3.Relationship between the physical and chemical properties of calcium phosphate ceramics and the host tissue
International Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2001;24(2):81-85
Calcium phosphate ceramics, such as tricalcium phosphate (TCP) and hydroxyapatite (HA) are commonly used as bone substitutes. These materials have different physical and chemical properties and, therefore, display different interactions with the host tissue. Factors such as porosity, osteoconductivity, and biocompatibility seem to become increasingly important in the development of new artificial bone replacement materials. This article focuses on the relationship between the physical and chemical properties of calcium phosphate ceramics and the host tissue.
4.The effect of telmisartan on the plasma brain natriuretic peptide in patients with permanent cardiac pacing
Chinese Journal of Postgraduates of Medicine 2014;37(13):8-10
Objective To investigate the effect of telmisartan on the plasma brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) in patients with permanent cardiac pacing. Methods According to the method of simple random numbers,106 patients with permanent cardiac pacing were randomly divided into study group and control group, with 53 cases in each group. All patients received implanted operation of permanent pacemaker. The study group was given telmisartan tablets,1 time a day,1 tablet each time, until the end of follow-up.The control group was given valsartan. The plasma BNP was measured by the immunofluorescent assay before administration and at the end of follow-up.In addition, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and cardiac index (CI) was determined by echocardiography. Results The plasma BNP in two groups was lower than 100 ng/L before administration. At the end of follow-up,the plasma BNP changed slightly in study group, but increased in control group, and the plasma BNP in control group was higher than that in study group [(105.67 ± 15.64) ng/L vs.(73.23 ± 10.56) ng/L],and there was significant difference (P < 0.05).LVEF and CI was stable within the normal range before administration and at the end of follow-up in study group [(58 ± 4)% vs.(59 ± 5)%,(3.58 ± 0.32) L/(min· m2) vs.(3.56 ± 0.26) L/(min· m2)].LVEF and CI at the end of follow-up in control group was decreased compared with that before administration[(49 ± 3)% vs.(56 ± 3)%,(2.97 ± 0.26) L/(min· m2) vs.(3.62 ± 0.29) L/(min· m2)],which was lower than that in study group[(49 ± 3)% vs.(59 ±5)%,(2.97 ±0.26) L/(min·m2) vs.(3.56 ±0.26) L/(min·m2)],and there was significant difference(P < 0.05).Conclusions Telmisartan can delay the increase of the plasma BNP in patients with permanent cardiac pacing, delay the onset of symptoms of heart failure, and improve the quality of life.So early administration of telmisartan is recommended for the patients with permanent cardiac pacing.
5.Efficacy analysis of diacerein in combination with methotrexate and leflunomide in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis in elderly patients
Chinese Journal of Geriatrics 2014;33(7):775-778
Objective To analyze the clinical efficacy of diacerein plus methotrexate and leflunomide in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis in elderly patients. Methods Eighty elderly patients with rheumatoid arthritis seeking treatment at our hospital from September 2010 to December 2012 were divided into the treatment group (n =40) and the control group (n =40).Patients with osteoarthritis were excluded from enrollment. The treatment group was given diacerein,in addition to methotrexate and leflunomide, whereas the control group received methotrexate and leflunomide. Results Compared with the control group, the treatment group showed a lower swollen joint count [(0.93±0.21) vs.(3.43±0.69),t=10.728,P=0.013],a lower tender joint count [(1.15±0.46)vs.(3.6110.83),t=11.443,P=0.008],shorter morning stiffness (1.6±2.2 min vs.13.5±4.2min,t=11.164,P=0.011),and greater hand grip strength [7.97±1.53) kPa vs.(5.68±2.07)kPa,t=10.562,P=0.014].When measured by health assessment questionnaire (HAQ),visual analogue scale (VAS) and DAS28 scores, the treatment group also performed better than the control group.Additionally, the treatment group displayed a more favorable laboratory profile, which included the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) (9.51±4.32 mm/h vs.26.47±6.32 mm/h,t=9.892,P=0.028),C-reactive protein (CRP) [(2.34±0.57) mg/L vs.(8.13±2.14) mg/L,t=9.427,P=0.031],and rheumatoid factors (RF) [(231.3±45.5) kU/L vs.(283.3±68.4) kU/L,t=10.023,P=0.018].Furthermore,the adverse reaction rate was significantly lower in the treatment group than in the control group (15.0% vs.37.5%,x2 =5.230,P=0.020).Conclusions Diacerein in combination with methotrexate and leflunomide has shown clearly positive outcomes in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis in elderly patients and should be recommended in clinical treatment.
6.Composition, function in PI3K/Akt and PTEN, and the relationship with developing brain after hypoxiaischemia
International Journal of Pediatrics 2012;39(1):20-22
P13K/Akt signaling pathway is an classic anti-apoptotic,urge-survival signal transduction pathway. It plays important regulation and control roles in neurons apoptosis.PTEN ( phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10) is a highly conservative tumor suppressor gene with a dual-specificity phosphatase activity.PTEN protein can specifically dephosphorylats the 3 position of phosphoinositides, antagonize the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway,as negativity regulation and control roles to cell survival and growth. This review summarizes the progresses of the composition, function in PI3 K/Akt and PTEN,and the relationship with developing brain after hypoxia-ischemia.
7.Progress of high mobility group box 1 protein and sepsis
International Journal of Pediatrics 2012;39(2):170-173
High mobility groupbox 1 (HMGB1),a highly conserved protein previously known as a DNA-binding protein involved in maintenance of nucleosome structure and regulation of gene transcription, was recently found to act as a potent proinflammatory cytokine during infection responses.Levels of HMGB1 increase in serum and tissues during infection, especially in sepsis.A growing number of studies have demonstrated that HMGB1 is a cytokine that can mediate inflammation and is a potential therapeutic target in experimental models of sepsis. In this article,we will describe the biological function of HMGB 1 and HMGB 1 inhibitors for a potential role of inflammatory disease treatment.
8.P-glycoprotein expression in lung cancer and progress in cisplatin resistance
Cancer Research and Clinic 2011;23(8):565-567
Cisplatin is widely used in lung cancer chemotherapy, but drug resistance seriously affects its efficacy. The mechanism of cisplatin resistance is not yet clear. Now it is widely recognized that P-glycoprotein (P-glycoprotein, P-gp) expression is associated with cisplatin resistance. Inhibition of P-gp expression can overcome cisplatin resistance and improve the treatment efficacy.
