Vasculogenic mimicry (VM) is a pattern of neoplasm cells, which achieve their blood supplements through deformation and simulating capillary channels.Cumulative studies show that the formation of VM in glioma have a close relation with the glioma stem cells. In addition, some molecules such as microRNA,epithelial cell kinase-A2,vascular endothelial cadherin, transforming growth factor-Jβ,vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 and galectin-1 play important roles in the forming process of vasculogenic mimicry.Recently,it is found that VM is associated with the poor prognosis of patients with glioma and anti angiogenesis drug efficacy. So the research on VM about the discovery, formation mechanism, prognostic impact and the clinical significance will provide an opportunity for diagnosis and therapy of glioma in early stage.

China Biotechnology 2006;0(03):-
Butyric acid can be used to produce cellulose butyrate fiber and ester derivatives, and to be applied in foodstuffs and perfume industries.Recent researches have found that butyric acid is a preferred carbon source for colonic epithelial cells, and can inhibit histone deacetylase, showing great anticancer potentials. With more and more functions of butyric acid being found and applied in bio-related fields, and with consumer's growing preference to bioproducts, biotechnological production of butyric acid will receive more competence than petroleum-based chemical synthesis.Low product concentration and poor selectivity are presently the main restricting factors.Workers have made considerable progress on more cheep carbon sources, optimization of fermentation process, simplifying downstream processing, and genetic engineering of producing strains.Any achievement on these aspects in the future can contribute to put fermentation of butyric acid into industry.

Aim To investigate the combined effect of mangiferin and ephedrine as well as explore its underlying mechanism in mouse model of allergic asthma. Methods The mouse model of asthma was sensitized and challenged with ovalbumin(OVA).The behaviors of mice during the challenging period were observed.Continuous autonomic activities of mice after 1 h of drug treatment were monitored with the autonomic activity recorder for 14 days. The total and differential cells in peripheral blood were counted.Histological study of lung sections on airway inflammation was carried out with haematoxylin and eosin(HE) staining. The levels of ovalbumin-specific immunoglobulin E(OVA-sIgE) and(Cyclic Adenosine monophosphate) cAMP in serum were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).The mRNA expression of cytokines mainly produced by Th1/Th2 lymphocytes such as IFN-γ and IL-4, IL-5 were semi-quantitatively analyzed with reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR).Results Combination treatment and mangiferin could reduce the aberrantly autonomic activity caused by ephedrine in mice.Compared with the model group, asthmatic symptoms in all treatment groups could be significantly relieved, the pathological changes of lung tissue were improved and airway inflammation was reduced. The effect of combined treatment was better than that of mangiferin treatment alone.Compared with the model group, the total number of white blood cells(WBC) and the eosinophils(EOS) ratio in peripheral blood in all treatment groups decreased, the level of OVA-sIgE declined and the level of cAMP increased in serum.Combination treatment could lower mRNA expressions of IL-4 and IL-5 from Th2 lymphocytes and increase the mRNA expressions of IFN-γ released by Th1 lymphocytes. Conclusions The effect of combined therapy of mangiferin and ephedrine is better than that of mangiferin treated alone, meanwhile it can reduce the side effects caused by ephedrine. The underlying mechanism is mainly associated with attenuating Th1/Th2 cytokine imbalance and increasing the level of cAMP.

ObjectiveTo study the mechanism of nimodipine combined with electroacupuncture therapeutics protecting rats from cerebral ischemia and reperfusion injury.Methods60 rats were divided randomly into 3 groups, 24 rats in treatment group that accepted nimodipine combined with electroacupuncture therapy after middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) for one hour, and 24 in control group, which acceptd normal saline after ischemia and reperfusion injury, and 12 rats in normal group. One or three days later, all rats were decapitated and their brains were extracted for superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity and malonaldehyde(MDA) concentration assay. And immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of growth associated protein 43(GAP-43),microtubule associated protein 2(MAP-2) and cyclin D1 protein.ResultsAfter ischemia and reperfusion injury,SOD activity markedly decreased in both treatment and control group while MDA concentration increased, compared with normal group(P<0.01).Level of MAP-2 expression in treatment and control group was markedly lower than normal group(P<0.01), while levels of GAP-43 and cyclin D1 expression were higher (P<0.01). Contrasted to control group, SOD activity was higher and MDA concentration was lower in treatment group. Level of GAP-43 and MAP-2 expression in treatment group were higher than those in control group, while level of cyclin D1 lower. Differences between treatment group and control group were significent(P<0.01).ConclusionsNimodipine combined with electroacupuncture therapeutics can prevent brains from ischemia and reperfusion injury. It's actions of wiping free radicals out, inhibiting apoptosis and protein hydrolysis and promoting nerve regeneration are involved in the mechanism.

ObjectiveTo explore the relationship between the duration, MRI characters and prognosis in transient ischemic attack (TIA). Methods36 TIA cases were retrospectively analyzed according to the duration and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Diffusion Weighted Imaging(MRI-DWI). They were divided into two groups, Group A (13 cases) in which TIA continued within 1 h and Group B (23cases) in which TIA continued for 1~24 h. The patients were followed up 3 months and 12 months later. ResultsMRI abnormalities could be found with MRI-DWI in 2 cases in Group A, but 17 cases in group B(χ2=11.416,P=0.001). 1 case in Group A and 14 cases in Group B occurred cerebral infarction within a year(χ2=9.663,P=0.004). ConclusionThe longer TIA duration, the worse the prognosis.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of Danshensu on the lipid metabolism of hyperlipidemic rats.
METHODSixty clean male SD rats were selected. Twelve of them were selected in the basic control group and fed with common foods, and the remaining rats were fed with the high-fat feeds. After the successful modeling, they were randomly divided into the high-fat control group and low dose (10 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1)), medium dose (20 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1)) and high dose (40 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1)) Danshensu (dissolved in saline) groups. Both of the two groups were abdominally injected with the same volume of normal saline once a day for consecutively 30 days. The serum TG, TC, HDL-C and liver ACC1, FAS, HMGR, CPT-I mRNA expressions were detected.
RESULT AND CONCLUSIONDanshensu could inhibit the LDL-C level, timely clear redundant cholesterol and effectively regulate the lipid metablism of hyperlipidemic rats by reducing the TC content, decrease the fatty acid by reducing the FAS mRNA expression, and reduce the synthesis levels of endogenous cholesterol by inhibit the HMGR mRNA expression.
