Background and purpose:Regular physical exam became the main means to discover the population with early stage RCC. So far, there have been no reports with large sample that have been published about the biomarkers as predictor for the metastasis of the postoperative patients with stage T_(1-3)N_0M_0 (RCC) in China. Furthermore, the underlying mechanism of metastasis of RCC is not clear. This research was carried out in order to study the correlation between delayed metastasis of early stage renal cell carcinoma after surgical operation and expressions of KAI-1、Ki-67 and HER-2/neu on RCC. Methods:Two hundred and forty-one patients with RCC underwent surgical operations and were pathologically diagnosed as T_(1-3)N_0M_0 stage. Twenty-four patients were found to have metastases after long-term follow-up and their clinical data were reviewed (metastasis group). One hundred and ninety-four patients without postoperative metastases were taken as control group. Twenty three patients were excluded from this study because they were lost to follow-up. The expressions of KAI1、 Ki-67 and HER-2/neu in the samples of the two groups were tested with immunohistochemical staining by PowerVision or EnVision two-step procedure. Significant difference was calculated with Chi square test. Results:The positive expression rates of KAI1、HER-2/neu and Ki-67 in 218 RCC were 82.6%、27.5% and 83.5%, respectively. Both mild (20.8%) and strong positive rates (4.2%) of KAI1 in metastasis group were dramatically less than that in control group (90.2%, 73.7%, P

BACKGROUND: Total isoflavones of pueraria (TIP) possesses estradiol-like structures and has inhibition effect on bone loss or osteopenia in ovariectomized rats. However, studies have demonstrated that the prevention and treatment effect of TIP on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats is poor, especially in single utilization. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the combination effect of TIP and vitamin D on the treatment of osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats. METHODS: Totally 81 female sprague-drawly (SD) rats of 3-month-old were randomly assigned into 9 groups. Exception those in the sham-surgery group, all rats were prepared for ovariectomized models. Vitamin D or low-, middle- and high-dose TIP or low-, middle- and high-dose TIP combined with vitamin D were intragastric administrated in the vitamin D, TIP or combination groups, respectively. There was no drug medication in the model and sham-surgery groups. The uterus coefficient was calculated at 3 months after medication. The serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, calcium, phosphonium, bone gla protein, estradiol levels, as well as bone mineral density of femur was determined. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Compared with the model group, the uterus coefficient and estradiol level was obviously increased in the middle- and high-dose TIP groups and all combination groups (P < 0.05); the ALP and bone gla protein levels significant decreased (P < 0.05); and the bone mineral density of central and distal femur were notably increased (P < 0.05); in particular, the result was more manifest in the high-dose combination group. TIP and vitamin D presented with synergism in uterus coefficient, estradiol, ALP, bone gla protein levels and bone mineral density of distal femur, but the effect was not significant in the calcium and phosphonium levels in the TIP and/or vitamin D groups. The findings demonstrated that Tip combined with vitamin D can induce synergism on prevention and cure of osteporosis in ovariectomized rat.

ObjectiveTo explore the effect of the social support, coping styles and self-efficacy on depression of adults with epilepsy. Methods84 patients with epilepsy were evaluated with Zung's self rating depression scale (SDS), general conditions questionnaire, Social Support Scale, Coping Styles Questionnaire, General Self-efficacy Scale. Based on the SDS, they were divided into the depression group and the epileptic group.Results52 patients suffered from depression (61.2%). There were significant differences in general self-efficacy, coping styles and social support between the depression group and the epileptic group (P<0.05). The score of SDS was positively correlated with the frequency of seizure, duration of epilepsy, fantasy, self-accusation and avoiding (P<0.05), and negatively correlated with the economic status, total support, objective support, subjective support, utilization of support, problem solving, help seeking, rationalizing and self-efficacy (P<0.05). Multiple regression analysis showed that the score of SDS was correlated with the self-efficacy, help seeking, self-accusation, economic status and frequency of seizure.ConclusionThe depression of adults with epilepsy are affected by the social support, coping styles and self-efficacy.

Objective To evaluate serum organochlorine pesticides and residues levels in breast cancer pa-tients between the seriously and lightly earthquake-striken areas of Tangshan. Methods 93 patients of breast cancer from seriously earthquake-striken areas and 65 patients from lightly earthquake-striken areas were selected as study subjects, which serum organochlorine pesticides (DDTs and HCHs) levels were detected and compared with gas chromatography/electron capture. Results Serum organochlorine pesticides and residues levels in 158 patients be-tween the seriously and lightly earthquake-striken areas of Tangshan were not normal distributed. The order of detec-tion rate of HCH isomer in breast cancer patients between the seriously and lightly earthquake-striken areas were β-HCH>δ-HCH >α-HCH >γ-HCH. The orders of detection rate of DDT isomer in breast cancer patients between two areas of Tangshan were PP'-DDE > PP'-DDT > OP'-DDT > PP'-DDD. The serum levels of α-HCH,β-HCH, PP'-DDE and PP'-DDD in breast cancer patients between the seriously and lightly earthquake-striken areas were statistically different. Conclusion The levels of organechlorine pesticides and residues in serum with high detection rate in seri-ously earthquake-striken area are higher than that in lightly earthquake-striken area. It is likely that there is an asso-ciation with a large number of organechlorine pesticides sprayed.
