Electronic waste (E-waste) arising from the rapid development of high-tech industries such as electronic information has become the fastest-growing solid waste,its impact on the environment and health aroused more and more people’s concern. The progress on the study of E-waste on the environment and human health was reviewed in this paper,the limitation of current researches and the future direction were also analyzed and assessed.

BACKGROUND:There are many methods that can repair Pilon fracture, but the effects are not ideal. With the development of science and technology, fundamental change of fracture fixation principle and innovation of technology and idea has brought new opportunities for Pilon fracture repair. Biological immobilization technology can further reduce the further damage to blood supply of bone outer membrane on the fracture end, do not disturb biomechanical environment of fracture healing, and is the new trend of present research and development. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of locking compression plate fixation for repair of Pilon fracture using biological fixation technique. METHODS:Clinical data of 76 patients with Pilon fracture treated using locking compression plate fixation in the Nanhai District Economic Development Zone Guanyao Branch of the People’s Hospital from June 2008 to December 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 49 males and 27 females, at the age of 39.5 years on average (range from 19 to 60 years). According to Ruedi-Algower classification, there were 54 cases of type II and 22 cases of type III. In accordance with biological fixation technique, locking compression plate fixation was applied to treat Pilon fracture. Folowing treatment, they were regularly folowed up. Reduction quality was assessed by Burwel-Charnley radiological criteria. X-ray films were reviewed to observe fracture healing. During final folow-up, ankle function was evaluated according to Baird-Jackson score. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:A total of 76 patients were folowed up for 6 to 24 months. Reduction quality assessed by Burwel-Charnley radiological criteria was as folows: anatomic reduction of 68 cases, reduction of 8 cases, 71 cases of one-stage wound healing, and 5 cases of wound healing after dressing change, with the rate of one-stage healing of 93%. Fractures of al patients were healed. The healing time was 4 to 8.5 months, averagely 6.25 months. During final folow-up, ankle function assessed by Baird-Jackson score was as folows: there were 69 excelent cases, 5 good cases and 2 average cases. These results indicate that locking compression plate fixation for Pilon fracture obtained good stability, could effectively avoid the damage of fracture end blood supply, shorten the healing time; it was simple to operate, had smal injury to soft tissue, and was an effective fixation method to repair Pilon fracture.

Objective To investigate the effect of small interfering RNA (siRNA) interference in the expression of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) on the radiosensitivity of esophageal squamous carcinoma (Eca-109) and esophageal adenocarcinoma (OE-19) cell lines.Methods Human Eca-109 and OE-19 cell lines were selected as study subjects.Various EGFR-siRNA and negative siRNA were synthesized chemically through lipofection.Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blot were applied to measure the expression of EGFR before and after transfection,and the CCK8 assay was applied to analyze the influence of transfection on cell proliferation.Blank control groups of Eca-109 and OE-19 cells (O1 and O2 groups),simple irradiation groups (R1 and R2 groups),and EGFR-siRNA irradiation groups (E-R1 and E-R2 groups) were set,and the doses for single irradiation were 0,2,4,6,and 8 Gy.The colony-forming assay was applied to calculate survival fraction (SF) and sensitization enhancement ratio (SERD0 ratio),and flow cytometry was applied to evaluate the influence of EGFR-siRNA combined with radiotherapy on cell cycle distribution and apoptosis rate,and the dose for single irradiation was 6 Gy.Results The expression of EGFR in both cell lines was significantly down-regulated by EGFR-siRNA,and the inhibition rate of cell proliferation by transfection was＜5％ (4.9％ and 4.5％,respectively).The results of colony-forming assay showed that the cells in the E-R1 and E-R2 groups had a lower SF than those in the O1 and O2 groups,with an SERD0ratio of 1.40 and 1.01,respectively.The results from flow cytometry showed that compared with the E-R2 group,the E-R1 group had a higher proportion of cells in G2/M phase and a lower proportion of cells in S phase after irradiation (P=0.016 and 0.028),as well as a higher apoptosis rate (P=0.007).Conclusions Compared with the cell line OE-19,the cell line Eca-109 has a significantly increased radiosensitivity when treated with siRNA interference in EGFR expression.
