Journal of Third Military Medical University 2001;23(4):481-483
Objective To investigate the validity of the Chinese version of the Symptom Check-List-90 (the SCL-90) in Chinese population. Methods A total of 624 normal person and 268 out patients were examined with the SCL-90. Results (1)The internal consistency of the original subscales was found to be good and Cronbach's coefficient alpha ranged from 0.78 to 0.90; (2)Discrimination function analysis based on the 9 original subscales showed that the power of the SCL-90 in discriminating the patients and the community was good with a corrective rate of 80.6%; (3)Factor analysis on the items of the questionnaire yielded a very strong un-rotated first factor which could represent other factors; (4)High inter-correlations were found between the 9 original subscales of the SCL-90 with a correlation coefficient ranging from 0.39 to 0.79. Conclusion (1) The SCL-90 is acceptable as a research setting and psychiatric screening inventory; (2) The SCL-90 does not have potential as an inventory to distinguish different diagnostic groups; (3) The SCL-90 is not a multidimensional inventory.

Objective To explore the relationship between cognition and serum cytokines in middle school students with depressive symptoms. Methods The serum levels of interleukin-2 (IL-2), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-8 (IL-8), and tumor necrosis factor-? (TNF-?) were measured in 49 middle school students with depressive symptoms and 32 normal controls by adopting scales and radioimmunology methods. Results ①The serum levels of IL-2, IL-6, and TNF-? in middle school students with depressive symptoms were significantly lower than those in the controls. ② Serum levels of IL-2, IL-6, and TNF-? in depressive subjects were negatively correlated with the total scores of Beck, Zung and Automatic Thoughts Questionnaire (ATQ), but serum IL-8 levels were positively and significantly correlated with total Beck, Zung and ATQ scores. ③ Serum levels of IL-2, IL-6, and TNF-? were correlated negatively with Beck and ATQ factors. Conclusion Depressive symptoms in middle school students are accompanied by signs of immunosuppression. The immunological mechanisms may be different from the clinical major depression.

Objective:To analyze the value of fine needle aspiration cytology and CT perfusion imaging in differential diagnosis of benign and malignant salivary gland tumors. Methods: Perfusion CT and fine needle aspiration cytology were performed in 36 patients of salivary gland tumors(26 cases in parotid gland, 8 cases in submandibular, 1 case in sublingual gland and 1 case in pars palatalis) and perfusion parameters, including: blood flow(BF), blood volume(BV), mean transit time(MTT), permeability surface(PS). Pathological diagnosis was performed on all salivary gland tumors. Results: 13 cases of 36 patients eventually were diagnosed as malignant salivary gland tumors. The sensitivity, specificity and accordance rate for malignancy of fine needle aspiration cytology were 84.6%(11/13), 95.7%(22/23) and 91.7%(33/36), respectively. The values of BF, BV and PS of the malignant tumors were higher than those of benign tumors significantly(P<0.05). However, the MTT values showed no significant difference between benign and malignant tumors(P>0.05).The sensitivity, specificity, and accordance rate for malignancy of CT perfusion were 92.3%(12/13), 86.9%(20/23) and 88.9%(32/36), respectively. The negative cases of fine needle aspiration cytology can be correctly identified as malignant by CT perfusion imaging. Conclusion: CT perfusion imaging can provide salivary gland tumors with information of microcirculation perfusion. It contributes to the identification of benign and malignant tumors. Paralled with fine needle aspiration cytology can greatly improve the accuracy of salivary gland tumors.

Apogossypolone (ApoG2), a novel derivative of gossypol, has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of antiapoptotic Bcl-2 family proteins and to have antitumor activity in multiple types of cancer cells. Recent reports suggest that gossypol stimulates the generation of cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) in leukemia and colorectal carcinoma cells; however, gossypol-mediated cell death in leukemia cells was reported to be ROS-independent. This study was conducted to clarify the effect of ApoG2-induced ROS on mitochondria and cell viability, and to further evaluate its utility as a treatment for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). We tested the photocytotoxicity of ApoG2 to the poorly differentiated NPC cell line CNE-2 using the ROS-generating TL/10 illumination system. The rapid ApoG2-induced cell death was partially reversed by the antioxidant N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC), but the ApoG2-induced reduction of mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) was not reversed by NAC. In the presence of TL/10 illumination, ApoG2 generated massive amounts of singlet oxygen and was more effective in inhibiting cell growth than in the absence of illumination. We also determined the influence of light on the anti-proliferative activity of ApoG2 using a CNE-2-xenograft mouse model. ApoG2 under TL/10 illumination healed tumor wounds and suppressed tumor growth more effectively than ApoG2 treatment alone. These results indicate that the ApoG2-induced CNE-2 cell death is partly ROS-dependent. ApoG2 may be used with photodynamic therapy (PDT) to treat NPC.
