4.Development of a Health Information Web Site Evaluation Categories with Items for Diabetes Mellitus.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to develop a health information web site evaluation categories with items for diabetes mellitus in order to offer verified health information, and to propose directions for development of web sites. METHODS: A preliminary evaluation categories with items was developed using domestic and foreign web site evaluation standards for health information and through a review of the literature. The evaluation categories with items was composed of 'evaluation for web site attributes' and 'evaluation for content information on diabetes mellitus'. Through expert validity tests and a feasibility test of the preliminary tool, the health information Web site evaluation tool for diabetes mellitus was finalized. RESULTS: This evaluation categories with items included 'evaluation for web site attributes' and 'evaluation for content information on diabetes mellitus'. 'Evaluation for web site attributes' included 8 categories with 28 items. The 'evaluation for content information on diabetes mellitus' included 7 categories with 40 items. 'Evaluation component for content' and 'evaluation of category content' included 4 items on 'accuracy', 6 on 'harmfulness' and 3 on 'comprehensibility'. CONCLUSION: From this study guidelines are propose for providing health information for diabetes mellitus, so that health information providers will be able to offer consumers verified good quality health information themselves.

9.Impact of Total Contact Plaster Boot via off Loading Practice in Trophic Ulcers of the Feet: Case Series

Trophic ulcers have emerged as one of the major complications following diabetes mellitus (DM) and Hansen’s diseases (HD). In this case series, the study attempted total contact plaster boot using a readily available plaster of Paris to treat trophic ulcer for 10 subjects. A total of five subjects with DM and five subjects with HD were included based on the study criteria. Pre and post test measure of wound measurement size following total contact plaster boot were taken as an outcome measure. All ten subjects showed decrease in size of wound following fifteen days of treatment. No adverse effects were associated with this type of treatment. Subjects with trophic ulcer may benefit from the application of total contact plaster boot.

10.Diabetic vagal mononeuropathy manifesting with isolated dysphagia

Vagal mononeuropathy is very rare. Diabetes mellitus is one of the causes of this rare disease condition.
Here we report a 44-year-old woman who presented with an idiopathic vagal mononeuropathy and
was finally diagnosed with diabetic vagal mononeuropathy. She presented with isolated dysphagia
without hoarseness or other symptoms related with vagal dysfunction. Except for diabetes mellitus,
no abnormalities were found by routine and specific checkups including brain imaging, gastroscopy,
electromyography, and laryngoscopy. Finally, 12 days later, she abruptly developed hoarseness without
other cranial nerve dysfunction.We suggest that her neurological symptoms originated from diabetes
affecting the vagus nerve in isolation. Clinicians should pay attention to this association, especially
when they encounter a patient with diabetes mellitus with sudden idiopathic dysphagia even without
problems of vocalization.
