Effects of squalene, algae (Enteromorpha prolifera), laver (Prophyra hai-tanensis) and cauliflower on serum total cholesterol (T-C), high density li-poprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and very low density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C) were separatly observed in Wistar male albino rats fed on a diet containing 0.5% cholesterol,5% lard and 0.5% bile salt. Squalene was supplemented at 5% of the diet, and algae, laver, cauliflower at 10% of the diet. After the rats had been fed on the diet described above for 30 days, serum T-C, HDL-C, LDL-C and VLDL-C levels were determined. The results showed that the rats fed on a diet containing 5% squalene or 10% algae were significantly lower in serum T-C, HDL-C and VLDL-C but higher in serum HDL-C than those of the controls, and the rats fed on a diet containing 10% laver or 10% cauliflower were significantly lower in serum T-C than that of the controls.

Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(01):-
We report herein the effects of varying dietary zinc contents on burns healing in 15% body surface area (BSA) Ⅲ? burned Lop rabbits. 18 adult male rabbits were given a low zinc diet for two weeks, resulting in a decrease of serum zinc concentration which further decreased postburn without restoration. On the contrary, serum was restored rapidly to normal levels in the zinc supplemented groups. Similar changes were found in serum alkaline phosphatase (AKP) activity, and there was a close relationship between serum zinc and serum AKP activity. Burns healing in the high zinc group was markedly faster than that in the low zinc group. These results strongly suggested that zinc might be a factor benefiting burns healing. We concluded that serum AKP activity could be used as a diagnostic criterion of postburn hypozincemia as well as a valid index in the assessment of the effectiveness of supplemented zinc.

Nutrition studies were made on four divers performing a helium-oxygen saturation dive to a simulated depth of 200m in a hyperbaric chamber for about seven days. Daily intake of food was surveyed by regular weighing method and its calories and nutrients were calculated from Chinese food composition table. Fasting blood and 24h urine samples were collected on several occasions before, during and after the dive for estimation of free amino acid, nitrogen and minerals. Vitamin load test was conducted for evaluation of vitamin status. The results showed that during the dive intakes of cereal, meat and oil of divers were decreased, but vegetable, fruit and beverage intakes increased. An average body weight loss of 1.75 kg was found after a 7-day period, but little changes in the body fat. Free amino acid levels of serum and urinary output were reduced, especially the essential amino acids. The urinary excretion of minerals was in an acceptable range, but thiamin decreased markedly and not returned to an acceptable range until 10 days after leaving the hyperbaric chamber.

Journal of Clinical Hepatology 2019;35(4):887-890
Liver cirrhosis is a progressive chronic liver disease due to one or more causes, with diffuse fibrosis in liver tissue, pseudolobules, and regenerative nodules as major histological features. Once liver cirrhosis enters the decompensated stage, the liver and several other organs are injured, which can hardly be recovered or reversed. This article introduces the process of Toll-like receptors in recognizing the changes in intestinal flora and the influence of this process on the development and progression of liver cirrhosis, as well as the protective effect of bile acid against liver cirrhosis by regulating intestinal flora. This article also reviews the advances in delaying liver cirrhosis after the treatment of intestinal dysbacteriosis and points out that the treatment of intestinal dysbacteriosis may become the major direction of liver cirrhosis treatment in future.

Purpose:
The causal relationship between the incidence and prognosis of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and serum testosterone levels in patients is not yet fully understood. This study aims to use the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), a large-scale nationally representative sample, to investigate the relationship between CKD and testosterone.
Materials and Methods:
This study included six NHANES cycles for linear regression analysis, verified by multiple imputation methods. Stratified analysis and subgroup analysis were used to demonstrate the stability of CKD’s effect on testosterone. Furthermore, we used Kaplan-Meier plots and log-rank tests to evaluate differences in survival rates between CKD male patients with low and normal levels of testosterone.
Results:
From a total of 71,163 subjects, the cohort selected 28,663 eligible participants. Results showed that CKD patients had testosterone levels 28.423 ng/mL (24.762, 32.083) lower than non-CKD patients. The results of multiple imputations (β=27.700, 95% confidence interval: 23.427, 31.974) were consistent with those of linear regression analysis, and the numerical match was good. Stratified regression analysis, and subgroup analysis results showed that CKD had a significant impact on testosterone at different dimensions. Kaplan-Meier plots showed significantly reduced survival rates in low testosterone CKD male patients (p<0.0001).
Conclusions
The results of this big data analysis suggest that there may be a two-way risk between low levels of testosterone and CKD. The testosterone levels of CKD patients were significantly lower than those of the non-CKD population, and CKD patients with low testosterone levels had poorer prognoses. These results suggest that correcting testosterone levels in a timely manner can have preventive and therapeutic effects on the progression of CKD.

Objective:To investigate the preventive effect of postoperative pancreatic fistula by pedicled omentum wrapping pancreaticojejunostomy in pancreaticoduodenectomy. Methods:The clinical data of 78 patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy in Songjiang Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University from September 2017 to August 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into the modified pancreaticojejunostomy group (conventional approach group, n=43) and the pedicled omentum wrapping pancreaticojejunostomy group (omentum wrapping group, n=35) according to the surgical mode. Postoperative pancreatic fistula, postoperative abdominal bleeding, delayed gastric emptying and postoperative hospital stay were compared between the two groups. Results:Compared with the conventional approach group, the postoperative pancreatic fistula rate in omentum wrapping group was significantly reduced (2.9% vs 18.6%), and the difference was statistically different ( P=0.030); postoperative abdominal bleeding rate(0 vs 4.7%)and the delayed gastric emptying rate were significantly reduced (8.6% vs 25.6%), but both of them were not statistically different ( all P value>0.05); the length of postoperative hospital stay was significantly reduced [(11.3±2.9) days vs (12.8±3.5)days], and the difference was statistically different ( P=0.045). Conclusions:The pedicled omentum wrapping pancreaticojejunostomy was simple and convenient, which can significantly reduce the rate of postoperative pancreatic fistula. It can shorten the time of the length of hospital stay after surgery.
