During July 2002 to December 2003, there were 1618 eligible pregnant women attending to delivery at National Hospital for Obstetric and Gynecology recruited for the study. The rate of CS was 32.4% (16.5% elective CS and 15.8% emergency CS). There is an increase in the rate of having minor wound infection and higher in emergency CS (9.4%). The rate of maternal death was also higher in the group of emergency CS of 3.9/1000, while those rates in elective CS and vaginal were zero. No significant difference of neonatal complications was found among three groups (p>0.08). Medical cost occupied a large part of total bill spent for a delivery (78.1%)

An application of total quality management increased the rate of Thai and H'mong mother who using the clean delivery package from 23.18% to 87.86%. Cesarean section rate has a tendency to get higher. Premature rupture membranes has high prevalence, low percentage of vaginal deliveries in breech presentation, anterior cesarean section contribute to rise the cesarean section rate. We focus on the premature rupture membranes to reduce this rate in the coming years.

Recording the number or breech presentation delivery at NIPMN in the 1995-1996 year period, authors noted that: The rate of breech presentation comprises 3.95% (591 cases/14938) of 130 (22%) complete and 380 (64.3%) uncompleted breech presentation. 73.3% of cases required a surgical intervention and 24.3% required a perfusion of oxytocine. A high risk of fatality for the newborn was also noted, especially in the case of premature delivery.

Fetal femur length/biparietal diamater ratio (FL/BPD) assessement with the use of ultrasonic fetal biometry on 875 selected normally gravids from 14 to 30 weeks in a carefully designed cross sectional study have given the results: A good correlation between this ratio and gestational age, with correlation coefficient r = 0.87, was found. The fitted correlation function: y = 0.0454 x + 0.2992, where y = FL/BPD x = gestational age. The mean and centile 5, 10, 50, 90, 95 values of FL/BPD obtained in this study should be considered as a based prediction for normal, and abnormal development of the fetus

A study on all pregnant women had normal delivery in the Institute of Mother and Infant protection and care in 1999 has shown that the rate of uteral revision was high (68%) comparing with this of international and domestic data. The primarily finding showed that there was a relation between the uteral revision and some factors such as history of sponteneous abortion, induced abortion, fetal age, and amniotic rupture time. The indication for uteral revision due to the bleeding was highest (41.1%).

The investigation was conducted at 30 communes health stations of zones II, III in 3 districts – Huu Lung, Cao Loc, Van Lang – Lang Son province. There were many shortenings in essential care and were not at a same level in various communes even in a same district. For a same commune, there were large gaps between various communes. The main causes of shortening were not the lack of resources, in term of quantity, but of management capacity.
