Objective To observe the effect of Ginkgo on IL-4,IL-5 in serum of asthmatic mice. Methods 40 mouse were randomly divided into three groups(control group, sensitization group, and therapeutic group). The mouse asthmatic models were established by sensitizing with aerosolized ovalbumin(OVA). IL-4,IL-5 in serum in 16 sensitization mouse and 8 control mouse were measured by ELISA, respectively. We injected 0.15ml Ginkgo solution in the abdominal cavity of 16 therapeutic mouse before the episode of asthma. After that, they were challenged with aerosolized OVA and IL-4,IL-5 in serum were measured by ELISA. Results The levels of IL-4,IL-5 in serum in control group were (12.965?2.450)pg/ml, (13.398?4.460)pg/ml, respectively, (16.889?4.835)pg/ml, (19.471?7.207)pg/ml in sensitization, (13.695?4.068)pg/ml, (14.774?5.749)pg/ml in therapeutic group. Objective:To observe the effect of applying tuina to exterior-interiorly connected meridians for post-stroke upper limb spasticity.
Methods:A total of 150 patients with post-stroke upper limb spasticity were randomly allocated into a treatment group (n=75) and a control group (n=75) by the random number table. Patients in the treatment group received tuina on exterior-interiorly connected meridians, whereas patients in the control group received standard rehabilitation therapy. The therapeutic efficacies in both groups were observed after 3 weeks of treatment.
Results:The total effective rate in the treatment group was 89.3%, versus 61.3% in the control group, showing a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). After the treatment, the muscle tones by the modified Ashworth scale (MAS) were significantly improved in both groups (bothP<0.05); and the improvement of muscle tone was more significant in the treatment group than that in the control group (P<0.05).
Conclusion:Applying tuina to exterior-interiorly connected meridians can obtain an exact efficacy for post-stroke upper limb spasticity.

Objective To investigate skin manifestations and comorbidities of chronic arsenicosis due to conta?minated drinking water, and to explore their possible risk factors. Methods Data about demographic characteristics, skin manifestations and comorbidities were collected from 95 patients with chronic arsenicosis due to contaminated drinking water in Inner Mongolia, and retrospectively analyzed. A logistic regression model was established to analyze associations of skin manifestations and comorbidities with patients′ gender, age, age at onset of drinking of arsenic?contaminated water, arsenic concentrations in water and duration of arsenic exposure. Results Among the 95 patients, 77 had hyperpigmentation, 75 hypopigmentation, 93 palmoplantar keratoderma, 27 skin cancer, and 8 multiple skin cancer. Five patients were complicated by tuberculosis, 15 by hypertension, 2 by rheumatoid arthritis, 4 by cerebral infarction, 7 by coronary heart diseases, 3 by internal malignancy, 6 by hepatic cirrhosis and 2 by anemia. Logistic regression analysis revealed a significant correlation between hyperpigmentation and arsenic concentrations in water(OR=0.32, 95%CI=0.10-0.98;ORadjusted=0.27, 95%CI=0.08-0.90), between occurrence of hepatic cirrhosis and arsenic concentrations in water (OR=24.67, 95%CI=2.69-226.57;ORadjusted=22.51, 95%CI=2.38-213.11), and between occurrence of coronary heart diseases and duration of arsenic exposure(OR=6.41, 95%CI=1.09-37.88;ORadjusted=8.55, 95%CI=1.21-60.41). Conclusions There is a high incidence of aberrant pigment metabolism, palmoplantar keratoderma and skin cancer in patients with chronic arsenicosis due to contaminated drinking water. Different arsenic concentrations in water and duration of arsenic exposure seem to have different influences on the human body.

Objective To package the recombinant lentivirus containing HIV-1 Vpr gene and detect the effect of Vpr protein expression on the latent infection and lyric replication of KSHV.Methods The fragment of Vpr gene from expression plasmid pCI-neo-Vpr was cloned into the lentivirus vector pHAGE-CMV-MCS-IzsGreen,then the recombinant plasmid pHAGE-Vpr,package vector psPAX2 and envelope vector pMD2.G were cotransfected into 293T cells.GFP expression was observed by fluorescent microscopy.Culture media of 293T cells were harvested and filtered through 0.45 μm filter.After 293T cells were infected by a series of diluted lentivirus,the virus titer was checked by observing GFP expression.Vpr mRNA transcripts in 293T cells were detected by RT-PCR.Then BCBL-1 cells were infected by the recombinant lentivirus with 1 MOI,GFP expression was observed by fluorescent microscopy,and the mRNA transcripts and protein expression of Vpr in BCBL-1 cells were detected by RT-PCR and Western blot.Meanwhile,the mRNA transcripts and protein expression of KSHV lytic cycle gene Rta were detected by RT-PCR and Western blot,respectively.Results The recombinant lentivirus carrying HIV-1 Vpr was packaged successfully with the virus titer of 4 × 107 TU/ml.After infected with lentivirus,BCBL-1 cells could express GFP,and the exact band of Vpr was detectable by RT-PCR and Western blot.Moreover,the expression of KSHV Rta mRNA and protein were downregulated by Vpr protein.Conclusion Overexpression of HIV-1 Vpr mediated by the recombinant lentivirus could inhibit KSHV lytic replication and enhance KSHV latent infection.

Discogenic low back pain is the common type of chronic low back pain. However,its mechanism has not been completely clarified. Considerable evidence shows that neurotrophins play an important role in discogenic low back pain. The paper summarizes the mechanism of neurotrophins on discogenic low back pain according to the pain transfer pathway of neurotrophins in intervertebral disc, dorsal horn ganglia and spinal trigeminal nucleus. Changing the pain transmission by regulating neurotrophins and its receptor will provide a new way for the treatment of discogenic low back pain.

Objective To investigate the infection prevention effect of prophylactic use of antibiotics for cancer inpatients with leukocyte count ≤ 1 × 109/L.Then to provide the basis for rational use of antibiotics.Methods It was retrospectively surveyed that the infection situation and prophylactic usage of antibiotics in the 426 cancer inpatients with leukocyte count ≤ 1 × 109/L caused by radiotherapy and chemotherapy.Results In the 426 inpatients,the infection rates of patients with and without prophylactic use of antibiotics were 11.0％ and 20.9％ respectively.The difference was statistically significant (x2 =6.815,P =0.009).The leukocyte count median values of patients with and without infection were 0.73 × 109/L and 0.77 × 109/L respectively.The difference had no statistical significance(Z =-1.257,P =0.209).The main infection sites were lower respiratory tract,upper respiratory tract and gastrointestinal tract with infection rates of 48％,12％ and 11％,respectively.The top five pathogens were Klebsiella pneumonia,Enterobacter cloacae,Escherichia coli,Enterobacter aerogenes and Staphylococcus aureus.The most use of antibiotics were cephalosporin.Conclusion When the leukocyte counts of cancer inpatients are less than or equal to 1 × 109/L induced by chemotherapy and radiotherapy,reasonable prophylactic use of antibiotics can reduce hospital infection rates.

BACKGROUND: Chinese kidney-tonifying herb is commonly used in orthopedics department. However, individual effects of different ingredients remain poorly understood. OBJECTIVE: To observe influence of effective ingredients of Chinese kidney-tonifying drugs on bone healing and hemorheology of rats with bone injury. METHODS: Rat model of fracture of shaft of the femur was established, and treated by intragastric administration separately with extractive rhizoma drynariae total flavonoids, epimedium total flavonoids, dodder total flavonoids, naringin, quercetin and hesperidin. Blood and bone samples were harvested after 21 days to detect the extent of bone healing and hemorheology indexes. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The effective constituents of different Chinese kidney-tonifying drugs were beneficial to bone healing, and the effect of rhizoma drynariae total flavonoids and epimedium total flavonoids was better than the other drugs. Rhizoma drynariae total flavonoids and epimedium total flavonoids effectively inhibited blood viscosity under low shear, and reduced erythrocyte aggregation index and the aggregation and adhesion of platelet (P < 0.05), but it had no evident effects on erythrocyte deformation. This shows that the effective ingredient of the Chinese kidney-tonifying drugs can promote bone healing and exert certain effects on hemorheology. In particular, rhizoma drynariae total flavonoids exhibits the best effect.
