Objective To explore the relationship between serum magnesium (Mg) levels and glucose metabolism disorders in the elderly.Methods The data of health examination of 126 elderly people were collected in our hospital.There were 50 patients with type 2 diabetes,35 patients with impaired glucose regulation (IGR) and 41 people with normal glucose.The clinical data of the three groups were compared and analyzed.Results (1)There were no significant differences in age,body mass index (BMI) and blood lipid level among the three groups.The mean serum Mg level was lower in normal glucose group [(0.84±0.1) mmol/L] than in diabetic group [(0.75±0.11) mmol/L,P＜0.01] and IGR group [(0.78±0.12) mmol/L,P＜0.05].(2)The prevalence of hypomagnesemia was higher in diabetic group and IGR group than in normal glucose group (24%,28.6% vs.7.3%,P＜ 0.01 ).(3)The correlation study showed that the serum magnesium level was negatively associated with fasting plasma glucose and HbA1c (r= - 0.343,- 0.271,P＜0.01 ),but not associated with age and BMI.Conclusions The low serum magnesium level is associated with glucose metabolism disorders in the elderly.

Vasculogenic mimicry (VM) is a term that describes a novel form of angiogenesis, channels of which are patterned networks of interconnected loops of periodic acid-Schiff (PAS)-positive extracellular matrix forming by highly aggressive tumor cells instead of endothelial cells. VM is closely correlated with the invasiveness, metastasis and prognosis of related tumors. However, traditional anti-vascular therapies aiming at endothelial cells have no remarkable effects on malignant tumor with VM. Therefore, VM should be an important factor to consider in design of anti-angiogenesis therapies of highly aggressive tumors and it is expected to become a potential target for tumor therapy. Some recent progresses of anti- vasculogenic mimicry therapy are reviewed in this article.

In 669 newly diagnosed T2DM patients the positive rate was 10.9% for GAD-Ab, 10.5% for ICA, 4.2% for both antibodies and 13.0% for anyone of the two antibodies. BMI was higher in antibodies-positive adult diabetic patients than that in control.

Objective To explore ICF-based measurement and statistical methods, and social support and service systems of intellectual disability. Methods ICF theories and approaches and literature review were applied. Results Based on the theories of function and disability in ICF, intellectual disability was characterized by the impairment of intellectual function and significant limitations in adaptive behavior, and onset before 18 years old. Based on the theories of intellectual disability in ICF, this study rebuilt the framework of intellectual disabili-ty, and modified the measure of intellectual disability by assessing the body function and measuring activities and participation to assess in-tellectual function and adaptive behavior, while analyzing the social support and service systems via environment factors. This study also dis-cussed related problems about the prevalence of intellectual disability. Conclusion New conceptual framework, measurement and statistical method of intellectual disability based on the theories and methods of ICF was discussed and the social support and service systems were in-tegrated into the environmental factor of intellectual disability.

We retrospectively analyzed the etiology of 26 new-onset pituitary neoplasms, which were diagnosed at outpatient department of internal medicine over the last 2 years. Our results showed that most patients visited doctors for hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and menstrual cycle disorder. In addition,gynecomastia, visual field defect, and headache could also be the primary condition. This study indicates that it should be critical to raise awareness of diverse clinical manifestation of pituitary neoplasm.

Objective To investigate the effects of mechanical stretch on the pelvic floor dysfunction and study the regulation of mechanical stretch on the morphology and extracellular matrix mRNA expression of fibroblasts derived from human uterosacral ligament.Methods 13 patients who underwent hysterectomy surgery due to uterine benign diseases in the Obstetric and Gynecological Department of the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University from October 2009 to September 2010 and had no pelvic organ prolapse were recruited in this study.Fibroblasts of uterosacral ligament were cultured by collagenase digestion and identified by morphology and immunocytochemical methods.Fibroblasts of 3 ～ 4 generations were stretched by flexcell-4000 tension system for 0,4,15,24 hours.Total RNA was extracted from the fibroblasts and mRNA of Collagen Ⅰ,Collagen Ⅲ,matrix metalloproteinase-1 and tissue inhibitor of metalloprot einase-1were measured with real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR.Results In response to mechanical stretch,the morphology and orientation of the uterosacral ligament fibroblasts were changed as well as their synthetic function.Collagen Ⅰ mRNA for 4 or 15 hours' stretch (0.777 ± 0.251,0.730 ± 0.248)were statistically down regulated compared with 0 hour ( 1.000 ±0.284),( q =4.5786,4.6458,p ＜0.05).But for 24 hours'stretch,the mRNA expression ( 1.102 ±0.308) of collagen Ⅰ restored to the level of 0 hours.The expressions of collagen Ⅲ mRNA for 4,15,24 hours' stretch (4.771 ± 0.879,6.146 ± 1.109,5.022 ± 0.907 )were statistically up regulated compared with 0 hour (1.001 ± 0.284),(q =15.9481,21.7647,17.0099,P ＜ 0.01 ).MMP-1mRNA for 4,15,24 hours' stretch (6.420 ± 2.143,23.695 ± 2.221,20.169 ±2.794) were statistically up regulated compared with 0 hour ( 1.000 ±0.414),( q =9.3421,39.1178,33.0403,P ＜ 0.01 ).TIMP-1 mRNA for 4,15 hours' stretch (0.455 ± 0.370,0.481 ± 0.386)were statistically down regulated compared with 0 hour( 1.000 ± 0.425 ),( q =6.5265,6.3106,P ＜0.05).But for 24 hours'stretch,the mRNA expression( 0.883 ± 0.538 ) restored to the level of 0 hours.Conclusions The morphology,orientation and the synthesis function of the uterosacral ligament fibroblasts can be regulated by mechanical stress.Extracellular matrix remodeling may be adaptive changes due to the mechanical stress.

Objective:To study the sensitivity of pathogenic fungi from otorhinolaryngology to 5 antifungal agents of Ketoconazole(KE), Itraconazole(IT),Fluorocytosine(FC),Amphtericin B (AP) and Fluconazole(FL) by Etest method.Method:Etest for determine MIC of 14 pathogenic fungi was performed according to the manufactuer′s instructions.The Etest strip containing the 5 antifungal drugs were putted on medium with Candida albicans,A.flarus and A.fumigatus etc,respectively,to determine MIC of antifungal drugs.Result:Candida albicans were sensitized to all the above 5 antifungal drugs, KE and IT were most sensitized.Seven fungi such as A. flavus, A fumigatus, A.oryzae etc were all sensitized to KE and IT.The MIC range of KE and IT against 15 strains of pathogenic fungi were≤0.008～2 mg/L and ≤ 0.006～4 mg/L respectively.In 15 strains,11 strains showed drug-resistant to FL,8 strains to AP and FC,4 strains to KE and 1 strains to IT respectively and MIC were all >32 mg/L.Conclusion:Etest MIC were in good agreement with macrobroth MIC.The use of Etest strips for antifungial susceptibility test is a new and promising method with advantage of easy to perform, exact results and satisfactory reproducibility. Etest is valuable on clinical practice.

Objective:To prepare the vaccine of DC derived from human peripheral blood and transfected with HPV16E6 antigen gene, and to detect its morphological character,surface marker and immunological effect.Methods:DC-enriched populations were prepared from human peripheral blood mononuclear cell(PBMC) with the combination of rhGM-CSF,rhIL-4 and rhTNF-?. The plasmid containing HPV16E6 gene was transfected into DC with lipofectamine. The morphology of DC was observed dynamically, and the expression of surface markers of DC vaccine could be detected using immuno-cytochemical staining and flow cytometry. MTT assay was applied to detect the activity of CTL in vitro.Results:The transfected DC had typical morphologic and phenotypic characteristics, and expressed E6 protein 47.3%, CD80 82.5%, CD86 79.8% and CD83 85.7%. To evaluate quality-adjusted life year(QALY) and relevant impact factors in 304 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC),post-radiotherapeutic subjects were surveyed by means of questionnaire and simplified Washington University-quality of life(UW-QOL).QALYs were calculated and impact factors were identified.Duration of follow-up and age were negatively correlated with QALY.Patients at lower N stage had increased QALY.Decreased QALY was found in recurrent patients.Due to coconsideration to the lost quality of life and survival,QALY could serve as an effective method to evaluate the burden of disease in NPC patients.
