[Objective] To observe the therapeutic effect of spleen-invigorating and lung-nourishing therapy and its influence on nutritive index and quality of life (QOL) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at stationary phase. [ Methods ] Ninety cases of COPD were randomized into three groups. Group A was given routine symptomatic treatment; groups B and C were given oral use of Jianpi yifei Granules and routine symptomatic treatment and group C was additionally treated with garlic-partition moxibustion and acupoint injection of Shenmai Injection on bilateral Zusanli (ST 36) point alternatively. The treatment lasted 2 months. [Results] The effective rate was 93.33% in group C, 86.67% in group B and 56.67% in group A (P 0.05) compared with those before treatment. Scores of activity of daily life (ADL) , depression and anxiety and the total score of QOL were obviously decreased in groups B and C (P

Some problems were present with the universities combination, such as the relative scarcity of medical students and some students'lower enthusiasm for medicine. The university should establish policies to improve the quality of medical students, such as enlarging self-determination right to recruit medical students, strengthening the specialty thought of students. And further reformation and self-enhancement of medical college were more important for attracting excellent students.

Toutongling Capsule is a Chinese herbal preparation developing from an ancient formula processed by modern technology. Previous clinical studies have shown that Toutongling Capsule exerts a good effect on vascular headache, tonic headache and traumatic headache. To further explore its pharmacological mechanism, the effect of Toutongling Capsule on cerebral vessels and blood viscosity in experimental dogs was observed. The results showed that Toutongling Capsule can decrease cerebral vascular resistance obviously and increase cerebral blood flow, with a good dose-effect relationship. As compared with Yangjiao Granule, Toutongling Capsule possesses a similar effect on blood viscosity but stronger effect on dilatation of cerebral vessels and increase of cerebral blood flow. Both Toutongling Capsule and Yangjiao Granule have no effect on blood pressure and ECG.

Objective: To observe the clinical effect in the treatment of toothache by puncturing Hegu(LI 4). Methods: Two hundred and seventy-eight cases of the patients were randomly divided into the treatment group (139 cases) and the control group (139 cases). The treatment group was treated by puncturing Hegu (LI 4) with electric stimulation and the control group, by puncturing Chenshan (BL 57) with electric stimulation, for 3 days as one course of the treatment,to grade pain and observe the anesthetic effect respectively. Results: There was no significant difference in the remarkable effective rate between the two groups before withdrawal of the needle in the treatment for one day (P>0.05). In the other times, the remarkable effective rate was obviously higher in the treatment group than in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion:Acupuncture on Hegu (LI 4) is effective in treating toothache.

Aim To study the effect of Macrophage colony-stimulating factor(M-CSF) on MMP-9 in RAW 264.7 cell and explore the relationship between atherosclerosis caused by M-CSF and the activity of MMP-9. Methods Gelatin zymography analysis was used to investigate the effect of M-CSF and PD98059 on the activity of MMP-9 in cultured RAW 264.7 cell.Western blot was used to study the effect of M-CSF and PD98059 on the express of p-ERK1/2 in cultured RAW 264.7 cell. Results The enzyme activity of MMP-9 was significantly increased after 24-hour M-CSF treatment.Meanwhile, M-CSF upregulated the expression of p-ERK1/2. Pre-treatment with PD98059 blocked partly the increased expression of p-ERK1/2 and the activity of MMP-9 induced by M-CSF. Conclusion M-CSF can induce the secretion of MMP9 in RAW 264.7 cell, which may be mediated by the phosphorylation of ERK1/2.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2015;35(2):276-280
OBJECTIVETo study the effects of a Gold Belt (GB, a traditional Chinese herbal medicine) combined with methyl-prednisolone (MP) on the motor function and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression in rats with contusive spinal cord injury (SCI).
METHODSThirty adult female SD rats were randomly divided into 5 equal groups, namely the sham-operated group, SCI group, SCI with MP treatment group (MP group, with intramuscular injection of 50 mg/kg MP within 8 hours after SCI and then dosage reduced 10 mg/kg daily), SCI with GB treatment group (GB group, with intragastric gavage of GB 50 mg/kg once daily for 7 days), and combined GB and MP treatment group. The Basso, Beattie and Bresnahan (BBB) locomotor scale was used to evaluate the hindlimb motor function of the rats on days 1, 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 after the injury. After the last evaluation the rats were sacrificed for immunohistochemistry to observe the localization of BDNF in the ventral and dorsal horn of spinal cord.
RESULTSBDNF were distributed mainly in neurons in the spinal cord grey matter ventral horn and dorsal horn of the rats. The number of BDNF-positive neurons and BBB scores in the combined treatment group were significantly higher than those in the other 4 groups (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONGB combined with MP produces better therapeutic effects for treating SCI than GB or MP used alone, and such effects are probably related with enhanced BDNF expression in the spinal cord.
