2.Treatment of hypertension as JNC VI

JNC VI was the sixth report of the National Program of Hypertension Education in America. There were some differences from previous reports including reduction of body weight, and alcohol consumption, exercise, reduction of salt (less than 100 mmol), adequate complement of calcium and Magnesium, stop smoking, reduction of saturated fat and cholesterol. The blood pressure must be less than 140/90. The treatment involved the risk factors and using the diuretics and beta-blockers.

4.Community-based management model for schizophrenia

A model of community-based mental health care was developed in 6 communes of Th¬êng TÝn district, Hµ T©y province. Results: There were 187 patients have been managed and treated in community. Among these, 161 patients were stable, 14 patients relapsed and need to hospitalise. This model decreased harmful behaviours, chronic disease and disability, help the patients live stably and integrate to family and community. Cost for one patient was 148,802 VND per month. In the term of society, this model enabled to everybody access to mental health care service, minimized the discrimination for schizophrenia patients.

6.Review of some malaria hot spots in Lao Cai province and the management

Most of malaria hot spots occurred in Lao Cai province from 1998 to 1999 were P.falciparum infections. The rate of parasite infections were high (7.06%-33.75%), because of unorganized migration of population from and to the malaria endemic areas. Illegal migrants often went to Dak Lak and all of them were Mong ethnic, accounted for 70% of unorganized migration in the province. Outbreak control activities were taken in high risk spots. During surveillance, there wasn’t any patient and results of slide were negative or low counts and those were nonresident parasites

7.Malaria situation in Ha Bac province

In comparison to the same period in 2002, Bac Giang province have reached 3 goals of malaria control program during early 5 months in 2003: the incidence of malaria increased 10%, only 3 cases of exotic parasite, no death of malaria, no malaria outbreak. Some activities of malaria control program have been taken already : epidemiological surveillance, vector control, communication, training, supplying forms of reports for all villages and districts, appropriate use of expenditures and materials. Results of examination at June 2003 showed that epidemiological situation was still stable and there were good activities in malaria control program

8.Management of sterility and infertility in Vietnam-Present and Future

The rate of infertility in Vietnam is 13% of couples of reproductive age, in which the primary infertility is 1.5%; the secondary infertility with childless is 1.5% and with at least 1 living child is 2%. It means there are 5% of couples needing a treatment of infertility. The principal cause of infertility is the infections of genital tract leading to tubal occlusion in 40% of female infertility; the hydrotubation is done the proximal tubal occlusion. Surgery with coelioscopy is the most proper method for tubal occlusion; Pregnancy rate is 30% of the tubal occlusion cases. The rate of anovulation and dysovulation about 25%. The treatment of these cases is clomiphene citrate of HMG-HCG. The rate of hyperprolactinemia is 30% of amenorrheic women having galactorrhea or not. Bromocryptine pregnancy rate is more than 30%.

9.Subarachnoid hemorrhage: Diagnosis and Management

From January 2001 to June 2002, 96 patients who were suffering from subarachnoid hemorrhage were admitted to the stroke service of the neurological Department of B¹ch Mai Hospital. Diagnosis based on the clinical examination, CT Scan, lumbar puncture (if necessary) transcranial Doppler sonography (TCD), and angiography (DSA, and MRA). There were 35 females and 61 males. The age ranged from 12 to 84. The averaged age 46-65 years: 47 (49%). The clinical pictures included headache 98%, vomiting and/ or nausea 89%, consciousness disorders 55%, neck stiffness 94%, kernigsign 89%, hemiplegia 35%, cranial third nerve palsy 9%, cerebral aneurysm 88%, and arteriovenous malformation (AVM) 12%. Evaluation and complications included good recovery 14%, moderate disability 53%, severed disability 25%, death 8%, no cases with persistent vegetative states, recurrent bleeding 27%, cerebral vasospasm 29%, hydrocephalus 26%, Hyponatremia 17%, and seizure 5%.
