 ). Analysis on AChRAb and TRAb in 32 AChRAb tested cases demonstrated a linear correlation (r= 0. 609, P = 0. 0002). Conclusions The incidence of thyroid antibody positive in MG cases is significantly higher than incidence of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism in MG. AChRAb and TRAb has a linear correlation.
2.The Factors Related to the Non-Practice of Cancer Screening in Cancer Survivors: Based on the 2007-2012 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

BACKGROUND: The aim of the current study was to investigate the factors related to the non-practice of cancer screening in cancer survivors, who are at high risk of developing second cancers. METHODS: This study is a cross-sectional analysis of 1,125 cancer survivors > or =19 years old who participated in the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys IV and V (2007-2012). A Rao-scott chi-square test and a survey logistic regression analysis were employed respectively to analyze the difference of cancer survivors in cancer screening by each characteristic and the factors related to the non-practice of cancer screening in cancer survivors. RESULTS: Among total subjects, 33.5% did not participate in cancer screening in the last two years. Results from a fully adjusted logistic model showed that the non-practice of cancer screening in cancer survivors was significantly associated with variables such as sex, age, marital status, education level, monthly income, and drinking a alcoholic beverage Specifically, the odds ratio of non-practice of cancer screening was higher in males than in females, in the younger group than in older group, in the group with no spouse than in the group with a spouse; in a group with a low level of education than in a group with a high level of education; in a group with the lowest income level than in a group with the other levels of income; or in non-drinkers than in drinkers. CONCLUSION: Health policies to reduce the non-practice rate of cancer screening in cancer survivors should be designed and implemented with close attention to cancer survivors\' socio-economic characteristics such as sex, age, marital status, education, and income, along with a health behavioral characteristic as drinking.

3.Results of Absorbable Mesh Insertion and Patient Satisfaction in Breast-Conserving Surgery.

PURPOSE: Breast-conserving surgery (BCS) is a standard treatment for breast cancer. Occasionally, patients may be dissatisfied with the breast shape due to deformity after BCS. To ensure satisfactory cosmetic results, a procedure with absorbable mesh after BCS was introduced in 2005. The purpose of this study was to identify the safety and effectiveness of this procedure. METHODS: From November 2013 to December 2015, patients who underwent BCS for a malignant breast mass at Jeonju Presbyterian Medical Center were reviewed, and 63 patients were included in this study. Based on data collected from medical records and telephone interviews, the subjects were divided into two groups as follows and retrospectively compared and analyzed: BCS with absorbable mesh (n=31) and BCS without absorbable mesh (n=32). Patient data included age, body mass index, underlying disease, tumor location and size, specimen size, operative time, axillary dissection based on frozen biopsy results, postoperative wound infection, postoperative radiotherapy, adjuvant chemotherapy, and follow-up period. To compare patient satisfaction between the two groups, a brief questionnaire consisting of four items was administered. RESULTS: Infection occurred in six patients (19.4%) in the absorbable mesh group and one (3.1%) in the BCS only group; however, the difference was not significant (p=0.053). Overall satisfaction, postoperative pain and postoperative motion limitation between the two groups were also not statistically significantly different. However, patients who underwent BCS with absorbable mesh insertion were better satisfied with the breast shape than those who underwent BCS without mesh from 1 year after operation (p=0.011). CONCLUSION: BCS with absorbable mesh is a simple and easy method to improve patient satisfaction for breast shape.

4.Patient satisfaction with the cervical ripening balloon as a method for induction of labour: a randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTIONEvidence has shown that balloon catheters are as effective as prostaglandins (PGE) in achieving vaginal delivery within 24 hours of the start of induction of labour (IOL), with lower rates of uterine hyperstimulation, and similar Caesarean section and infection rates. International guidelines recommend mechanical methods as a method of IOL. We designed a prospective randomised controlled study to evaluate patient acceptance of the cervical ripening balloon (CRB) for IOL.
METHODSSuitable women with a singleton term pregnancy without major fetal anomaly suitable for vaginal delivery were recruited and randomised to receive the CRB or PGE on the day of IOL. Characteristics of the women, labour and birth outcomes were obtained from case notes. Pain and satisfaction scores were obtained by interviewing the women at IOL and after delivery. The main outcome measures were participant characteristics, labour and birth outcomes, pain score, satisfaction scores, and whether the participant would recommend the mode of IOL.
RESULTSThere was no difference in the pain score between the two groups at the start of IOL, but thereafter, pain scores were lower in the CRB group compared to the PGE group (4.5 ± 2.3 vs. 5.6 ± 2.4, p = 0.044). Women were equally satisfied with both methods and equally likely to recommend their method for IOL.
CONCLUSIONPatient experience of IOL with CRB or PGE was equally satisfactory, although pain during induction was lower in the CRB group. We found that both methods of IOL are acceptable to women and should be made available to provide more options.
5.Preliminary monitoring of concentration of particulate matter (PM) in seven townships of Yangon City, Myanmar.

BACKGROUND:
Airborne particulate pollution is more critical in the developing world than in the developed countries in which industrialization and urbanization are rapidly increased. Yangon, a second capital of Myanmar, is a highly congested and densely populated city. Yet, there is limited study which assesses particulate matter (PM) in Yangon currently. Few previous local studies were performed to assess particulate air pollution but most results were concerned PM alone using fixed monitoring. Therefore, the present study aimed to assess distribution of PM in different townships of Yangon, Myanmar. This is the first study to quantify the regional distribution of PM in Yangon City.
METHODS:
The concentration of PM was measured using Pocket PM Sensor (Yaguchi Electric Co., Ltd., Miyagi, Japan) three times (7:00 h, 13:00 h, 19:00 h) for 15 min per day for 5 days from January 25 to 29 in seven townships. Detailed information of eight tracks for PM pollution status in different areas with different conditions within Kamayut Township were also collected.
RESULTS:
The results showed that in all townships, the highest PM concentrations in the morning followed by the evening and the lowest concentrations in the afternoon were observed. Among the seven townships, Hlaingtharyar Township had the highest concentrations (164 ± 52 μg/m) in the morning and (100 ± 35 μg/m) in the evening. Data from eight tracks in Kamayut Township also indicated that PM concentrations varied between different areas and conditions of the same township at the same time.
CONCLUSION
Myanmar is one of the few countries that still have to establish national air quality standards. The results obtained from this study are useful for the better understanding of the nature of air pollution linked to PM. Moreover, the sensor which was used in this study can provide real-time exposure, and this could give more accurate exposure data of the population especially those subpopulations that are highly exposed than fixed station monitoring.
