In this research, the zuelacmycin-producing strain Streptomyces venezuelaevar. qinlingensis RL-2 was used as original strain, the spore suspension of which was induced by UV, LiCl and the compound treatmeat (UV+LiCl) respectively. The zuelacmycin-high-yield strain UVL-108 was obtained by the treatment that the exposure time under UV irradition was 45 s and the concentration of LiCl was 0.4%. The heredity characters of mutant UVL-108 were stable in succesive six generations. The antibacterial activity and the fermentation titer of mutant UVL-108 were determinded by bidirectioned culture and mycelial linear growth respectively. The results demonstrated the antibaterial activity of mutant UVL-108 was improved by 77%, and the relative toxicity of fermentation to Phyricularia grisea was improved by two times compared with the original strain.

The study provide a theoretical basis for the industrial production of a elastase-high-yield strain which was isolated from the straw,and the selected strain was identified. The screening strategy included casein(skim milk) plate selecting and elastin(beef tendon) re-screening. And then,the morphological,physiological and biochemical characteristics as well as 16S rRNA sequence homology of the selected strain were studied. Finally,the strain LSF-97 which had a excellent decomposing ability to beef tendon was obtained. The results showed that the strain LSF-97 is relative to the Bacillus pumilus with 100 % similar in sequence under the phylogenetic tree,the morphological and physiological and biochemical characteristics are also consistent with pattern of bacteria. So it was identified as Bacillus pumilus.

Objective To improve the diagnosis and treatment of xanthogranulomatous pyelonephri- tis(XGP).Methods The clinical data of 18 cases(5 males and 13 females;mean age,47 years)with XGP were analyzed.Of them,6 had the lesion on the left,and 12 on the right.Before operation,XGP was mis- diagnosed as renal calculus with hydronephrosis in 4 cases,ureteral calculus with severe hydronephrosis in 3 cases,renal tuberculosis in 3 cases and renal carcinoma in 8 cases.Results Of the 18 cases,7 were diag- nosed to have XGP by frozen section during operation and 11 cases had a definite diagnosis by pathological examination after nephrectomy.After a follow-up of 6-124 months,no recurrence was observed in all these 18 cases.Conclusions Preoperative diagnosis of XGP is difficult.This disease is clinically characterized by foam cells in urine smear,low-density value of kidney CT and ineffective antibiotic therapy.Combined a- nalysis of clinical data and improvement of clinical recognition of XGP is the key to avoiding delayed diagno- sis or misdiagnosis of XGP.

To observe the effect of intracarotid administration of endothelin (ET-1) on electrical activity of neurons within rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM) region, 87 spontaneous active units were extracellularly recorded in 35 Sprague-Dawley rats with sino-aortic denervation. The results obtained are as follows. (1) Intracarotid administration of ET-1 (0.3nmol/kg) increased the discharge firing rate from 17.8±1.5 to 20.9±1.4 spikes/s (P<0.01) in 30 out of 36 RVLM neurons, while blood pressure and heart rate had no significant change. (2) BQ-123 (0.67nmol/kg), a selective ETA blocker, completely blocked the facilitatory effects of ET-1 in 11 out of 14 units. (3) In 10 out of 11 units, glibenclamide (3.3 nmol/kg), a blocker of ATP-sensitive potassium channel, had no effect on the action of ET-1. (4) After ablation of area postrema (AP), the facilitatory action of intracarotid administration of ET-1 on 19 units of RVLM was abolished, while in 7 units of sham ablation animals the response of neurons to ET-1 remained unchanged. Taken together, intracarotid-administered ET-1 may act on the ETA receptors in neurons of AP, thereby resulting in the facilitating effect on RVLM neurons through the efferent projection of AP.

Cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) offer a non-selective and receptor-independent mode to promote cellular uptake. Although the non-specificity of CPP-mediated internalization allows this approach applicable to a wide range of tumor types potentially, their universality is a significant obstacle to their clinical utility for targeted delivery of cancer therapeutics and imaging agents. Accordingly, many reports have focused on selective switching of systemically delivered inert CPPs into their active form in lesions (tumor). In this review, our attention is mainly confined to such an enzyme-sensitive domain incorporated delivery system with activatable CPPs (ACPPs), which have displayed the exciting strength in balancing the CPPs' pros and cons, and potential in the treatment and diagnosis of some diseases.
