1.PTEN and thyroid tumor
International Journal of Surgery 2010;37(10):687-690
A tumor suppressor gene at 10q23.3, designated PTEN, encoding a dual specificity phosphatase with lipid and protein phosphatase activity, has been shown to play an important role in the pathogenesis of a variety of human cancers and sporadic tumor. In this paper, we reviewed the construction and function of PTEN, and the mechanism of activation in cancer especially in thyroid carcinoma.
2.Research progress of TERT promoter mutation in thyroid carcinoma
International Journal of Surgery 2015;42(11):768-771
Thyroid carcinoma is the most frequent endocrine cancer.Recently, it has been discovered that telomerase reverse transcriptase promoter mutation can prevent cell tolemeres from shortening, leading to cell immortalization and plays an important role in the tumor genesis, invasiveness and metastasis of the thyroid carcinoma.Testing of telomerase reverse transcriptase promoter mutation is of great value in diagnosis, which also can be used as a prognostic maker of thyroid carcinoma.
3.Progress in research on human thyroid cancer xenograft nude models
International Journal of Surgery 2015;42(8):551-554
Thyroid cancer is the most common malignant endocrine tumor. The xenograft nude mice model of thyroid cancer have played an important role in studying thyroid cancer.Different mouse model has distinctive characters and limitations,so it is important to choose a suitable mice model due to the experiment purpose. In this paper, the authors will address the research progress of human thyroid cancer xenograft nude models.
4.Research progress of coiled-coil domain-containing in carcinoma
International Journal of Surgery 2014;41(9):635-638
Coiled-Coil domain-containing has many important biological functions and can control the invasion and metastasis of malignant tumor cells and other biological behavior. The abnormal expression of the coiled-coil domaincontaining protein in nasopharyngeal carcinoma, gastric cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, has a direct link with the phenotype of tumor cell migration, invasion and metastasis.Abnormal protein expression and inhibition of coiled-coil domain-containing related pathways can significantly affect the tumor invasion and metastasis, for the new targeted cancer medicine used in the treatment provides a theoretical basis.

Purpose:To investigate the expression and clinical significance of estrogen receptor and Cyclin D1 in the differentiated thyrord carcinoma. Methods:We investigated the expression of ER and Cyclin D1 in thyroid normal tissue, thyroid adenoma and DTC by SP immunohistochemical technique. We have collected 89 specimens from surgical resections, and all the sections were formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded, each has detailed clinical data, two pathologists classified the histopathologic types. DTC 43 cases (papillary thyroid carcinoma, 39 cases, follicular thyroid carcinoma, 4 cases); thyroid follicular adenoma 30 cases, and 16 cases of normal thyroid tissues taken from around the thyroid adenoma. Results:The positive rates of ER and CyclinD1 in the DTC were 53.5%(23/43), 65.1%(28/43) respectively; the positive rates of ER and CyclinD1 in the thyroid adenoma were 26.7%(8/30), 36.7%(11/30) respectively; the positive rates of ER in normal thyroid tissues were 12.5%(2/16), while CyclinD1 were negative. The ER expression in DTC was significantly higher than that in the thyroid adenoma and the normal thyroid tissues(P

Purpose:To investigate the expression of E cadherin and nm23 in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and its clinical significance. Methods:The expression of E cadherin and nm23 were detected by SP immunohistochemical technique in 70 paraffin embedded tissue specimens of PTC.Results:The positive rates of E cadherin and nm23 were 44.3%(31/70) and 62.9%(44/70) respectively. There were close relations between the expression of E cadherin and nm23 and pathological grade, TNM stage and lymph node metastasis, and no difference could be found between the expression of E cadherin and nm23 and size of tumor, sex and age of patients. There was distinct correlation between the expression of E cadherin and nm23. The metastatic rate in the group, which the expression of E cadherin and nm23 were both positive, was 12%(3/25), but in the all negative group, the metastatic rate was 75%(15/20). There was significant difference between the two groups ( P

Objective To detect the expression levels of vascular endothelial growth factor D ( VEGF-D) , D2-40 and MMP-7 in papillary thyroid carcinoma ( PTC) and to explore their relationship with micro lymphat-ic density, distribution, and cervical lymph node metastasis .Methods SP immunohistochemistry was used to study the expression of VEGF-D, D2-40 and MMP-7 in 38 cases of PTC with cervical lymph node metastasis , 45 cases of PTC without cervical lymph node metastasis , and 22 cases of normal thyroid tissues .Micro lymphatic density ( MLD) was counted .Results The expression level of VEGF-D in PTC with cervical lymph node metasta-sis and normal thyroid tissues had significant difference (χ2 =13.074, P=0.000, P<0.0167).The expression level of D2-40 in PTC with and without cervical lymph node metastasis had significant difference ( P<0.05 ) . MMP-7 expression in PTC with and without cervical lymph node metastasis had statistical significance ( 91.67%vs 73.33%, P<0.05).MLD in PTC with and without cervical lymph node metastasis and in normal thyroid tis-sues had statistical difference (11.7 ±3.5 vs 8.9 ±3.1 vs 3.9 ±2.7, P<0.05).Conclusion VEGF-D, D2-40 and MMP-7 are highly expressed in PTC and they are possibly related with cervical lymph node metastasis of PTC.

Objective To discuss the protection of parathyroid and application of nano-carbon suspen-sion in thyroid surgery .Methods 80 cases were randomly divided into 2 groups:the experimental group which were injected nano-carbon into thyroid during thyroidectomy , and the control group without any injection .Results There were 5 cases with hypocalcemia and 5 cases with PTH decrease in the experimental group , and there were 15 cases and 14 cases respectively in the control group .Pathological results showed that misresection of par-athyroids occurred in 6 cases of the control group(11 parathyroid glands)were while it didn't happen in the experi-mental group .Conclusion Nano-carbon can help to identify and protect the parathyroid , decreasing the proba-bility of parathyroid gland damage during thyroid surgery .

Objective To explore the clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of ectopic thyroid gland and to improve the management of ectopic thyroid. Methods The clinical data of 15 cases of ectopic thyroid in our hospital and the literatures were analyzed. The clinical features of ectopic thyroid gland, its diagnosis and the treatment were summarized. Results Of the 15 cases, 13 cases underwent operation. Among them, 9 cases showed symptom relief and their thyroid gland function resumed normal with no reoccurrence, 3 cases were complicated by temporary hypothyroidism and 1 case was misdiagnosed and mistreated, resulting in permanent hypothyroidism and lifetime thyroid hormone replacement. Conclusions Ectopic thyroid gland is a rare disease which was frequently misdiagnosed and mistreated. Improvement of related examination is essential in reducing misdiagnosis and mistreatment.
