Objective To investigate effects of neural retina on development of the structure of outer blood retinal barrier in embryogenesis. Methods The retinal neural epithelium (RNE) and pigment epithelium (RPE) layers of 150, 120 and 90 embryonic chicken eyes incubated for 7, 10, and 14 days were peeled off. RNE was used to prepare the culture medium with different conditions (7drcSF3, 10drcSF3, 14drcSF3). RPE cells of 7- and 14-incubated chicken embryos were cultured on laminin-coated transwell filter. The SF3, 7drcSF3, 10drcSF3, 14drcSF3 medium were used respectively in the apical chamber and SF2 was used in basolateral chamber. After the formation of monolayer, the transepithelial electrical resistance of the RPE was detected. After the fixation of RPE cells, the condition of the tight junction among the cells was observed by immunohistochemistry and transmission electron microscopy. Results For the RPE cells of 7- and 14-day incubated embryonic eyes, the difference of TER in various medium of SF3/SF2, 7drcSF3/SF2, 10drcSF3/SF2, 14drcSF3/SF2 was statistically significant (P

IL-17,as a pro-inflammatory cytokine,is one of the early initiation factors of the inflammato-ry response induced by T cells. It can induce and regulate multiple immune responses.Recent studies have re-vealed that myeloid neutrophils, macrophage, mast cell and other innate immune cells all can secrete large a-mount of early responding IL-17 in organs suffering ischemia/hypoxia,and in turn can activate, amplify and re-cruit neutrophils to the reperfusion-damaged tissue to release large amount of free radicals and lysozyme that cause IRI.Researchers have also provided evidence that appropriate administration of anti-IL-17 mono-antibody to neutralize IL-17 during early reperfusion stage would reduce the tissue damage. The purpose of this review is to summarize the research progress of the effects of IL-17 produced by innate immunocyte on organ reperfusion injury.

40 cases of parotidectomy were reviewed.Anterograde approach(group A)and retrograde approach(group B)for facial nerve dissection were used in 1 7 and 23 cases respectively.1 patients in group A and 8 in group B presented symptoms of temporary facial nerve paralysis(P <0.05).The anterograde method is safer and quicker.

Objective To investigate the clinicopathogenical significance of phosphorylation type of c-jun N-terminal kinase(p-JNK)and muhidmg resistance protein P-glycopretein(P-gP),multidrug resistance proteinl(MRP1)and lung resistance protein(LRP)in gastric cancer. Methods The expression of p-JNK,P-gP,MRP1 and LRP was detected in a tissue microarray containing 168 spots of gastric cancer tissue and 27 spots of normal gastric tissue by immunohistochemistry. Results The positive expression rate of p-JNK,P-gp,MRP1 and LRP in gastric cancer wag 45.8%,51.8%,45.8%and 55.4%respectively,which Was significantly higher than that in normal gastric tissue(P<0.05).The p-JNK expression correlated with depth of invasion(P<0.01),histology grade(P<0.05),vessel invasion (P<0.01),lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis(P<0.01).The expression of p-JNK,P-gp and MRP1 in a positive relationship(P<0.05).Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed a significant impact on survival by p-JNK,P-gp and MRPl(P<0.05). Conclusion The p-JNK expression in gastric cancer is correlated with malignant biological behavior and may be involved in the chemotherapeutic resistance by upregulating the expression of P-g[ and MRP1.

OBJECTIVE: To confirm the efficacy and safety of latanoprost in treating glaucoma.METHODS: In a double blind, randomized control clinical trial, we compared the efficacy and adverse drug reactions of once daily topically applied 0.005% latanoprost with those of twice daily 0.5% timolol for 12 weeks in patients with open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.RESULTS: The study included 46 patients(22 pts.randomized to latanoprost treatment, 24 pts.to timolol) , 46 patients remained at the end of the study.Comparing with baseline diurnal intraocular pressure(IOP) , the IOP reduction(mean±standard deviation) achieved with latanoprost(7.86±2.39) mmHg, (31.1%, P<0.001),and timolol(6.24±2.58)mmHg (24.9%,P<0.001),the difference between the two groups(1.62mmHg) being significant(P<0.01). Two patients treated with latanoprost had foreign body sensation. No other ocular and systemic adverse reactions related to the two drugs were found. CONCLUSION: The results of this study demonstrated that 0.005% latanoprost applied once daily is well tolerated and more effective in reducing IOP than 0.5% timolol applied twice daily. Thus, latanoprost has the potential for becoming one of the ideal antiglaucoma drugs.

Objective To evaluate the clinical features of adenocarcinoma of the appendix. Methods The clinical data of 5 patients with adenocarcinoma of appendix hospitalized at our hospital from Sep 2005 to Dec 2010 were analyzed. Results Intraoperatively two cases were highly suspected of malignant tumor of the appendix, diagnosis of adenocarcinoma was confirmed by frozen pathology, and one stage right hemicolectomy was performed. One patient received simple appendectomy, but postoperative pathology showed adenocarcinoma of appendix and secondary right hemicolectomy was carried out two weeks later. One patient was preoperatively misdiagnosed as periappendiceal abscess and as a result fight hemicolectomy was performed because planned appendectomy was technically impossible. The postoperative pathology revealed adenocarcinoma of the appendix. In the last patient preoperative diagnosis was hypogastric space-occupying lesion with extensive intraabdominal metastasis.During exploration adenocarcinoma of the appendix with extensive metastasis was confirmed.Right hemicolectomy and carcinectomy was performed.Postoperatively all the 5 patients underwent regular chemotherapy. We followed them for 2 to 3 years and only the patient with intraabdominal metastasis at first laparotomy suffered from extensive recurrence 2 years after surgery. Conclusions The adenocarcinoma of appendix can be easily misdiagnosed as other diseases.Radiography, careful exploration during operation and frozen pathology help establish final diagnosis.Right hemicolectomy and postoperative chemotherapy are required in order to reduce tumor recurrence and prolong patients' survival.

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of autologous dendritic cells and cytokine-induced killer cells (DC/CIK) combined with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) in the treatment of moderate and advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods Sixty patients with moderste and advanced HCC were randomly divided into two groups: the experimental group (n = 32), in which the treatment of DC/CIK combined with TACE was used, and the control group (n=28), in which TACE treatment was used only. The parameters of tumor size , serum alpha-fetoprotein , survival rate , the median survival time and quality of life , were detected in patients of the two groups before and after corresponding therapy . Results ( 1 ) After receiving corresponding treatments, the efficient rates of DC/CIK combined with TACE and TACE only were 87.50% and 64.29%, respectively, with significant difference;(2) The level of serum AFP decreased in the two groups after corresponding treatment, with no significant difference; (3) The 6-month survival rate was 96.88%and 92.85%, and the 1-year survival rate was 84.38%and 64.29%, the 2-year survival rate was 65.63%and 42.86%in the experimental group and in the control group, respectively. And the median survival time was 21 months and 17 months in the experimental group and the control group, respectively, with no significant difference; (4) The quality of life was improved significantly in the DC/CIK combined with TACE group after treatment. Conclusions Administration of DC and CIK combined with TACE can prolong the survival time, increase the survival rate and especially improve the life quality of HCC patients. It is a promising approach for the treatment of patients with moderate and advanced HCC.
